Because you know there are some great tales that are bound to happen that you'll just want to share.

like the fact that fed ex left most of the copies destined for my area in Memphis last night, therefore making me wait ANOTHER day to get it. I may be arrested tomorrow if I don't get this game in my hands.
The only good story I have is from when I was playing online execution 4 on 4 and I flanked the other team and came up behind them, Chainsawed two and shot the third till he fell and curb stomped him, and just as I was about to orgasm from taking out the whole team by my lonesome the last remaining guy on their team took us all out. This game is like crack, SO ADDICTIVE.

Yep......there you go......the official GOW story.
I got lucky, after waiting several hours for a shipment that was supposed to arrive a lot earlier than it did I found out they had 4 copies. I was #4 in line. Sometimes the universe aligns and I catch a break. Couldn't happen of the fucking lotto though, could it?? Nope, I catch a break on a $60 video game. Story of my life. LOL But at least I get to chainsaw melee people.

I like the idea of this thread.

I will relay the story I told in the hype thread.

Map: mansion

I was running around trying to figure out this fantastic map. I had a boomshot and geniusly used both (only 2!?) rockets and just totally missed who i was aiming for. So, I was down to a shotgun and a pistol.

I was upstairs and grabbed a sniper...and did nothing with it, but thanks to the wonderful 5.1 sound, I heard something going on in the back left staircase. I saw my teammate in an open area shoot out with an opposing locust. He was clearly in trouble and made a b-line for the exit into the mansion backyard. He was followed, and I could hear in my headset "help help help...i dont know where i am though".

I equipped the shotty and ran down the stairs and rolled through the backyard doorway and just decimated the locust with a point blank shotgun blast (which have wonderfully violent results!!!) right as he was about to put a finishing curbstomp on my opponent.

Map: That goddamn train level

So, me an my COGs are running towards the train. This is only my 5th try playing multi and my second on the goddamn train level. I'm wandering around, looking for more weapons, and what do I find? The Tech Bow. Woo. The shooter of explosive Rambo arrows. So I draw the weapon and look for a Locust. Nothing, but I do see some gunfire in the distance. I fire a shot. Nothing. I load up another round which takes about 5 seconds to draw the bow full strength. And 3 locusts run up to the side, toward a buddy. *TWHICK* Arrow, right in his fucking neck. BOOOOM! No more locust.

It sadly ends with me getting chainsawed by HIS buddy, but at that point, I didn't care.

Gears of War is shit hot.

Map: Army base (can't think of official name, but it has the helicopter)

One of my personal favs. isn't even about me really. In the midst of a multiplayer match, I was taken out by a COG. I lay on the ground bleeding out and he comes over to curb stomp me and finish me off. Right as his foot is in the air, one of my team members comes out from behind a box with a sniper rifle, and without aiming, shoots the guy in the face. His head explodes and the match ends. My ear drums are then blown out by everyone in the game (including me) letting out a "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!"

Great times and I hope to have many more soon.

My "story" so far has been that I am not picking up this game very easily. Perhaps my refusal to play on the "casual" setting is resulting in my repeated deaths. I died four or five times in the first area in which you face several locusts (the training area!) before I had to turn in for the night.

I applaud those of you who adjusted right off the bat, but right now I'm marvelling at the beauty of the graphics and the smoothness of the animation while simultaneously getting shot in the face for failing to use cover properly.

how much have you really played? for the first hour and a half or so i wasnt sure about the game until the control scheme really clicked. i used to play ut and cs a lot and had my mouse sens pretty low, but i realized i need it on medium at least for this game... once i changed that and got used to the cover controls, i started doing a lot better on hardcore singleplayer and also realized how amazing the game can be.

there are some tough fights on hardcore, and im only on act 3 so far. the lame friendly ai doesnt help, which for some reason seems to be much less intelligent than the enemy ai.

I have no problem with the game, it's fantastic. I just suck at it . . . thus far. I've played for about an hour.

Your comments on the mouse senstivity intrigue me....

I don't understand why everybody is diving straight into Hardcore, which is supposed to be even more difficult than Halo's "Heroic" setting. Maybe I'm just a pussy, but I like figuring out how the game works before I start getting my ass kicked.
My story - I died about 20 times in the opening few minutes of the game trying to get the chainsaw to work on the gun you start with. The gun that's not equipped with a chainsaw.

It's because the achievements for Casual unlock if you beat them on hardcore. It's really all about e-penis.

