Why? Were those rules made explicit? Last year each round lasted a week, not two days.

*Edited to fix typo.

Are we going to mix up the brackets somehow?

Because otherwise there will be an unbearable bloodbath in bracket B for shows that would kick every show in bracket D.

But you are the greenkeeper, so go ahead!
If it was me, I'd close each bracket as soon as it was whittled down to eight, then shuffle them up and reset each show back to [3]. But this fabfunk's baby, so if he's gonna shut it down tonight, fine by me.

Also, I think these have been up for three days, not two, but I haven't slept much for the last two weeks, so I am probably mistaken (and definitely nit-pickey).

Edit:

I'd take all the remaining shows and rank them by the number of votes. Then count off. For example:

Show A [15] -- Bracket A
Show B [12] -- Bracket B
Show C [11] -- Bracket C
Show D [10] -- Bracket D
Show E [9] -- Bracket A
Show F [8] -- Bracket B
Show G [6] -- Bracket C
Show H [6] -- Bracket D

And so on and so on.
Yeah it may be three days, but in any case this is not nearly enough time to declare any type of winner. There are too many shows still in play. Your idea of whittling them down to eight is a good suggestion.

Edit: I like Richard's suggestion as well. I wasn't sure if Fabfunk was gonna take the top three from each bracket and start the final round. If so, that wouldn't reflect the rankings accurately.
Usually, a show is lucky if it can be considered merely "entertaining." A special breed of show is also worthwhile if it's proven to be "intelligent." It's a rare occasion when one show can honestly be considered both.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA '04 is both, and on a regular basis. It's not hip to like this show, or it would be doing better in the ratings. I've been watching TV longer than many people here have been alive and in my opinion, BSG'04 is entirely worth all the praise it receives.

Appreciation for older shows is not the problem. Voting for current faves is not the problem. The biggest problem with this Knockout is that it's so completely disorganized and unruly in its bracketing. It's apples against oranges against M-1 tanks against toilet plungers against little fluffy bunnies.

This is more of a Whackout.
Well, I mean, I think whatever is close to being knocked out will be knocked out tonight. Everything else seems to have a steady lead, so I think tomorrow would be counter-productive. But it's probably a better idea to keep it open one more day, so whatever...

BRACKETS OPEN UNTIL TOMORROW.
I'll be honest -- I've never seen BSG, but I am willing to give it some benefit of the doubt. I know several folks who love this show to death, but I gotta say, I am pretty surprised it's racked up the vote total it has compared to several other shows in the list.

I agree with your comments regarding the organization of this knockout.

I love BSG to death, I'm just inclined to go for longevity and perspective when knocking shows out or bumping them up. If it came down to the original Trek or BSG, I'd go Trek.
But see, I could just as easily say you're voting out of a sense of nostalgia rather than perspective. If I were to compare BSG (so far) to all three seasons of STAR TREK and base my votes on how many episodes ended with me thinking, "Wow, that was really great," BSG would rack up a higher number for me, by far. What TREK has in its favor is the long-beloved chemistry of the cast, along with a handful of very conceptually-intriguing episodes. I guess it all depends on what you want to get out of any show. It's different for everybody, so I don't think it's entirely fair to question anyone's taste in voting based strictly on a show's longevity, or lack thereof. But if you think someone is voting for what you actually consider to be bad show, then that's a whole different story.

I can't wait until next year when we do this TV Knockout thread and the Dresden Files is the No. 1 vote getter.
When is there is like four or five people voting at same time, it gets really difficult to keep up!

I always look at the thread as soon as I post and see if anyone new got in above me, then edit my post accordingly.

We haven't had nearly as many train wrecks as we did in some of the previous knockouts.
I have been voting in order (e.g. Bracket A first, then B, C, D). That seems to keep me mostly out of trouble. Plus, it helps me keep track of how many times I've voted.

Speaking of which, I've logged my five in each bracket today. I will see everyone tomorrow with the new brackets. Good luck to all your favorite shows*!!

*Except the ones I hate.

I've got nothing against Bugs and the gang, but I think a bunch of edited Warner Brothers shorts shouldn't be knocking out actual created television shows.

I relented on my support of Red Dwarf and let it get devoured, but I won't do the same with Looney Tunes. Classic Looney Tunes was some top quality stuff. I feel it deserves my vote more than anything else currently in that bracket.

But it's like voting for the ABC Sunday Night movie or something. It's material that originated somewhere else and was simply shown on television, and I'd rather recognize shows that were actually created for television.

Most of us were first exposed to Looney Tunes through the show. For many of us, television was the only avenue of which we ever got to see it.

