Such a great month.

Frank Capra Collection
Il Conformista
1900: Special Edition
Forbidden Hollywood
Miami Vice
Bond Ultimates
Talladega Nights: Ballad of Ricky Bobby
When the Levees Broke
Black Dahlia
jackass number two

That's pretty packed for any month.

Not to be the lame "Mr. You Forgot Something" but SNL: The First Season is a big highlight for this month.

Between the couple things I'm getting myself and the stuff I'm buying as gifts it's going to be another DVD Christmas.

So, this is what we get instead of The Special Edition? I kid.

Oh, and you forgot M:I S1, Simpsons S9, and A Scanner Darkly. Indeed an expensive month. Damn you Santa.

Yes...it is almost funny

how DVDs have become the new "tie" or "pair of socks" as the utility gift. There are tons of good choices but I think that last year was bigger for DVD selection. That being said, I know no one, except for gamers that drop cash on just about anything that has the letters "x" or "ps" attached to be in the market for HD or Blu-Ray. Give me the classic red read ones anyday!

Until I win the lottery of course.

I'm looking forward to the ROCKY 2-disc, myself. Curious to see how good that one is.

Pinky & The Brain Vol. 2
Beerfest
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Ditto on Pirates 2...

WTF!?! 2 discs are now 10 bucks more? Those greedy f**kers! WB (Constantine, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Supes Returns, etc), then Paramount with MI:3, Disney with Narnia and now POTC: Dead Man's Chest.

I'm a film freak completist with an eye for a bargain. This sucks.

Not exactly sure where to ask this (and didn't want to start a new thread for it), but I was curious about the special features on the Pirates disc. I'm a CG animator, and I'd be interested as hell to watch an in-depth feature about Davy Jones. I see that there's a feature about him, but it seems more like a feature about his legend, rather than the process ILM went through to create him.

Anyone know if there's a doc like that on the disc? The one ILM had on the Episode II disc about Yoda's creation was great...

I bought the 2-disc today (now yesterday), I'll watch the special features and report back Wednesday (today). Best Buy had an exclusive extra disc (3rd) that I got as well.

Hmm... as for WB I recall, that their 2-disc versions were only about $3 more than the single-disc versions (MSRP, anyways). Though Universal is the worst at charging way more for the 2-disc versions than other studios, the blame lies on the retailers that give the huge, loss-leader discounts only on the single-disc version, and leave the double-disc version's prices hovering just under MSRP.

I'd like to go back to 2003, when there was only a crammed 2-disc version released, so that was the only version they could give a huge discount to.

I think the studios realized they we're losing money on used product. So, they make the single disc for rental, and the two disc "buy only".

I'm mainly talking about sale price the week or so they're released. Many times it's a $10 diff and the 2-disc is $25.

Most likely the case.

The Davey Jones doc is pretty good. Lots of ILM footage, comparisons to on-set stuff, etc. Unfortunately, they don't go into a "ton" of detail on the Kraken (he's got a featurette) or anything about the rest of the crew. From my perspective, there could/should always be more of that stuff.
