Thread Starter
I'll cut to the chase. What are you telling your loved ones/parents/yourself to buy you for Christmas?
I don't like to risk my parents getting the wrong thing so usually i just compile what I want on amazon and...order it myself.
Basically what I want is

Pretty Poison
The Hot Rock
Maniac Cop
Funny Games
Oldboy 3-disc
Read My Lips
The Beast
Escape From Sobibor
Fallen Idol
The Host r3
Bullet in the Head
Topkapi

Feel free to add your lists...and if you feel you know my tastes drop some suggestions because the list is always growin'.

I had better get it.

Within the last few weeks I've picked up others I wanted.

Fletch Lives
Nashville
Blast from the Past
The Witches of Eastwick
The Beguiled.
The Stuntman
Creator
Mission: Impossible: The Complete First Season

My list is pretty short this year, as I usually buy what I want myself rather than wait for someone to buy it for me.

'24: Season 5'
'Penn and Teller Bullshit!: Season 3'

I am at a crossroads. I don't know whether to stop now and wait for HD-DVD versions, or continue building my already stupid-huge collection of "Average Joe DVDs"

In any event, I am still looking for a decent priced set of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection.

Here's a few on my list...

1. Point Blank (Lee Marvin)
2. Battle Royale - I'll be surprised if the in-laws pick this one up for me.
3. Straw Dogs

Someone will need to start something like this sooner next year because I've been looking for ideas on what to ask for (you always miss something).

My list includes:

The Pusher Trilogy
The Stephen Chow Chinese New Year films R3
The Squid and the Whale
The Police Story Double Bill

You should all be asking for the Criterion SEVEN SAMURAI unless you have it already.

I got it for my birthday and have got myself an order for Yojimbo/Sanjuro.
I'm praying that my assorted family and friends have picked up on my SEVEN SAMURAI hints. Other me-me-me requests: THE WEST WING, season seven (to round out my collection), the MIAMI VICE director's cut, the ULTIMATE SUPERMAN COLLECTION (I don't own any of 'em yet), the BRISCO COUNTY box-set....there's a wide selection.

Circuit City has at least the 3rd one in their print ad for under thirty bucks through tomorrow IN STORE ONLY. Not only that, but as I've found is the case other times I've wanted to pick up something in their circular, their website lists NO stores with any stock of the product. Best Buy has stopped carrying it as well, so I can't find any local stores with the product to match the price, but I might swing by a CC later today to inquire as to how their raincheck policy works.

I really don't even want to consider giving Wal-Mart's price-match policy a shot, as that would mean breaking my personal boycott of that hellhole.

1. Humphrey Bogart Signature Collection I
2. Bogart & Bacall Signature Collection
3. NYPD Blue Season 1
4. John Wayne/John Ford Film Collection

Holy cripes, I take most of what I said back! I walked into my semi-local CC (the closest one to me is an atrocity) and found two copies on the shelves! It is the third volume only, but it's $27.99 through today. Not only that, but they have most of the DCU animated stuff mislabled or something as I was able to pick up JLU Vol. 1 and Batman Beyond Vol. 2 for $27.99/each, too (they had to change the price at customer service).

They still don't order enough widescreen new releases, though (no Unrated Ricky Bobby WS DVDs on the shelf).

I now return you to your wish list list thread.

Even if I did want to own the movie, there would be at least 5 other Kurosawas I'd purchase (YOJIMBO, SANJURO, HIGH AND LOW, THE BAD SLEEP WELL, STRAY DOG) before that one. But thanks for the finger-wagging, Dad.

On my list:

THE PASSENGER
RAISE THE RED LANTERN (Hong Kong remastered edition)
1. seven samurai
2. Miami vice
3. POTC: 2
4. maltese falcon
5. rome: 1st season

9.robot chicken:s1
10.the wild bunch:se (i know its old, but i never got around to buying it.)
11. The crazies
12. curse of the golden flower (import)
13. 5 fingers of death

I know I have Playtime, Gojira and We Jam Econo on the way from Amazon, courtesy of my wife. A friend gave me an early present of Looney Tunes Golden Collection vol. 4, and I impulsively (and way too extravagantly) picked up the SNL set while out shopping. But if this thread is hinting that you all want to buy me something, I still need the Busby Berkely, Preston Sturges and Val Lewton sets, Forbiden Planet, 42nd Street Forever Vol. 2, Oldboy and The Calamari Wrestler.
Unfortunately, the one DVD I want the most, THE DESCENT, isn't scheduled for release until the day AFTER X-mas. Which really sucks!
What's stopping you or your family from pre-ordering a copy for yourself?

It's 24 hours, for heavens sake!

I haven't asked for any DVDs this year.

I am planning to buy an HDTV (my first TV purchase) in the first quarter of 2007 and my mother said she would be willing to contribute some money to help me do so.
I'm easy to shop for...

any and all of the new Bond collections
And the special edition of the live concert of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

Seeing as I just bought a new twelve-string acoustic, though, the chances of me receiving anything more than "Merry Christmas, Daddy" is minute, at best.
I got Talladega Nights in fullscreen, to which I responded, "You got me half a movie?!". He threw out the receipt too, I dunno what the hell to do now.
What I got:

A Scanner Darkly
The Royal Tennenbaums (Criterion Edition)
Kids
Dr. Strangelove
Jimi Hendrix: Live At Woodstock
The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things
Marilyn Manson: Guns, Gods and Government
Harold And Maude

What I wanted but didn't get:

Gummo
Mulholland Drive
Lost Highway
Secretary
The Wizard Of Oz
Wild At Heart

All in all it's been a freakishly good year, probably because I have more friends than I ever have before, and my parents gave me money instead of going out and picking things themselves. I feel kind of shallow but I love all my new material possessions so much it hurts! Happy holidays!
Ali G Show: Complete Series
Bad Boys 2 (hey its not that bad at all... ...okay I have an awesome sound setup)
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Van Wilder (umm, this was requested waaay to many times by friends at parties, so this is to shut them up)
Superman Returns (hey its not that bad at all... ...okay I have an awesome sound setup)
Pirates of the Caribbeans Dead Man's Chest

Oh I picked up Apocalypse Now right after thanksgiving, but considered it an early gift.

Run over it with your car a couple of times and Wal-Mart should still take it. My local Wal-Mart has taken books back before. Even after the person has read them.
Luckily I got it exchanged. Probably going to use the inevitable gift cards for futureshop on something like the Frank Capra collection.
I received:

A Scanner Darkly
Jet Li's Fearless
Simpsons: Season 9
SNL: The Complete First Season
Miami Vice
POTC 2: Dead Man's Chest

and several others

I gave:

Band of Brothers
Big Love: Season 1
Weeds: Season 1
The Break-Up
The Peanuts Holiday Collection
Any and every Disney DVD release of 05/06 that I could grab

I went rather light on the Home Entertainment stuff this year in lieu of other things.
Gave to my daughter:

Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses.

Gave to my daughters mom:

The Cider House Rules.
