My Fan Made Movie Posters - Page 2

I dunno. There are more DTV movies than theatrical movies, and somebody has to make the covers...

These are ok as photoshop practice. As far as compelling posters they need work. The composition is not good. You have taglines and headlines and movie titles which are all the same size or weight.

Using the Hellboy 2 as an example, where am I supposed to start? With the headline? The image? The title? The web URL?
The title and main image and headline are all fighting for my attention. There's no natural flow. And the main image tells me nothing. Two heads. There's no concept. I should be able to get a feel for what the movie will be.

And if it's just a teaser then tease. The giant headshot of Hellboy tells us it's Hellboy, so the title does't need to be so huge.

What is the justification for having the "II" be so gigantic?
Every single piece of type doesn't need to have the red/blue glow effect. They null each other.

Hey Myers,
Keep 'em coming. They're fun to look at. I wish I had the time to make movie posters, although I would visit some classics and use the many images that are now available from those older movies. Or even make up some movies. Give it a try and see what you come up with.
I've never seen such a colossal lack of imagination married to such a desire to get noticed.

The posters are all for sequels because the guy is ripping off concepts that have already been tried and tested.

And those are the decent, if completely banal posters.

The others are nonsensical floating heads.

Myers, if you're really looking for some constructive feedback, posters have to wow you, make you want to see a movie. A picture of an actor, lifted from the previous film in the series is not going to cut it. Study some real posters, preferably older ones and not the crappy floating heads ones.

And you are not a writer. All of the taglines are awful. But the thing is, you don't have to be a writer.
Yeah, not a whole lot of imagination, sorry.

Meaning: you should enjoy a fine future in average (ie: mediocre) marketing.

Filters, floating heads, and banal taglines do not make me want to see a flick. Atleast the real Saw 2 & 3 posters had some "clever" dismemberment theme (and interesting composition) going on. Your version looks like more of a poor website banner graphic.

Again, sorry. Your PS skills are ok enough, but the composition and idea behind the execution was not well thought out. Kind of reminds me of secretaries who think they can become advertising experts because someone slipped them a copy of PhotoPaint. You need some art theory lessons and a good idea or 2.

You should take a look at...

...DVD covers for Criterion Collection DVDs. Obviously, those are disc art and not meant for theatrical posters, but damnit, they're still classy!

www.criterionco.com

I worked on an animated short over the past year and was in charge of designing the poster. To begin, I collected a whole bunch of Criterion disc art and basically ripped them off to suit our film. If you look at all the plagarism I did, it's pretty embarassing. It was a lot of fun though and eventually I settled on a concept based on one of the Finding Nemo posters. It's the one with Marlon in the upper third of the poster with a school of fishes swarming on the golden spiral.

Someone mentioned the discipline of composition. That's great advice.

I love this unbelievable thread and want to see more.

No doubt you'll get your wish, the guy obviously isn't going to stop anytime soon.

I don't know what's worse - the fact this guy keeps stumping up, or the fact we keep looking.

Called it on post #3 of this thread.

Please, I want to see more of your work, it is hilarious. I mean, how can you not love the "Saving the world, one enemy at a time!".

Do you take requests, can you make a poster for Battlefield Earth II?
How about one for Serenity II?

I'm not sure how you can top that World Trade Center II poster, but I'd love to see him try.
1) You know enough about photoshop to be dangerous and you don't have an original idea in you.

2) Your taglines are atrocious. Most DTV flicks have better stuff.

I don't know what to do about #1, but you can fix #2 by abandoning taglines altogether. Less is more. Seriously, this isn't to be mean. I think it's important to play to your strengths and hide your weaknesses. Drop the taglines and the quality will be much much better.

Um...thanks?

So I guess Myers isn't interested in our feedback after all. Oh well, at least he pretended that this wasn't just a blatant and misguided bid for attention. I'm actually enjoying his output. I feel like I'm reading the ads for films seeking financing and distribution in a trade magazine during AFM or Cannes. Cannon was the king of these kinds of deperate mock-ups for non-existent movies.

I dont kno if u read teh previous post where i put this, but these posters were made a few months ago and im just posting them here. I have been reading all teh feedback and it will be considered highly when i make future posters.
How about just stopping with the unimaginative sequel crap and making some new ones based on the very pointed criticism you've received.

Or how about just stopping, period? Either is fine.

Okay, you pulled off World Trade Center II, but that was kind of a gimme.

Show me the poster for WTC III!

Horribly worse.

Well, these are reposts but Myers is not the only attention whore in here:

And yeah, Vin Diesel is such a slut.
This thread is amazing. I'm considering learning photoshop so I can try my hand at designing some of my own posters. At least none of my taglines will be as bad as "The Survival for Humanity Begins" - the robot actually looks like he's coming onto me.

All Vin Diesel movies are, they've just been heavily censored and re-edited by the studios. A Man Apart was originally a four-hour Goatse biopic.

You know that wierd feeling you get in your stomach when you watch someone completely embarass themselves. You want to look away because you feel really bad for them...but then they keep going. Eventually the atrociousness of the situation causes part of your brain to shut down. You stop feeling sympathy and want to kill the person to put them out of their misery. That's where I'm at.

Vin shouldn't be parking his car that close to the Thames.
