Facebook Friends

Now that the masterminds behind the best social interaction site on the net have opened it up to the teeming, unwashed masses, who all has joined up? Believe me, you haven't lived until you have the News Feed tracking your every move.

I'm under the alias Brendan M. Leonard at NYU.

I've been on Facebook for about a year and a half now, and I think it's actually very good for networking at college.

The opening it up thing, though, just doesn't make much sense because it's not customizable enough to come close to matching the vanity of myspace. It's really only good as a networking tool.
I've been on it for a while now, as well. Hey Rath...wanna be my Facebook Friend?
Christopher Anthony.

Rath, I've sent you a friend request. Thanks for the new facebook firefox extension, if you do it, I see it. ALWAYS.

Personally, this is still a long way off from being the social nightmare MySpace became. I've yet to get a bunch of fake friend requests and I rarely notice the ads. The privacy options are far more advanced as well, so if you don't want people to see certain things, they are easily turned off.

Yeah, I will be friends with everyone on the board, just send me a note in your friend request saying you're from CHUD. I'm one of these noids who will turn down random friend requests. Also, I overuse the "status" and "notes" feature A LOT. You are thusly warned.

I think the biggest thing Facebook has going for it is that it's a lot better when it comes to privacy issues and you can't edit the basic set-up of the page. You can do everything--from a blog to sharing music and files and posting pictures--that you can do on MySpace on Facebook now, without having teeny-boppers (like my actual kid brother) fucking with the HTML code and freezing your browser if they don't do it right.

If I had one complaint about the facebook, it's that there's no cross-referencing feature available on the "groups" function. There should be ONE global group for "Grey's Anatomy", not seventeen...although the lack of a cross-referencing feature allows you to browse through quite an amusing number of group titles.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure if there's an interest out there, there's a facebook group for it.

Troy Anderson.

I'm on there now and I've added Rath. I'm still trying to figure out how it works. Damn kids got me used to MySpace and now they spring this shit on me.
Been on facebook for almost a year now. Didn't realize they had opened it up to everyone (dang, there goes that sense of elitism.)

Jonathan Otto, American University. If anyone cares.
Ask Kueller. I'm on there. Hell, I even started a CHUD fan group that Devin's sister joined.

I just got onto it tonight at the behest of my wife. A lot of my friends talk to me through her and it makes her unhappy. God knows its not fun when she is not happy.
My name is Daniel Baker
1. I don't think "Daniel Baker" is enough information, there, chief.

2. heh @ Chris Anthony's current facebook 'status.'

3. Ah, friends. I feel like I belong to something today. You know, like a young boy joining the Crips.
Sorry the only network I'm in is Columbus OH or you can find me at the Chud Group.
Anyone: if you're looking for any of these guys today, just look on my mini-feed. Or the CHUD group, but I like the attention.
Ah, Facebook- spread your tentacles onto me!

Gabe Toro, of Hunter, is here and gorgeous. And yes, that's Guillermo Del Toro in my profile pic.

Join my FOUNTAIN group.
I'm in the CHUD group as well. Name of Galioto.
You're in some hilarious groups, fabfunk. And yeah, I joined that Fountain one.
I formed most of those, yeah. I am responsible for 'The Cult Of Gabe Toro'.

That other group has that girl claiming if her group gets 200,000 people, she'll post any picture of her that people want. She claims that there's a "special" picture that some group members have received, but it's obvious she's just lying. Every time I see her picture pop up during the updates, I wonder what product she's secretly pushing. Also, I touch myself.
I'm the Greg Clark currently plaguing SHSU--shouldn't be too hard to tell which one I am (you'll know when you see my profile picture). I'm always looking for people to add to my stalke.....er, um, "friends" list.

Just FYI, my work blocked Facebook again. Since I live on site, I don't have any access to it. So if you add me as a friend and it takes me a while to get back to ya, that's why.
Hey, check this out, Rath!

P.S. - I just sent you a friend request.

Yeah, the IT guys are pretty smart, so in addition to blocking networking sites, they blocked a large majority of the sites that allow you access to filters, including that one.

I'm planning on getting my own wireless network soon, though, so I should have access back by next month. Not that anyone cares.
My cousin convinced me to start an account, so I currently have no friends that aren't related to me.

I hate having Hunter College as my network. I would have put NYU as my school, but I graduated so long ago I can't remember my e-mail addy. Anywho, I can't say that I'll check this site all that often, but if you like having random people as friends, hit me up: Sabrica Barnett.

Well, since I work in a college IT dept. I can tell you that even if you remembered your NYU e-addy, chances are it's kaput since you said you graduated a while back.

Some schools offer post-graduation e-addys, but many delete accounts within a matter of months once a student has graduated.

We give graduating seniors two months to sort things out and start using a new e-addy or another one they already have.

And if anyone feels like friending me on Facebook, I am Andrew Molinaro at Wofford College.

Just include your CHUD name in your request, so I'll know who's who.
i wrote a reflection on facebook for my class today lol
post #30 of 97
I knew this was a bad idea. I wake up this morning and check my e-mail only to find a facebook message from Gabe saying, "You've now got Fabfunk all over you."

On another note, what the heck do people use this for? All I see are lame groups that could be started anywhere on the net and people posting their class schedule. How is this different/better/etc. from say a Friendster or MySpace account?

You can do everything you can do on MySpace--upload videos, post blogs, etc.--without having to worry about the format being changed everytime you click on a new profile. The ads aren't as obvious, either.

Back when it was just colleges, I found it a great tool to meet people and find people with similiar interests in my area. Now, not so much, but I've got so many people I already talk to, I was really only using it for the blog feature.
Well, it was started as a private online communication portal for college students. It got to be so popular, they soon added high school students and more recently, they opened it to everyone.

I was against the "opening to everyone", as it kind of ruined a good thing and now you have people starting even lamer groups than before.

They also really screwed up when they added the stalkerish mini-feed mode. Thousands of users complained by starting groups protesting the creation of this mode and so the programmers went back and added options about what could be displayed. It didn't totally fix things, but it did calm down a lot of the more private users.

I use it to keep in touch with certain students I have befriended or have helped on a regular basis. They are usually pretty good about checking their Facebook accounts more regularly than their email, so it does come in handy from time to time.

It still remains a good means of mass communication for teenagers and young adults.

I don't have a problem with the lame groups as long as a) don't have to look at them and b) again, I think a cross-referencing feature would help everyone out. But there are some ridiculous groups on there....for example, the "Adolf Hitler Sympathy Group."
I just like showing people that I can be a violent drunk.
I just joined Anderson's group. Michael Shaver, if anyone wants to add me.

Daryl Walker at University of Pittsburgh.
I'm on there. It seems WAY better then MySpace. It's also pretty good for my fund raising since I can get the events out there for people to see rather then sending tons of emails. Plus anyone can see the event and attend rather then just friends.
its a good place to catch up with friends - i havent seen some for nearly 13 years! way too long...BTW i set up a group for Guillermo Del Toro if anyone is interested in joining....http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2238228198

Oh, just to let everyone know, I'm currently going by the name of Jordan Sayers on Facebook. I had thought it would be back to normal last week, but the admins there are dragging their feet in changing the name back.
