Slate's Ten Best Of The Year

I know everyone does these, but Slate really had an interesting list. Lots of art house stuff (doubt anybody here's seen all of them), and, surprise, "Miami Vice" and "Inland Empire" make both lists.

Click for listage.

So Slate's just copying articles from Slant now, huh?

Glad to see my favorite recent film The Proposition get some love.

Plus! Some other people who realize Miami Vice is a really good movie, not like all you crazy fuckers.

I'm surprised they could come up with 10 movies this year that they liked at all. They seem to give nearly everything a bad review.

You said it. I think Schager is a bit full of shit with his worst of list.

And I want to know why the hell didn't The Departed get at least an honorable mention?

Running Scared made the worst of 2006?!

When 4 aka. Chetyre and Inland Empire make someone's Top 10 all I have to say is:

Fuck them.

I never really visit Slant, but they strike me as the Pitchfork of film. While those lists are good, they strike me as too hard trying to be edgy. Hey, if they wanted to entitle it the "Top Ten Best Films You Missed" or the "Top Ten Non-Mainstream Films," I wouldn't mind, but if you don't live in NYC, it's impossible for you to have seen 1/2 of those films (I’m also counting the honorable mentions). Weak.

And even then, they play for one week at a time. Very difficult for a non-critic to catch all that action in one year. But hey, if they think they're the best, more power to 'em. But "Inland Empire" will make my top ten.
