The Semi-Official Wii Thread

Might as well start fresh now that the system is out.

I froze my ass off for three and half hours his morning but it was so worth it, 11 out of 23 at my line.

The system is great. I went with Trauma Center since there were only three copies of that and buttload of Zelda. I'll pick that up later this week. I like that they kept the House and Scrubs references as the patent names.

Anyway, back to bowling and saving lives.

Hey, interested in trading Wii numbers? Mine's-

3609 2823 5748 1076

I'm still playing Rayman and thinking about finally finishing Wind Waker before going to look for Twilight Princess.
My friend, girlfriend (for supprt) and I waited from 8pm to 12am and we were 11 and 12 in line and picked up Zelda. Every single store in my city had 20 or more people in line, so I had to drive 40 miles into a small town called Benson,AZ, it was pretty fun. So far, I'm loving the ease of Wii sports and am going to play Zelda later on. I need to get another controller, hopefully they have them in stock.
I have a defective controller.

Fuck.
I'm going to be picking up one of these with my Christmas bonus at the end of the year, so I'm anxiously awaiting feedback on what everybody thinks of it. My main question would be how well the controller reacts to fast, wide movements, like in Wii Sports or Redsteel. Oh yeah, and did anybody buy Redsteel? I heard mixed things.
I guess I am way out of shape. I'm a little sweaty after about an hour on Wii Sports.

Hell, I think I'm in relatively good shape and a few rounds of boxing and a couple games of baseball had me a little heated. Also, this game only reinforces how terrible I am at real-life sports. I am awful at the baseball game.

The first surgery in Trauma Center with the new character is so awesome.

So where do you find your machine number?
Never mind. Found it.

Number:
4356 9470 4306 1727

Machine Name:
Mule
It's not that I'm out of shape; my apartment is just really warm! Yeah, that's the ticket. Haven't popped in Zelda yet. Taking a little break from boxing the hell out of my trainer. I still need to work on the sensor zone, it seems like half my punches don't even register. Baseball is fun as hell, though.
Well, I'm bored with Wii Sports. Thank Christ I didn't spend any money on that one.

Zelda is...okay. The graphics are damn near painful after Gears of War in high definition, and the pacing of the first hour or so really sucks. It feels like it's finally starting to pick up now and the potential is there, but it's definitely not a masterpiece yet.
Opening now.

I love the idea of the Mii Parade. I can't wait to get my Wii online and have my Mii invade your consoles.

Also, I can already see something happening to the sensor bar and the attached wire breaking. I hope Nintendo offers replacement bars on their website in the future.

Give me a last-gen game you'd compare Zelda to (graphics wise), if you don't mind.

Are the text bubbles jarring?

A slightly prettier version of Shadow of the Colossus
post #18 of 1536
What are these "Wii Name" and "Wii Number" you guys are posting?
Little Alex Mii's are spreading across the countryside....

David- it's basically your online ID for the Wii. With it, you can send messages to people and share your avatars (Miis) with them.

I've added everyone from this thread so far- I'd like to get some more people popping up in my Wii Sports.
I'll get mine as soon as I can find it... Wii golf is great. I don't know what all the haters are talking about. That and bowling are the most interesting games.
I thought I saw the Wii wireless network card available for sell at BB. Did you guys get that? I may need to get it if I want to get into the network with you guys.

The text scrolls quickly and the font is nice and big. Would full voice be more immersive? Yeah, but it's probably not a dealbreaker.

Comparison-wise, I don't think Shadow of the Collossus is fair...Zelda is very cartoonish and stylized, where SotC is trying for photorealism. And Zelda doesn't chug and glitch the way Sony's game did.

A lot of my problems with the graphics could be fixed whenever I finally get component cables, though. Hopefully that will help with some of the muddy textures and blurry effects.

The game picks up a lot after you wolf out, by the way. They should have skipped the entire first hour and just started the game here.

Yeah, I'm digging the golf too. Training bowling right now.

To find the #- head to your messages- then check your address book. It'll show your Wii # and how to add other people.

Anger- yeah, if you're talking about that wifi connector that's labeled ds/wii- yeah, that works just fine. Seems to be a little lag in getting messages to your friends over the network (took about 15 minutes for my Mii to get over to a friend's house) but it's pretty cool in that it's always connected.

Would you compare the first hour to the first hour or so of Ocarina? Because I actually quite like that part of the game, even though it is kind of slow.
Do you have to have a wireless network setup to use the wifi connector for the Wii? Also, if so, can you connect by using an ethernet cable?
I'm looking on best buy.com and they have this-Datel WiFi Max for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS Lite- and it says all you need to do is plug it into a pc with internet connection to connect the game consoles. Is it that easy?