Bottom line, it's in the brackets. If it didn't belong there, that should have been taken care of before the knockout rounds began. Since it's there and I feel it's most deserving in that bracket, I'll keep voting for it.
Apparently people are still voting, but I hoped voting would end last night. Whatever the case, new brackets are being set up.
Find the posts that ended at midnight and use the point total from there. It's not fair to have shows suffer in points because the people championing them actually followed the rules.

Good call, Diva.

I should have asked for help. I'm new at this.

Choke on it, Battlestar!

Lost got knocked out twice in its bracket. Probably needs to be fixed.

It is. Although if I could knock it out a 3rd time, I would...

EDIT: And Diva, I watched both seasons of Carnivale and liked a lot about it but I don't think it ever really found its groove. It was an interesting failure.

Hewlett fixed the error. Lost is KO'd legitimately.

I think the show picked up by the end of the first season. But like Lost, the story was planned to unfold over several seasons, and when HBO balked at renewing it due to low ratings, the producers were forced to rush the second season and try to resovle some very complex things in a short amount of time. Both HBO and the producers of Carnivale claim the Series Finale answered all the questions. But for every question it did answer, more were asked. I really would love to see a new show just about Sophie and her turn to the dark side. I don't think I've ever been excited about a show like I was with this one. The Carnivale threads on CHUD were a blast and I feel a bond with the people who participated. I like shows like Entourage well enough, but it kills me that that show, which doesn't really have big ratings either, are given a chance but Carnivale wasn't. Granted Carnivales production costs were astronomically higher than a show like Entourage, but damn if it wasn't worth it.
If voting was to stop lat night, the threads should have been locked. I also think that points from the last round should have carried over, but shit.. I'm not running this thing. It must be a nightmare coordinating this.

BSG getting taken out so quickly is lame, but such is life. History will smile upon this show as being superior to at least half of the current brackets if not more.

BSG deserved better, but it's not even three years old yet, so I can't get too worked up about it being knocked out.

I do think it was knocked out out of sheer pettiness though.
Yeah, because so many shows before were knocked out solely on lack of merit...

Which is truly shocking when you consider the one responsible for a lot of frustration in past Knockouts because he couldn't be bothered with learning how the game was played, is now ruining...sorry, I mean, running the show.
Man, I do not get all this love for All In The Family. Yes, I am old enough to remember how groundbreaking it was, and no, it was never all that funny.

Damn, I go to work for a few hours and when I come back both Freaks and Geeks and Curb are gone.

So I guess still having a cultural impact 40 years after it premiered wasn't good enough to keep Star Trek around?

I'm looking forward to a final list composed of whatever someone happened to catch on DVD yesterday.

This is just a Knockout...and a poorly handled one at that. It's not induction into the Museum of Television and Radio's Hall of Fame.

Bracket B needs to be tweaked.

In keeping with the character, I move that if Doctor Who is knocked out, it gets added back to the list with 3 points, and that this can happen a number of times equal to the number of Doctors there have been on the show.

I'd be inclined to participate, but I can't muster a shred of enthusiasm for any of the remaining shows, except Arrested Development. And those that voted out Deadwood are balless soulless suckers of Satan's cock. Pardon me, they have a different and equally valid opinion than myself.

Thank you Mr. Hicks. Any other comics you feel like ripping off?
Aw, fuck you, dumbshit. How could I possibly believe no one here had heard of Bill Hicks? Why not accuse me of ripping of Lo Pan for my quote, or ripping off the HBO website for my avatar of Ian McShane? I quoted one of the most frequently repeated lines by one the the respected stand up legends under the assumption people would get it. I figures it would be obvious, and frankly, it wouldn't be difficult to come up with some similar obscene phrase, but I just didn't feel motivated. And up yours for ripping off Lebowski.
Upon looking at my previous post, it occurs to me that, while I stand by the general sentiment, the delivery of this sentiment is, perhaps, excessively dickish, and goes a touch farther than necessary. Apologies to Anjin.
What is the deal with round two? When does it close? Is there a third round, combining round two brackets?

Just checking...
I'll piss apple sauce before I let Arrested Development lose to the fucking Muppet Show.
I'll keep brackets open until tonight, although I'm pretty read for the one SUPERBRACKET to end this whole thing.

But killing Arrested Development and keeping The Muppet Show? You losers.

Well, we've entered the stage now where it's not so much about knocking out shows you don't like as much as it's about knocking out shows that are threats to your favorites, and around here, Arrested Development was a potential juggernaut, and really the only show I liked that I voted against.

I'm surprised The Simpsons has as many votes as it does considering how everyone seems to want to pretend every season after 7 or 8 never happened. And The Sopranos deserved better.
But again, the fucking Muppet Show?

And I liked it, but sorry, Mystery Science Theater is barely even a SHOW.
Please would someone explain to me what's going on here? South Park is out, Simpsons are in, and The Muppet Show seems to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Are people just going to carry on voting until the second coming of Christ?
