How many movies did you see in theatres 2006?

Thread Starter
Today I counted all my tickets for this year and came up with 65. Twelve more than last year (repeated viewings of the same movie not included). Saw nearly everything I wanted to see and some crap I got pulled in by friends or family.

In fact, I only saw one movie more than once this year: Miami Vice (2x).
Best theatre experience - Children of Men, you could hear a needle drop
Worst - Date Movie, and never dated that girl again

You?

Well, considering that for half of the year I worked upwards of 60 hours a week, including Saturdays, and that for the other half I was unemployed and on a strict budget, I saw a grand total of 4 movies at the theatre. Wow, that's pretty pathetic. I miss the good old days when my dad took me to the movies practically every weekend.

Best Theatre Experience: The Departed. Packed theatre, great audience reactions in all the right places, and I saw it with my dad.
Worst Theatre Experience: The Fountain. The most genuinely moving film I have ever seen and one of the most visually arresting. I loved it. I will sing it's praises to the end of time. But there were these fucking annoying kids who kept talking and leaving the theatre until a woman yelled at them and caused a scene, and then an usher came in . . . it was a mess.

5 thats it

Best Theatre Experience: POTC best movie i saw all summer
post #4 of 45
Since you saw 5 all year, I wouldn't say that's much of an endorsement.
Did Hostel come out this year or was that 2005?

Not counting that, I've only been to the theater three times this year. Twice to take my daughter to see Cars and POTC and once to go see Slither by myself.
Just 14 for me. That seems low to me, but as the theater experience gets crappier as the ticket prices get higher, I find myself only going to the big movies in the theaters. I feel like I saw everything I had as a must see.
20 something for me

not including
saw POTC2 twice
saw Vice twice
Casino Royale three times

and still have Children of Men, Dream Girls, and perhaps Good Shepard to add

best pre theatre crowd = v for vendetta
best watching crowd = shortbus
worst crowd = potc second time, who brings 5 year olds to dark long action movies
best after theatre crowd = casino royale
complete silence = the fountain

best looking film = marie antoinette,

I stopped counting some time ago but if I had to guess I'd say about 30 to 40 including multiple viewings. It's the lowest number of the last 10 years because I made a decision to start being more a more discerning viewer and stop watching trash.
It looks like 125 trips total, and so discounting repeats it's probably about 120; the only ones I saw more than once were Slither, Borat, Casino Royale, Crank and Good Night and Good Luck when it was re-released early in the year.

Not baaaaaad. If I had to guess, I'd say like 40-something. Maybe one a week.

People actually keep up with this shit?
I think I saw more films in one year the theater when I was an infant. It's been a bad year. I saw two, and I saw them both in the same day(Borat and the Departed, if you must know). I sure as fuck would have seen the Fountain, but it vanished from theaters in a whopping 2 weeks.

Granted I live in bumfuck, and I'm poor, but still, I'm ashamed.

On a movie website? Possibly.
77 2006 films
78 if you count the two times I saw The Departed
92 if you count the 15 repetory films I saw in theaters, from California Split to El Topo
post #15 of 45
Um..seven. I will try to catch Children of Men, Pan's Labyrinth, and The Departed in the remaining days of the year.
Do trips to the budget cinema count? If so, I saw a whopping total of 13 movies in the theater this year. If not, drop it down to 11.
As far as actual theatre visits go, I saw 34 movies in 2006. That's not including several repeat viewings of movies I liked--I saw The Departed three times, Crank twice and Pirates a whopping and wallet-smashing seven times.
Most movies I saw this year ended up coming from Vanderberg Theater in Keesler AFB in Mississippi some viewings were on and others were,...not.

Best Viewing: "Pirates of the Carrabbean 2" the quality of the showing no matter how long the flick was, and it was long, made the movie seem to fly by everything was perfect sound picture was occationally spotty but overal great experience.

Worst Viewing: "Superman, Returns" long movie but the lack of action made movie just drag. Add in some horrendous management at the projector at times going off, losing focus or color (turned red) and fans that got loud at the littlest bit of action (the plane that crashed in the ball park was USAF). It was a bad show. The only plus was it was a free showing.

13 for me. Most were pretty good, a couple duds involving super heroes, and one titled THE MARINE.

I'd say about 2/3 of my trips have been in the last few months. Since September there's been a lot of quality flicks to make up for the so-so first 8 months of the year. What's better is that I've seen a nice mix of good action (CRANK, CASINO ROYALE), drama (DEPARTED, BALBOA), and comedies (BORAT, JACKASS 2) in that short time span.