Yep.
As long as you've got a usb port- yep.

Who's Gangstar, btw? He's walking around my parade right now.

I hope they do something more than Wii Sports for these Mii's- cause it's a cool idea to use as an avatar. I like the fact that you can collect your friends as well.

Haha. Gangstar is my stepson.

The first hour of Ocarina felt fresh because it was the first time a Zelda game made the jump to 3D, and there had never been a Nintendo game exactly like it before. The first hour of Twilight Princess feels like mindless busywork: buy a slingshot, catch a fish, shoot some targets, herd some goats, repeat. There's nothing particularly new or cool, so you feel like you're just spinning your wheels until they give you a sword and let you start the real game.

But, like I said, it picks up pretty quickly after that. The Monkey Temple is surprising me...it's way more challenging than the first dungeons in the other Zelda games. To me, at least, that's a really good sign.
Looks like I'm going back to BB to see if I can get Datel WiFi MAX for Nintendo Wii, and get online. If it is as simple as plug it into the USB port of my computer, then it'll be easy and intuitive.

Btw, have you guys download any of the classic games using Nintendo Points card?
Also, I hate hate HATE the Wiimote's speaker. It's way too noisy, and the sound quality is just awful. Every time I roll into an object in Zelda, it sounds like my hand is farting.

Who thought that stupid little speaker would be a good idea? Why is there no option to turn it off? Gah.
Does anyone know where that fucking fishing rod can be found?

My code, 3502 9736 2888 6651.

Machine Name- MontyCora.

I like it, but regardless you can change the volume by pressing the Home button and clicking on the remote in the lower left corner. At least it worked in Wii Sports, I didn't try it in anything else.

By the way, I just played the first level of Red Steel. Eeeeesh. With the two caveats that it is only the first stage and these controls are brand new, I'd say it is teetering on the brink of disaster.

Also- Console Name: Rassafrass
Wii Number: 6698 1503 5912 9656
please tell me nintendo is going to find a better way of putting people together when the actual online multiplayer games come out.

Numbers?! That friend code system was idiotic for the DS, and its even more idiotic for the Wii.
Not very different from IP's for PC players... I'm fine with it for now. It's not like they can beat Live anyways.

The major difference between this and the DS is the Wii number is console specific, not game specific, so you only have to enter it once. It's considerably less idiotic than the DS.
not to mention that once you've registered a friend's Wii you can freely send them messages to coordinate on-line play. I wouldn't be surprised if they add a flag of some kind in the Mii Parade to indicate when a person is playing an on-line game.

18 hours lined up in the cold at the Thousand Oaks Best Buy to get mine, and I was number 81 of 99 available Wii, with a total of probably 140 people in line. Zelda is awesome, and Red Steel is dodgy, but considerably less so after I sorted out my sensitivity options.
After day one with Wii Sports (which, unlike Slater, I didn't get bored of yet) I can already tell that when I wake up in the morning I am going to have one hell of a sore shoulder. The system should have had a tube of Icey Hot included with it.
Yeah, I can't help but get into tennis like a crazy man... My poor shoulder...
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

Looks like one heck of a game that utilizes the Wii remote well. Check the trailer if you can; it's a party game that will be sure to entertain the crowd.

Talk to the kid standing with Epona twice, and he'll tell you that his mom has the fishing pole for you. That's the bitch who lost her basket. Get on top of the roof of the general store and hop out to the northernmost platform, then use the blade of grass to summon the hawk. The hawk will snag the basket for you (the monkey on the island is holding it), and once you return it to the mother, she'll give you the pole.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for that shit. You don't need the Nintendo Points cards to buy stuff, you can just use a credit card. That's the better option, card form is gonna cost you a buck or two extra.

The games themselves look nice (not stretched out on a widescreen HDTV), putting the Xbox Live Arcade ports to shame. Super Mario 64's easily the best thing they have up right now. Hell, that's gotten about as much playing time as Zelda...

Huh? My Live Arcade games aren't stretched out in HD, and many of them have updated graphics over the originals.

You guys don't have to give your console name, you know. You can put whatever nickname you want to the people you add. I just wish people got a request- cause you can't communicate until both of you have added each other- but don't know when someone has added you.
You were my third batter, Alex.

I didn't realize that it didn't send out requests. Well that's a pain in the ass. Well, I added Cigarette Burn and Domingo also. Havent checked yet to see if they have added me or not.
