The future of automated death is here, folks.

The amazing promo video at the link is a MUST SEE as it is both hilarious and disturbing (with music from Pirates of the Caribbean?!).

Quote:
Samsung has partnered with Korea university and developed the machine-gun equipped robotic sentry. It is equipped with two cameras with zooming capabilities one for day time and one for infrared night vision. It has a sophisticated pattern recognition which can detect the difference between humans and trees, and a 5.5mm machine-gun. The robot also has a speaker to warn the intruder to surrender or get a perfect headshot. The robots will go on sale by 2007 for $ 200,000 and will be deployed on the border between North and South Korea.
edit to add more nonsense.

Killbots!

It's finally time for a Chopping Mall remake.

That's either very cool or very troubling. ED-209 here we come.

Why does a sentry need to fire full auto? Just in case your warehouse is attacked by a roving band of xenomorphs?

This is rather awesome.

Why not both?

1. How the fuck can they spend so much on designing the weapon and then do such a poor job with the video that's supposed to sell it? I guess they realized the thing fucking sells itself.

2. This thing was begging for The Rock or Con Air theme.

3. This is going to make my personal life goal of sneaking across the DMZ with Kim Jong Il's movie collection that much more challenging, and in the end, fulfilling.

And yes I know they're being deployed by the South Koreans, but I'm not pulling this job for the free world. I'm doing this one for me.

I'm pretty convinced it's going to be relatively useless.

The robot has one machine gun mounted to it. While it has the ability to track multiple targets, it can only shoot one of them at a time. It shouldn't be too difficult to approach it from different angles, calmly follow the instructions it gives you, and just as calmly toss a Molotov Cocktail or other form of IED at it.

At best, it could possibly take out 1 or 2 of your group. While that's an unacceptable loss for say, an American squad, I wouldn't put those kinds of tactics past the North Koreans.

Yeah, I do like the ones from Congo a lot more.

Mount 50 of those in a line on your side of the DMZ, however, and you're good to go. They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear.

Oh, and a one-time cost of $200k, plus maintenance, is a hell of a lot cheaper than the three shifts of troops, year after year after year.

I eagerly await the Tesla coil version.

Wesley Snipes has all of these attributes and he adds to the mix a lack of acting ability, some fraud accusations and the ability to wear sunglasses to boost his fighting capability.

Beat that, robotic sentry gun.

You honestly don't believe this can take out lightning clones, can you?

The info-mercial needs Korean babes in camou bikinis mounted on top of the bots.

This is a terrible, stupid idea. And depressing.

I'll mention that to John Connor, when I see him.

I'll be there opening day for that flick.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Johnny 5 could take it out. Anyone have a clue what it is saying in the video?
