but I don't see any extras. I see the film on Saturday... is this worth the extra scratch or should I wait? PAN'S LABYRINTH comes out in March in the UK as well.

I have no threshold when it comes to my instant gratification.

It's worth the extra scratch, but don't watch the DVD until you have seen the film on the Big Screen first.

Oh, absolutely.

Play.com has a special feature listed, a featurette called "Men Under Attack". But the dvd isn't out until the 15th anyway. Enjoy the movie, it's quite brilliant.

What an atrocious DVD cover.

I've seen the movie and love it and was considering buying the DVD. I have second thoughts because of that cover alone.

I don't know if I want to wait that long to see it again though. I'll probably break.

Call me shallow and charmingly idiotic but I refuse to pay money to own that cover. Besides the DVD looks barebones anyway. Be strong!

Well, it depends on how good the movie is. If it's as good as I'm hearing, I'll probably cave.

It is as good as you have been hearing.
You'll cave.

DUDE,I was tempted to cave in as well. But after seeing the movie I've decided...caving in inevitable.Especially because none of my friends have region free players and I can be all "hey wanna watch children of men...IN MY LIVING ROOM?" Of course, this is assuming guests won't run out of the house at the sight of the cover.

I would rather give money to a vertically-challenged whore to shit on my still-clothed lap than give money to any establishment selling this utter joke of a DVD release.

Its not even an abominable example of a region 1 visual atrocity, which is what we're accustomed to being inflicted with, absolutely disgusting.

I love the film, but I'll wait. You'd probably only get £1 for this when you eventually try to sell it on Ebay, I'm still having a hard time selling a Blair Witch DVD which is actually decently designed and packed with extras. I'm not in the habit of wasting money or collecting shit that my sister could have designed better even though she doesnt know how to install Photoshop.

For the love of God, dont encourage them.

I think the point is sorta that he wants the DVD so he can watch the film, not to hang the cover up on his wall as art.

Yeah of course, but I'm just saying its still a waste of money as any self-respecting fan of film and DVD will buy a better version within 12 months, and have a hard time getting rid of this crap version. And there's a principle involved. And I'm poor which might explain a bit about my frugal attitude.

While cognizant has a point, somewhat, he fails to recognize that this is a Universal DVD, and their whole DVD department is more than well known for releasing the infamous Regular and then Limited Edition sets that sell out quicker than shit and leave the rest of us scrambling to purchase it for $65 on ebay.

Plus, given the rather tepid PR strategy Universal is subjecting the United States to, I'd suspect that they'd more than rather dump this on the consumer with a barebones release - which, by coincidence, is the same thing they're doing in the UK.

Even for a shit DVD cover, the movie's still the best film given to us viewers this year. I can live with it; it's the film I can't wait to add to the collection.

CDwow.com has it for £11.99 + free international shipping. Amazon.co.uk is £14.99 + shipping.

Well, I thought the film was an amazing achievement. A must see film that shows us what filmmaking in the digital age can do. A powerful message of hope in nihilistic times.

So yeah. I'm caving.

I'll just call you shallow and idiotic, if you don't mind.

Well all I can say is anyone who buys shit like this doesnt deserve to complain about douple-dip methods consisting of barebones DVDs with shitty covers. You're just fuelling it all. If you want to watch it so bad then just rent it now and then. Surely if sales for barebones DVDs are extremely low the fuckers will have no choice but to give us what we want, and in this day and age what we want is the format to be taken advantage of, not us consumers.

I'm not too clued up on which studios fuck around with us most, I havent bought DVDs regularly in years, so thanks for the heads up Yando. Guess there will be a Super Duper Unrated Miami Vice DVD at some point.

Who's complaining? I'm not complaining. By the nature of Region 2 releases I know this is a double-dip if I decide to get the Region 1.

Every. Single. One.

I was ready to pull the trigger and import this myself until Universal announced it as a future HD DVD release at CES. So I will wait.

Salivating for an HD-DVD, or any DVD for that matter, of this. I've seen this thrice in theatres, and would love to throw this on loop in my living room.
