Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby Uncut and Unrated

Just watched it today and they cut some scenes from it. They cut the scene where Ricky's mom says she going to buy whiskey and rip her hair out and then Ricky steals the car. The scene with his pit crew at the car wash, his wife saying she's a drivers wife and doesn't know how to have a real job and the part where Jean mentions that he and his husband as going to retire and make a currency for dogs are all gone. And the stuff they put back in isn't even all that great either.

I wouldn't mind the new stuff so much if the other stuff was left in. But this sucks. Some of those scenes were great. And I can't take it back since it was a Christmas present and it's already been opened. They'll just exchange it for the same movie (uncut and unrated). And what gets me is that they say it's uncut but they cut things from it?

The Rated version also has a better commentary, with Ferrell, Reilly, Duncan, Koechner, and the fey guy from 30 Rock (McBrayden?)

They didn't cut stuff, they used alternate lines and takes. They should have released both versions in one set, though.

I think it's totally worthwhile to have both as well, though I assume the extras are the same (other than the commentaries). Which is too bad.

I rented this over Christmas to watch with my parents and brother (I'd seen it twice in the theater) and felt that the Unrated and Extended cut was really an inferior version. Blockbuster didn't even have the theatrical version though.

It seemed that the pacing was screwed up a little bit in this version, jokes that played better in the theater were longer and less tight. While Anchorman benefited from many of its re-added scenes, I think for Talladega Nights it's more subtraction by addition.

Extended version huh? So there's even more obvious and tedious Foxworthy jokes.

Walker and Texas Ranger, whoo-golly is that funny.

Kinda dissapointing to hear. I got this for christmas and haven't had a chance to watch it. Guess I'll just have to see for myself.

I didn't realize the two versions were so different. I wasn't too thrilled by the extended version, so maybe I should check out the thearical cut.

Not true. Brendan is right. I noticed the omission of the scene in which young Ricky drives off in his mom's car.

Yeah, I was going to mention that. That scene was just not there. It wasn't like it was an alternate take, it just wasn't there. Same with the car wash scene. Unless it somehow very quickly happened when I blinked it wasn't there. I honestly don't remember an alternate take or different line of "I'm a drivers wife..." and the "we're going to make currency for dogs."

Hate to hear this. I've yet to watch it but the version I have on hand is the Unrated cut. The theatrical cut is probably difficult to rent since most places only stock the Unrated cuts if one is available. I couldn't even find the theatrical cut on Netflix... do they ever offer both?

The only disc of the rated version I've seen in stores is fullscreen.

The Playstation 3 comes with the rated version. How bad do you want it?

Apatow-produced films always turn up in far inferior "unrated" versions. I watched The 40-Year Old Virgin extended edition, which is the worst way to see that movie for the first time. Funny yet interminable.

The Anchorman unrated version also cuts out Brick Tamland's "I ate a big red candle" line, which was one of my favorite jokes in the movie.

return it

take it back to the store, get a wrapped copy.

Then take the wrapped one to another store. It's Christmas, they'll take it and give you store credit. Then you can get what you want.

Just finished watching it. I only miss the scene at the beginning with Ricky and his mom, and his reply to Reese abount not being able to breath because he's got a cougar on him. Changing the Pet Currency line to Training Komodo Dragons wasn't all that big.

Other than that I quite enjoyed the extended cut. Espically the Boob-off between Susan and Carly at the end.

My one question though, is even on the deleted scenes what happened to the part where he asks for the Fast ball and the bartender throws a shot glass at him. Or where he's singing on stage with the harmonica. They kept showing them in all the commercials/trailers but are nowhere to be found on the disc.

Good question. McKay told me they were going to have the musical number in the long cut.

This is a very funny flick. Color me impressed.

One other change I noticed. They changed the scene at Jean Girards house. This time he introduce Ricky to Elvis Costello and Mos Def. I prefered it the other way. Despite Elvis Costello calling Ricky Mr. Robert. That was kinda funny.

To me this is horrible because it's replacing one of the funniest lines in the original movie with a less funny line. It's the equivalent of the replacement of 'screaming Asian family' with 'shitting a squirrel' in the unrated Anchorman. There is no need to change things that were already solid. It's sad to me because it seems to me like they don't even know what made the film funny in the first place when cuts like this are released. Also, the Mos Def/Costello change is another made for the worse.

Finally saw this movie last night. Was not a fan at all. I chuckled a bit at Sasha's french accent, but it got old quick. I thought it was too long and boring. Only good parts were when Gary Cole was on screen or his two bastard kids cussing out their grandad. Otherwise just didn't click for me. Oh well.

They aren't DRASTICALLY different - I doubt anyone who didn't like the unrated version will be wowed by the theatrical cut.

But if you're on the fence, I agree that the theatrical cut was a bit funnier.

Although this might not be of help, I was checking out my friend's DVD of this and this scene is in the special features somewhere. Maybe near the deleted scenes, but it's there.

It's in Line-O-Rama.

i liked it a lot better when it was in theaters, my brother got the dvd for christmas and i was disappointed about the deleted sceens. oh well, the movie is still entertaining. love the chase sceen with the lucky charms.

Does this movie age well? I usually love these types of movies but this one felt flat and boring to me when I saw it in the theater. A ho-hum flick with some hysterical moments. Does it get funnier the more you watch it or does it stay one-note?
I have the theatrical version on DVD, and I'm fine with it.

I have to say, the movie is hilarious. But the 25 years later commentary on it is just as good as the movie.

That's right, I forgot about the joke commentary. Does seem worth it.

Thanks!
