From one of the directors of Blair Witch, Eduardo Sanchez. Distributed under Universal's Rogue Pictures:
Official Site

Just caught this on dvd. Tight flick! Wish it came out in theaters. Acting was much better than usual DTV horror and the concept was simple yet seemed original enough. Great idea for a small budget. Nice gore and excellent make-up. Think Fire in the Sky revenge-sequel in a "close-quarters Res Dogs/NOTLD sized pressure-cooker".

I enjoyed this one as well. It reminded me of Dreamcatcher at some points, which is odd since it didn't completely suck.

On a positive note, there's an entire shelf dedicated to the movie at the BB I got it from, and I managed to get the last copy, so it seems to be fairly popular with renters. Sanchez and Co. still got screwed, though.

Dvd Double Feature: The Roost & Altered

Thought it might be best to update this thread instead of starting a new one (since there's already info & discussion here).

Anybody else check this out yet?

I've been wondering if Altered was worth a rental, I almost picked it up last night. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, this movie is way better than I'd thought it would be. Great effects, cool little story. When it first started, I said uh oh, because, well, I spotted a guy with a mullet and the dvd case said nothing about it being a comedy. But my fears quickly subsided.

Sure, there were a few spots where the budget showed and a few lines of dialogue that stood out for all the wrong reasons, but this was definitely a fun flick, hope it finds and audience.

MINOR SPOILERY STUFF

I loved the gratuitous appearance of intestines in this movie, and loved the makeup job on the angry one, the guy who looked and sounded like a new wave David Patrick Kelly, I think his character was Cody. His 'fight' scene when he was under the alien's control was good stuff. Great practical effects all the way around.

I think this one is destined for cult classic status.

Is the appearance of intestines in a horror film ever "gratuitous"? You say that like it's almost a bad thing. . .

In a film like this, intestines are always exposed for art, dammit! For art!

Seriously, I have't seen this yet either but the review looks so good I added it to the netflix queue, and I can't wait to see it.

I definitely meant gratuitous as a good thing. No, you can never have enough intestines showcased in a flick.

Awesome. Nice to be read & appreciated. Makes me feel all tingly inside.

Course, it could be the implant from that last abduction...

I'm not even gonna ask where they put the implant this time. . .

The worst part of it was the waiting room. It took forever and the aliens only had old copies of Good Housekeeping and Highlights for Kids to keep me occupied.

But they did install a LoJack for the cost of my co-pay, so it's all good.

Bump!

I just watched this this week, and considering how little attention this thread got, I figured it could use the help.

Overall, I liked it. It's certainly something different, which horror can always use. The effects and the alien suit were impressive for such a low-budget film, the acting was surprisingly good, and there was some imagination and creativity in the story and the effects. What I really like is the way it just dumps you right into the middle of the story, and hands out little background pellets from time to time.

I do have one story issue, though. If the main character wanted to put it all behind him, and felt that ignoring them was the answer, why didn't he just move across the country instead of staying where it all happened? I mean, he's obviously got the money, considering all the guns and explosives.

Other than that, my only issue is that the girl never got naked.

True.

Saw this movie a few months back not as
bad as people on imbd make it out to be.(when ever is acting in horror oscar worthy showing?)

Director did a good job with the mood and tension.

Defiently worth a rent.

I'm honestly surprised this didn't get more advertising (director of Blair Witch!) and it's much better than the average DTV release. Much.

I think I only knew about it because of Creature-Corner and seeing the cover at the video store. The brief plot synopsis alone (alien abduction revenge) was enough to get me interested. It didn't disappoint.

Way better than The Hunt. What a snooze-fest. The cool last 15 minutes couldn't make up for the preceding boredom.

Do you beep when the aliens press the button on their keyring?

It's more like a low "reactor" hum mixed with a form of inaudible speech (think Mos Eisley Cantina's WalrusMan). It scares my wife, but I manage to alleviate her concerns by blaming it on the uncooperative meal she fed me that night.

Does it scare her when she finds out you have the death sentence in 12 systems?

That's why she married me. Likes the "Bad Boyz".

And yes, it's spelled with a "Z".

Rented this back in January, then picked up the disc for 5.00. Really great above average DTV. The atmosphere alone is enough to be creepy. Great effects as well. Particularly on the virus that is spread through the alien's bite.