31 that I can remember. There may be a few that slipped out of the memory though. I still haven't decided on a singular favorite film, but if I remember correctly, the most fun I had was at Crank, which seems to sell short alot of the other films I greatly enjoyed, but still, that movie was a wicked fun time. And I'm still hoping to squeeze in Pan's, Rocky and Children of Men before the end of the year. There's a few more I'd like to see, but I may not get to them until the turn.
I don't know the exact count. All I can say is that since I've moved from the Bay Area in Cali, I've seen less and less in theaters and this has been the worst year. Between the fact that audiences have become a worse of an annoyance and the fact that a huge percentage of the movie I want to see don't play anywhere I can see them, I'm seeing most things late and on DVD. The only genre I've been able to really support, indie and/or mainstream, has been horror, which has come as a surprise.

Beyond that, no need to feel guilty Butler. I've seen enough good films this year that Crank would probably barely make my top ten, if at all, but it's by far and away the most enjoyable time I've had at the movies this year. It's like a fun enema.

As of today, 63 in the theater this year. I'm still a theater-going nerd, and I live in Los Angeles where there is no dearth of content.
Currently, I'm at 56 although I plan to see The Good German, The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, and Night at the Museum before the year is out.

Getting Out to the Big Screen

17 was / is my grand total not withstanding the local chain playing Children of Men sometime this calendar year. My drive in amount is also added in; just for the record.

I have to agree that CRANK was the best time in response to a crowded theatre experience but the silence of V for Vendetta and The Fountain also spoke wonders about their movies for opposite reasons. There was also ZERO noise inside the theatre or afterwards for both SOAP and Clerks II which was surprising ten minutes in but understandable afterwards as the films were the prerequesite ball tap that you just knew was coming but you had to take the long walk from the gym shower anyway.
I only have one theater close to where I live, and it's really mainstream so:

V for Vendetta
X-Men 3
Superman Returns
Monster House (with my daughter)
MI:3
Eragon

Sadly, The Fountain never came close to my town.

Money is tight these days, so I only watched 5 movies in theaters this year: The Departed, The Fountain, The Prestige, Talladega Nights, & Clerks 2. However, I saw The Departed 3x, The Fountain 2x, and The Prestige 2x. Maybe that's worth something...
Oops. I also saw Clecks 2 as well.

The biggest reason I don't see alot of film in the theater anymore is the chance the DVD will be an "unrated", "extended", or "directors" cut. I'd rather wait and watch it at home.
I've seen 45 films (not all 2006 releases) in theaters this year.

Yay for me!

Looks like you're planning to spend the day/night at the Tara.
32 this year... been slacking off.
Around 12, 9 that were released this year.

I usually only go when there's a major Horror release I want to see.
41 + I may see Apocalypto before the year is through.
Around 53 totally new flicks (not counting both BUBBLE and FEAST which I saw on DVD, but were released to theaters in limited fashion).

I try to catch a new film every weekend, depending on my schedule and what's playing.

Repeat that scenerio about four times over the span of two months and viola, I spent 16 hours this year watching Johnny Depp fall off a cliff covered in mangos.

Still loved the movie, but I honestly didn't expect to see it that many times. Still, seeing people who don't know what's coming at the end gasp at Barbossa made it worth it every time.

As quoted from my 2006 Movie Journal*:

Quote:
END OF YEAR TALLY:

GRAND TOTAL: 66 + 28 + 23 + 48 = 165

Compared to the past two years I watched more movies overall (barely), but my viewing habits changed. I went from watching films in the theater and on TV to viewing them via Netflix and/or DVD.

'Twas a good year for film. A good proportion of the films I saw in the theater I rated a 4 or higher and only a few did I think really stunk (all of which I went with friends who wanted to see said films). Additionally, there are many more films that were released in 2006 that I really wanted to see but didn't have the chance -- The Departed and Children of Men being the most notable omissions.

2006 saw me viewing my first Bond film ever(!) as well as discovering some great Clint Eastwood gems. I'm also continued to catch documentaries and independent films in the theater, as to not do so would be a tremendous waste of living in NYC.

It's always a blast looking back at my movie journal and seeing how my current feelings on these films may have changed and to see how much time I'm spending watching movies (alot!). My New Year's resolution is to watch less crap and continue to diversify my movie viewing to get a good mix of studio, independent, and foreign films.

*Color Legend:
Dark Orange = Netflix
Blue = DVD (either owned or borrowed from a friend)
Red = Theater
Yellow = TV
In 2006 I caught 63 films in the theaters.
I can probably list the movies I saw this past year and count them on one hand.

Death Trance
Slither
Beer Fest
Wicked Little Things

wow. This past year I had to get used to being a new Dad, so my entertainment time was limited.
As far as going to a theater and seeing a movie, i would say I really had a terrible year. I only saw 3.

King Kong **** Stars

Davinci Code *** stars

Rocky Balboba *** stars
ROCKY has as many stars as DA VINCI? I don't know man, seems bogus.

I'll leave the review for now, and I'll get back to you on another day.

"Another Day?" That's pretty vague. Tomorrow works for me so let's make it happen, okay chief?

Okay, how about if I do it this way. Rocky Balboa 7 out of 10. Davinci Code, 8 out of 10.

Is that good for you?
