From the trailer, it definitely sounds like they did away with the "eeeee-aaawww-uunnnn" transforming noise and went with something that sounds like glass breaking and metal twisting... sort of like a controlled traffic accident noise. Commence fanboy bitching in 5...4...3...2...

Oh yeah, very cool trailer.
That trailer couldn't have possibly been better.
Funnily enough, I had coffee with Don Murphy two weeks ago (a very friendly visit at his offices at Henson Studios) and he said that if people don't "get it" when they see this trailer, they're not gonna. He was right. This is pretty fucking sweet.
Very cool trailer. Wasn't that interested in TF prior to this (more of a GI Joe kid in the 80s), but this looks very promising.
In addition, anyone who prefers the cartoon to this can suck my balls.
It looks about how I expected it to. Bay definitely has my $10 opening weekend. Devin, you were right, though, the folks who still cling to their nostalgia of the horrible 80's cartoon are going to shit themselves in anger. Maybe they should go back and watch the cartoon now and then ask themselves if they really want to see that directly translated to the movie. It doesn't hold up.
Interest went from, eh, to "Yes!"

Devin, you are right on about this teaser vs. the LIVE FREE trailer.
I read a lot of comments in the other thread saying to stop the bitching, "a teaser is only supposed to make the general populace aware a new film is coming", which I guess the LIVE FREE trailer does.
The LIVE FREE trailer makes me aware a new DIE HARD movie is coming, a new DIE HARD movie that after viewing said teaser I have no interest in seeing, and this teaser makes me aware a TRANSFORMER movie is coming, a movie I now cannot wait to see.
I love the "Some come to save us, most try to harm us" stuff. That means epic transformer beat downs. This is gonna kick ass.
I was afraid they were going to try and bring that "corniness" of the cartoon to the movie, which I don't think would have worked. I'm glad to see that the machines are posed as an actual threat to the Earth as opposed to "Autobots vs. Decepticons".

Although I know when I'm sitting in this movie and the first vehicle transforms, I'll make the "eeee-oooo-aaaa-heeee" sound to myself. 'Cause I'm an idiot that way.
And because you make that sound when you transform.
Holy crap. Suddenly I'm interested in this movie. That was pretty damn cool.
damn, pretty flippin' sweet...
That was pretty damned cool.
Neat trailer. Be cooler if he'd been wearing a Stan Bush t-shirt.
Your right about the vibe Dev, we all know Bay can direct action , but the vibe from this trailer is completely different from his other movies, Great Trailer

Come on, this kind of film is right in Bay's wheelhouse, this is exactly the kind of movie you want to see his name on.
Looks good, but I still fear too much humans. Except for Morshower, the cast is pretty much soaked balls. Remember, Shia LaBeouf is the lead in this. And one second of him is enough to make any rational human want to destroy something. Megan Fox is the hotness, though.

I'll be there opening day, but with highly tempered expectations.

Phenominal, I hope they kill the little girl. I don't want one of those Con Air (Michael Bay) the girls alive type let downs. Provided the transformer was a bad one that is.

i hope it's optimus prime, and he accidentally steps on her.

Certainly a more engaging trailer than the teaser this summer.

The cast may be reheated ass, but the special effects look like fun.

And being a Bay film, it should have plenty of explosions and over-the-top stunts.

I just wish they would've released a QuickTime version instead of that Vividas streaming crap.

Also, I look forward to watching this at home tonight, with better bandwidth and a subwoofer.

That would be just as cool!! Then his guilt makes him try harder to save humanity.

The one sheet could be an image of a bloody bear attached to the foot of Ol' Optimus Prime.

I get the dissapointment some original transformers fans might have about the designs. I suppose in much the same way fans want a faithful adaptation of any character's costume or look onscreen. From a design perspective I think what they went with was overly complicated, and the most hillarious thing is that I can't imagine how they're going to be able to make toys that work out of these designs. All that aside though, giant robot destruction is all I really wanted out of this movie. And it looks like that will come in spades!

And truthfully, I'd rather have these designs and Cullen doing the voice of Prime than the other way around. I heard his voice in a TV ad recently and I honestly can't wait to hear him in this.

No, I like good movies, something Bay has never made.

Let me relate a story that went the exact same way for Armageddon, Bad Boys 2, and The Island. I knew a group of people that were very excited for all those films. Fine. The loved all the trailers. The films came out and they loved them. Great. I would mention how awful they all were, I was told I was stupid and they were great "leave your brain at the door" (ugh) flicks. They saw them multiple times. They bought the DVDs. Wonderful for them.

