I remember renting Tears of the Sun because I wanted to see some "squib porn".I actually was going into that movie with that in mind, and squib porn in the jungle with navy seals is all the better. It was far from squib porn,it was bore porn.close up on bruce willis' face porn.BOO!!!!!

I dont agree that Saw is torture porn then. Although I do feel your explanation of the term torture porn is excellent. It seems like people just have a problem with Saw and they call it torture porn as a cheap shot. I definately disagree that Hostel is torture porn.I get pleasure from gore...i think it comes from things other than vouyerism. I like that somebody worked really hard to create gore efffects and put a lot of effort into it. Then you see it and you're like "that's awesome, how'd the do that? its a mazing." The fact that somebody worked so hard to create something that many people are disturbed by is pretty cool. Growing up in the eighties, it was always interesting to see what they'd come up with next with film effects...alot of the things we saw for the first time are old hat now and taken for granted. I think the gore from Hostel and Saw has that "how are we going to top ourselves and everyone else" attitude. I think the fact that many of us are aware that this competition exists between filmakers and studios plays into our viewing experience at least on some small level. Those faces fo death videos, now that is something i could see calling torture porn. Saw at least has a story and just because people seem to think the story is retarded doesnt mean its the complete crap that torture porn would seem to describe.

...the most expensive powerpoint ever made

anywho, i agree that it's stuff we'll never actually see, and since we know it's fake, it's an enjoyable thrill

though i do almost wish a zombie apocalypse would happen...

A small one, perhaps. Say, somewhere in Vermont or something. Geraldo could cover it. Tyra could comment on undead style. The girls from the View could accessorize for it.

And imagine the Dave Letterman Top Ten you could get out of that sucker.....

To me a movie with lots of gore and a bad story is a bad movie. I like gore if it's needed in a good movie but for me gore alone doesn't make a movie good or even watchable.

a friend of mine who's in the marines told me there's an unofficial contingent of marines that train themselves for the event of a zombie apocalypse

If that last part's true, I find that profoundly disturbing on many, many levels.
