Buzz has been steadily building for this one... and now Anchor Bay's bringing it out to theaters. Nice.

Hatchet spins a terrifying tale of tragedy and comeuppance from beyond the grave. Victor Crowley is a hideously deformed boy, living in seclusion with his father (Kane Hodder) in an isolated cabin deep in the Louisiana bayou. When a Halloween prank initiated by local kids goes terribly awry, Victor is accidentally killed in a vicious twist of irony. Years later, a tourist group visiting New Orleans’ “haunted swamps” stumble upon the remnants of that shocking event, transforming an evening of seemingly innocent fun into a horrific nightmare, from which there may be no escape.
Smells like Pumpkinhead + Jason stew, which is cool.

Should have a review up later today. Bottom line- it's fun, but nothing fantastic. Lots of good gore, lots of boobs, the requisite horror cameos (Englund, Todd, Hodder). It doesn't do anything crazy or new with the slasher genre, but it's good for what it is.

Still, a better choice to see this than Halloween if you're in the mood for a slasher flick.

Man, this is taking forever to be released. I saw Mercedes McNab at Dragon*Con in 2005 and she had just wrapped filming on the movie.

This was a blast. Very gory, and just a satisfying ride.

*growls playfully at someone who actually got to see it*

Thankfully there's no theater playing this near me at any time in the near or distant future. Lame.

I know they're different, but better/worse/equal to Behind the Mask?

Worse.

Polishing up the review as we speak!

I haven't seen Behind the Mask yet, but I saw Hatchet this weekend. Based on what Devin was saying about Behind the Mask I'd say that one is way better than Hatchet. Hatchet is a pretty run of the mill horror. Like Alex said, it's good for tits and gore.

Ah. Of course I'll still see it though, but it makes me wonder about other reviewers who deemed it the next greatest, most amazing horror movie since moving pictures started.

They lied!

I don't!

Sorry for the delay, fellas.

That's too bad. Between this and The Orphanage, it's apparently been a bad week for overhyped horror films at CHUD.

Your review was dead-on Alex. This was marginally entertaining only because of the gore.

Better than Behind the Mask. You know this to be true.

Haven't seen either, but considering the press BTM is getting, that's a bold statement.
