| LONDON (AFP) - More than 1,600 people called Jones were expected to gather in an attempt to claim the world record for the biggest get-together of people with the same name. The current record is held by the Swedish Norbergs, who managed to pack 583 of their namesakes into one place. Flamboyant Jamaican-born singer Grace Jones will be among famous bearers of the Welsh name to entertain the expected hordes, due to make the record attempt in the capital Cardiff Friday evening. Guinness World Record officials are due to attend to validate the attempt. To qualify all participants, expected to descend on Cardiff from around Wales and beyond, must provide proof of identity. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in a record-breaking attempt," said Meirion Davies of Welsh TV channel S4C, which will record the event. After the event, anyone calling a taxi back to home or hotel was also likely to be asked for their first name too. Jones is the most common Welsh surname and means son of John. |
