Whedon talks "Buffy: Season 8" - Page 6

Didn't the comic have the heroes steal a South Korean military submarine and then sell its parts, presumably on the black market, in China?

I don't know if anybody writing this thing was thinking through anything.

I'm really, really glad I didn't invest in this comic series as it sounds like it spun out of control faster than the Tasmanian Devil. Sometimes, too much creative freedom is a bad thing.

I don't know, I kinda dig that it completely turns the story on its head.

You thought Buffy was a hero? Ha ha ha, now she will steal military technology from one country and sell it on the black market while invading another country. Yay! Girl Power!

It's too bad, because it was quite good for twenty issues or so. I recommend picking up the first trade, and "The Chain" is a perfect stand-alone.

I think the wheels started to wobble when the writers moved into the "Everyone in the world but the Slayers thinks vampires are cool" storyline and major developments started happening without the direct involvement of the central characters.

Issue #39 is almost totally incoherent. It's not just that the characters aren't getting the space to be themselves-- there's no flow to the narrative at all and no distinction between installments. In that respect, though, it does remind me of the final stretch of Season 7.

(Unnamed character's) death could have had incredible impact. But you need to go back to Season 5 to get into his head, understand his choices.

...And against all odds, #40 manages a satisfying 'season' finale. Whedon's afterword, in which he acknowledges that parts of the story did spin out of control and lose touch with the characters, is encouraging as well.

My local shop was sold out of the Chen cover. Grr.

Will be putting the whole thing on eBay soon enough, if anyone is interested.  Don't think I'll be rejoining for the next season.

So, Angel was so disturbed by what happened he's now a vegetable?  Yeah, don't buy that.

Just finished Season 8.  I thought I was out.  I finally had enough... and then I read No. 40 and Whedon's afterword.  Goddamnit, I guess I'll be checking out No. 41.

I'm not proud of this.

The last issue got one thing right. Kennedy and Willow FINALLY broke up. Willow all but says she is still in love with Tara.

I didn't think Willow was referencing Tara.  I think she was referencing that Snake Woman Goddess thingy that she's been cut off from.

That was the sense I got.

I was a big fan of Willow and Tara as a couple. Maybe I was biased in saying she is still in love with Tara. However she did say she is in love with someone she can't have, or words to that effect. Being dead would be a good example of that.

Willow finishes the issue staring longingly at Aluwyn.  She ain't talking about Tara.*

*Though I admit that I sort of hate Tara, at least in seasons four and five.  That fake stutter put me off from the get-go.

Sure, get all technical, Dark Shape, and call it "Aluwyn".  I'll stick to "Snake Woman Goddess Thingy", thank you very much.
