Wal-Mart: We're not afraid to say Merry Christmas

Wal-Mart is pretty untouchable anyways but I'm glad someone has the balls to say Merry Christmas nowadays. Friggin' people.

Is it just me, or does that seem like a threat?

Goddammit, it's still November!
I almost expected a "Don't make me turn this car around!" line in that article.

Totally agree. It's way too early (as always) to start with the Xmas mumbo jumbo. Don't say Merry Christmas to me, either!
Are they going to sell Hannukah items in The Christmas Shop?

You "Merry Christmas" people are such pussies.

The local Target had their Christmas shit out a week before Halloween.

This "Merry Christmas" vs. "Happy Holidays" furor is so stupid.
Christ, do we really have to relive this totally fabricated "War on Christmas"? And if so, do we have to do it at a time when I still have Halloween candy lying around?
These days, Xmas season starts right after Halloween. I guess the "Seasonal Items" aisle at your local supermarket doesn't have enough Thanksgiving junk to sell.
It's about time someone took a stand for that small group of Americans called "Christians." Bout fucking time.
Don't you know what an opressed majority is, Patrick? Someone needs to help those poor Christmas celebrators out, otherwise there will be no Santa this year!
"Santa, Satan. Same letters, same guy! It all makes sense now!"
What's absurd was the censorship of the word Christmas in the first place.
What's absurd about it?
Political correctness is absurd. It was done to not offend other religions (i.e. Muslims).

I'm a militant Atheist and have no problem with someone saying "Merry Christmas". It's a national holiday, so get over it.
And where was this censorship happening, exactly? I saw giant Christmas signs everywhere last year, including Wal Mart. Pundits keep screaming about this, people keep acting offended about it, but honestly, where the fuck were people getting their Christmas lights yanked off their house or the local nativity play getting canceled because of the "War on Christmas."

It doesn't accomplish anything, and it's pretty strange to tell your employees not to utter such a common phrase. Plus it's very hypocritical to not mention the name of the holiday they're making all that money from.

Seriously, you Christmas people are so stupid.
They do it because they're afraid of alienating any possible customers. Whether that's good business or not, I dunno, I'm not in marketing, but it's up to them.

This issue is not a big deal for me and I would guess most of the population, so I didn't go around all the local Walmarts in the area to check this out. But if you read the article, Walmart acknowledges they had some sort of policy on this, so I'll take their word ( I mean, the article says it's no OK for their employees to say 'Merry Christmas' ... kinda implies that wasn't ok before no?)

I don't know people who build their houses inside of Walmart, so I can't comment on this.

No what's stupid is people being overly sensitive about this at their workplaces, they should feel free to wish happy whatever to anybody. If you get offended by a Happy Hannuka or somethign that doesn't match your belief, you are the one that is stupid and overly sensitive.
No, what's stupid is being so unaware of the rest of the world around you that you can't even be bothered to be polite enough to recognize that there are other groups celebrating during this period.

The vast majority of people don't have a problem with "Merry Christmas". A very vocal minority have a problem with "Happy Holidays" however.
So the morons who are offended by Halloween should make Walmart ban anybody or any sign saying "Happy Halloween"?

If there are multiple holidays celebrated around that time, mention them all, it's absurd to try to not mention the biggest one just so you don't offend other people. You shouldn't feel offended by the existence of other religions around you.

What are you, new? It's not a matter of me getting offended, it's a matter of me feeling a bit prickish wishing Merry Christmas to someone who doesn't celebrate it when I could have just as easly said "Happy Holidays". It's like choosing to be an ass.
Merry fucking Christmas.
Forget about Christmas for a minute.

I think we here at Creature Corner will spearhead a campaign next year against this "Happy Halloween" bullshit. It's not supposed to be happy. Let's take it back for the witches, people.
I get the Happy Halloween stuff all the times at stores, and I know some people who think this is the holiday of the DEVIL! If they get offended by somebody saying Happy Halloween, it's their problem, not the person who is trying to be nice.

If I say happy birthday to a Jehovah's Witness, they should just ignore it, not get offended and expect me to conjure up a more generic term or keep tabs on what their religious background is.
It's not about being offended, it's about being polite. When you say happy holidays, you include everyone, so you don't have to worry about their affiliations to begin with!
You really don't get it, do you? It wasn't about Wal-Mart being "banned" from saying Merry Christmas. They chose to go with the more respectful "Happy Holidays" and the Christmas crowd freaked the fuck out.

***edit***

In response to ElCapitanAmerica, obviously.

Banks are closed for Christmas. That's the holiday. Christmas.

Haha! Sounds like something Rumsfeld would say. Sorry, would have said. Life is good.

Anyway, all I want to know is where's my "Happy Thanksgiving"?
