Lionsgate in the United States and Maple Pictures in Canada have announced the upcoming release of Crank for 9th January 2007. Crank stars Jason Statham and Amy Smart, and tells the tale of an assassin injected with an adrenaline inhibited poison. The DVD will feature a 'Crank’d Out Mode' offering a running commentary, behind-the-scenes footage, making-of insights, interviews and more - all whilst watching the film. Audio tracks will support Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1, with subtitles in English and Spanish. Maple also mentioned a family-friendly audio track lacking those all important expletives. Two editions will be available (widescreen/full screen), the widescreen covers from both distributors are provided below.

It sounds like that "family friendly" audio track is just on the Canadian R1 disc. I was sort of hoping they'd use the cover with the film's title spelled out in a vein but this cover seems to continue the trend to make DVD covers seem as action-oriented as possible. At least this time it's not as absurd as the covers for HISTORY OF VIOLENCE or THE MATADOR.

My dream cover:

Maybe the Criterion Edition will get this cover.

God I loved this movie. I mean, as far as action films go this year, the only ones I've just completely loved have been this and B13.

The number of items he uses to keep his adrenaline up is hilarious.

That heart poster would have been cool as well.

This was brought up on DVDactive and it's a fair point, it may have turned a few critics off but I know it got enough good notices to find a better quote for the cover than the one from "Access Hollywood."

You generally have to have the star on the cover for marketing purposes. At least it's a good shot and not some crappy photoshop.

There needs to be a picture of the cab driver on there.

What do you have against crappy photoshop?

I look forward to this. Didn't get a chance to see it in the theater. All though there's something about that heart poster that makes me go "Hmm, Delicious" for some strange reason. ;p

Hey, happy birthday to me!

That 'family friendly' audio sure will come in handy as me, Grandma, the kids from next door, and two visiting Mormons with their foot in the door are watching Jason Stratham do his girlfriend doggy style in a busy public street.

Well, some guys wear it well.

While they're having fun with these special features, they better not forget to include a DVD-Rom mini-game where you run wild in the streets with a hard-on and try to power-up with "Good shit...plant shit..."

I'm pretty sure you can find some gentlemen in the South Side who can supply you with what you need to simulate that experience.

Oh, this DVD is getting bought the day it comes out. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun with a movie.

And the best part about the sex scene was that he couldn't get it up until he saw the bus full of Japanese school girls looking at them. I couldn't believe how awesome that scene was.