That's why I'm doing it at least.
I'm also doing it for Malli's e-penis.
Yeah, but considering how good this game is (and the ability to play co-op online), I know I'll play through the campaign at least twice. Why not have fun during your first runthrough, then try for the Hardcore achievements after you've figured out the best weapons and tactics? It just seems weirdly masochistic to me.
I know once I beat the game one time I'm more likely to stay on multiplayer(I'm weird like that.) With that said I'd still like to get all the achievements that I can and playing hardcore will unlock both. Weird answer I know but that's why I jumped into hardcore.
Okay, things are starting to click now. I really, really, really had a difficult time adjusting to the "seek out cover" mentality. Too much Far Cry Multiplayer, I'd guess.

WHat a phenomenal game. I might try my hand at multi-player pretty soon. Some of the interior areas appear photorealistic, which I didn't think was going to be possible this gen.

another great moment tonight.

MAP: Gridlock

I had just emptied the boomshot (grenade/rocket launcher) and was running from two locusts. I picked up the grenades lying in the middle of the map.

Got into a little bit of a firefigh with one locust, while the other one could be seen rounding the car pile. I decided to grenade tag one guy, and just hope to get one kill before I die...but as I roll away from the locust explosion I see the other locust come running in to chase me and rolls right into the blast radius of the grenade. DOUBLE KILL.
My favorite moment is online, at the military base. Teammates were trading fire with a locust behind a container/object. I run around and sneak up behind him and proceed to feed him my grenade and watch him blow up. That and the first time I got to use the Hammer of Dawn on someone online.

Through sheer random luck, I managed to sneak up on a guy and tag him with a frag grenade. Right before I tagged him, he saw me and tried to run away, but I still tagged him. He didn't realize it and ran up next to his buddy and detonated, thereby taking out his buddy and giving me the round.

I'm not getting particularly better at multi-player. I don't like running and trying to grab the sniper/torque bow/etc. and then use that to dominate. Is there a way, when setting up matches, to limit players to their default weapons?

No, but the game is set up to where you can easily take out someone who has a sniper rifle. It's all about the flank.
Or, if you're Storn, it's all about the boot.

Single Player, Act4. Been clearing out the courtyard areas (transition from dark Act3 to light Act4, wow), walk into a new one and hear the "you gonna get fucked" music tones, don't see any bad guys though. Then I get the "Y" prompt, hit the button, and my view zooms up to a guy on top of one of the buildings who just fired off a bow shot. I hear the "thunk", see the thing sticking out of my chest, and have just enough time to mutter "fuck" before I blow up.
Similar to another story above, I was playing multiplayer for the first time last night, and was on the train station map. One of my teammates had downed a Locust on the other side of the tracks. I drew my bow and aimed, and another Locust ran up to the downed one to revive him. I fired, stuck the second locust in the thigh with the arrow, and DOUBLE KILL!!
a guy in one of my games got stuck with a grenade last night and then proceeded to jump right at one of his teammates.

if stranded on Tyro station and low on ammo, just run laps, worked for a cog last night and the match ended in a draw.

think I may have played with some Chewers last night and had a good time.

anyone else instantly exit the game the minute you hear mindless shittalking from the other players?

So, I've been playing with a squad for a while when we enter the Venice Waterways map level. For one reason or another, a dragged out firefight occurs with the three opposing team members, and my one remaining team member with me, fighting on opposite sides of the bridge. My teammate decides to try a long, long flanking maneuver, while I jump around and fire like crazy in an attempt to keep their attention. It takes him a good fifteen seconds or so to get around them, and in the meantime I have unfortunately met my untimely demise. Without killing ANY of them.

He has the torque bow, however, and using that to his advantage he manages to explode the guy who is coming to stomp me (blind luck, he later told me he missed the guy he was aiming at). I sit there, quivering on the ground, unable to really see what's going on and waiting to die. Amidst the furious gunfire I finally revive and begin to walk down the bridge, only to find my teammate being executed with a vicious head stomp.

However, the sole surviving enemy must have thought the game was over, because he stood there like an idiot while I descended upon him with glorious wrath and chainsawed him into little bits.

Truly epic.

_________

Some people are astoundingly good. I watched from the 2nd floor of the mansion while a teammate melee tagged two enemies in about five seconds and proceeded to avoid them until they blew up. He had skillz.
I grabbed the torque bow in the Venice level, and hid near two teammates on the right side of the level. I attempted to torque bow an enemy, but screwed up and shot the wall in front of me. I managed to roll backwards out of the way, but my two teammates weren't that lucky and died in the ensuing blast. It was then one on three, and I died shortly thereafter.

They were not happy with me.
with the exception of the above story...i think the canals are the best level to showcase the Torque bow. always the first thing I run for on that level.