Then, about a year or two later after those films were out. The exact same people would go on and on about how god awful and shitty those films were, and like to deny how excited they were at the time(s). They can't even watch them anymore. Why did it take so long for them? I don't know, but it is something weird I've noticed with the Bay film fans I've had contact with.

I'll end it at that and won't post anymore on this, as I don't want to make a lot of back and forth "Bay sucks/No he doesn't" posts for those who are generally excited. Good for you... for now...

The quality of the CGI looked pretty impressive considering that they still have months of rendering to do. It's also painfully obvious that the original blocky robot design woudn't have worked in this context.

You're so uncool. It's trendy to hate Michael Bay, no matter the context. Where have you been?

Oh and Kevin Smith is a butthole.
The music in the trailer had a very foreboding, almost Cameron-like (T2-Aliens) vibe to it that I think really set the mood.

This could be sweet.

I'll let you have Armageddon and The Island (the only one that aspires to be something it doesn't reach), but don't say bad things about Bad Boys 2. That movie is awesome.
With regards to the trailer, I was kind of interested from the get-go as this sounded like the perfect match between a director's aesthetic and a property to be adapted. But this trailer firmly puts me in the believer camp that this has a real opportunity to be an awesome movie.

Spielberg's brain guiding Bay's hand is a very good thing. Michael Bay is like a beautifully functional organ that happens to be prone to cancer.

Con Air was directed by Simon West (Tomb Raider, When a Crappy Remake Calls). Bruckheimer produced it (much like many a Bay film)... maybe that's where you were confused. Or was it the fact that Nic Cage was in it like the Rock (a Bay film) that tripped you up? Or maybe cause stuff blows up?

Over a dozen posts and no one caught that? You guys are slippin.

EDIT: You spelled "phenomenal" wrong. Wouldn't have nothered to mention, but you put it in bold for all the board to see.

EDIT #2: Welcome to CHUD, by the way.

EDIT #3: The trailer was great. Ominous and very Spielberg-ian (reminded me of a cross b/t Close Encounters and War of the Worlds).
I was indifferent (as opposed to filled with bile at the Bay thing). But it looks fantastic- a very enticing trailer I must say. It had a great sense of foreboding (spelt right?) like War of the Worlds (which I liked a lot). The effects looked good, and there was great use of music and sound. It bodes very, very well.

As for those looking for faithful adaptations of an 80s cartoon they liked when they were prepubescent...actually I couldn't even be arsed coming up with a pre-emptive arguement with those guys.

No shit. When are studios going to learn that's the best way for people to view trailers in the best quality?

It's ILM. After what they did with Davy Jones, giant robots should be a piece of cake.

I'm really amazed at how good this looks. And about the vibe from the trailer, it definitely feels like Spielberg invested more in this than just his name as a producer....

I totally caught the WotW vibe from it too. It's awesome to see the USAF get some love too. Nitpicking detail, but the undershirts written with USAF across the front are already nixed from the new uniform. Anyway, back to transforming robots.
Looks FUN.

I'm seeing this shit. Bay should've directed Superman

you are right on all of the points, doh and double DOH. Thanks for the correction.

Yah, I got confused because I remember on the Armageddon commentary, Bay referenced Bruckheimer produced Con-Air and how he got Ben Affleck's teeth fixed ala Nic Cages in Con-Air.... and I was still pretty high after watching the trailer! Don't post high man, DON'T POST HIGH

If you have firefox, go to tools->page info->media(tab)-> Save As

This is the HD quicktime version, don't even bother with the streaming ones.

I haven't followed a second of this until now, but that trailer blew me away. I wondered if a serious movie about transforming robots was actually possible, but the answer seems to be yes.

And to the Michael Bay haters, shutup. I'm no huge fan, but if you think this movie isn't about spectacle, which Bay is phenomenal at, then you're way too invested in the Transformers. Big robots breaking shit. That's a prime Michael Bay plot if ever I've heard one. Though I do like the subtle Spielbergian touches to this trailer.
I'm not Transformer savy, but there was a bit of Optimus Prime in there, right? Like the pool shot?

It looked like he was the robot transforming in the middle of a street, looking down on the humans. Noticeable blue head.

Optimus Prime is the transport truck.

I thought the trailer looked pretty good. Hopefully the movie has the same sort of feel to it.

Good to see Yahoo! finally posted a QT version.

I had more luck downloading the embedding file in Firefox with this link.

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/transformers_hd.html

It allows you to choose from all three HD sizes.
