The Wicker Man (Cage Edition)

I did not see the remake in the theatre, so when I rented it, the main screen said "with shocking alternate ending." However, I saw no choice to view it.

The only guess I can come up with is that the alternate ending is the actual ending on the DVD.

So my question, which I suppose requires spoilers for those who have not seen it, how is the ending on the DVD different from the ending in the theatrical release? Again, I am referring exclusively to the Cage/LaBute remake.

Wow, that was confusing.

Edit: Okay the commentary says something about a coda, added mostly to satisfy the studio, that was removed for the DVD release. Maybe the movie bombed, so the producers took out this coda (Devin's review says something about a perplexed James Franco) to justify calling the DVD version "shocking" (simply because it ends how the 1973 original ends) and sell a few more discs?

Either way, I have it on the way from Netflix.

I saw it in the theater and yes, I am watching it again.
I am a hardcore fan of the original, but am not one of those people who thinks re-makes hurt anything. Yes, this version is terrible - but like Devin's original review said, it's fascinating on some level, and i think - so bad it's GREAT.

How'd it get burned! How'd it get burned!

spoilers

watched this last night, and watched the original ending after watching the "alternate" ending.

in the alternate, we can now see maleus get his legs broken, and bees poured on his head, instead of just in horrible voiceover. also the tacked on epilogue of the original theatrical version is suspiciously missing from the alternate version.

end spoilers.

so yeah.. that's pretty much all i found.

Well, I already sent back the DVD, but was the original ending on there, too? If so, I completely missed it.

i think it was a flipper, the alternate ending with the film on one side, the original theatrical cut on the other side.
at least the copy i watched was.

I was so upset upon viewing this atrocity that I very nearly threw up trying to leave the theater. Not since AvP have I been so utterly horrified with how awful something that has come from awesomeness can be.

It was so bad that it was funny, and then it kept getting so bad that it made me angry, then sad, and then it was funny again, but it kept getting worse and worse, until I left sick. I am astounded at how offended I was about this film.

Just watched it this evening. Has all the makings of a camp classic.

"Step away from the bicycle!"

I just watched this a few hours ago. I was wondering why the famous "My legs! My legs!" was nowhere to be found.

I much preferred the Christian vs. Pagan theme from the original than the Man vs. Woman thing in the remake. And why does it always have to be personal? In the original the cop went to the island because a girl was reported missing and he is a cop and that is his job. In the remake it's his ex-fiance's daughter. It's a complaint I have with a lot movies, not just this one. I know it's supposed to ratchet up the tension, but it's also just so freakin' predictable that the villain is going to get the hero's spouse/child/parent/best friend/dog at some point.
