Immortal Iron Fist!

Iron Fist needs his own thread. He is getting a new book in November, written by Brubaker and Fraction, with art by David Aja.

Newsarama has an interview from Wizard World Chicago, wherein Brubaker and Fraction get me really excited to read the book.

THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST #1

Written by ED BRUBAKER AND MATT FRACTION
Pencils and Cover by DAVID AJA
Many years ago, in the mystical city of Kun’ Lun, young Danny Rand stared at a suit behind glass -- the garb of “the Immortal Iron Fist” -- and knew that he was destined to wear it. But where did this costume come from? Why did it wait for Danny all those years like a shadow of his future?
The answer to those questions will stun both him and his readers, as Danny Rand leaps from the pages of his breakout hit in DAREDEVIL to his own series - a history-spanning kung-fu epic that will shatter every perception of what it means to be the Immortal Iron Fist! Brought to you by top-ten writer Ed Brubaker and breakout talent Matt Fraction (Punisher War Journal), with action-packed art by David Aja (Daredevil, Giant-Size Wolverine).

Judging from my level of excitement, it may be hard to believe that I have not actually read anything with Iron Fist in it. The essential Iron Fist is my next comic purchase and I am totally going to have a Marvel Legends Iron Fist on my desk some time, but it was not until this recent news that I got really excited about Iron Fist.

That is some awkward art. Why does he look like Bunny the tapdancer?

That's his new costume? Looks slightly better than the original but it's still a piece of crap.

Sigh.

That is not Danny Rand, but a precursor.

Who in the hell is bunny the tapdancer?

Since when did Iron Fist start packing heat?

That's what I was wondering. That pic of him looks as silly as the time in the 90's when Johnny Blaze was given a trenchcoat and a shotgun.

But it shot HELLFIRE!

I've never read this comic but I'll check it out. Makes you wonder if this could be a precursor to the proposed film treatment with Ray Park.

I can't believe I once thought highly of this place.

Goodbye.

Ha.

And can anyone fill me in on the comic(s) where they explained why he became Daredevil for awhile?

Just ignore the Danny Rand as Daredevil--that's one of those missteps like 50's commie hunter Captain America or the short-lived marriage between Superman and Jimmy Olsen.

But the new Iron Fist is pretty good. It plugs into the pre-Luke Cage vibe that Iron Fist had when he first appeared. It's a story that is more connected to the world of martial arts film than to the other titles in Marvel's stable. I like the idea of the backstory of other Iron Fists--from what I've seen, they are diverse and interesting enough not to be Tales of the Green Lanterns (this one is red, this one is a girl, this one is short...). And I like Aja's art too--at its best it seems to evoke Steranko or Bernie Wrightson. I'm going to wait for a couple more issues before I get really excited, but I think that the first issue set the bar pretty high.

A nice start for issue #1, looking forward to how the various Iron Fist threads come together.

I picked up issues 2, 3, and 4 in the used comic bin at Half-Price Books near my house. Gotta say I kinda enjoyed them. Enough so that I'll pick up the trade. Curious to see where it goes.

The art's great, and it has some neat ideas but it was too much of a "Why am I reading this?" kind of thing since I didn't really give a shit about any of the characters, and I kind of like Iron Fist.
EDIT: Fucking christ. The voices in my head are typing as Rumteldat again. Somebody alert Greg David so he can give me a stern talking to. - Smeagol

Douglas02, I highly recommend Essential Iron Fist. Also you should pick up the 2 Luke Cage Hero for Hire Essentials as well. While they both were cool individually their teaming up in Power Man and Iron Fist was fantastic. That is if Marvel ever releases Power Man And Iron Fist.

I thought the first arc was a terrific neo-pulp story. How I'll feel about future stories without Orson, I'm not sure... but then, I didn't expect to like this book in the first place.

it has been a pretty good book so far, but I think it was meant to be a mini that got made longer...it will suck from now on.
