Bush wants to check your mail for you...

No, President Bush isn't trying to do you any favors. President Bush wants to invade your privacy. According to an article in yesterday's New York Daily News, Bush gave himself permission to open people's mail without a warrant in "emergency situations".

The President asserted his new authority when he signed a postal reform bill into law on Dec. 20. Most of the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act deals with mundane reform measures. But it also explicitly reinforced protections of first-class mail from searches without a court's approval.

Yet in his statement Bush said he will "construe" an exception, "which provides for opening of an item of a class of mail otherwise sealed against inspection in a manner consistent ... with the need to conduct searches in exigent circumstances."

Bush cited as examples the need to "protect human life and safety against hazardous materials and the need for physical searches specifically authorized by law for foreign intelligence collection."

FUCK YOU BUSH!!!!! ASSHOLE NAZI!

I thought the whole "anthrax-in-the-mail" thing fizzled out 5 years ago?

While this is an invasion of privacy, it's not something that I would be terribly concerned about under another POTUS. However, I don't trust Bush with the power to ask a chick in a bar what her sign is.

Yeah, I could do something similar--both my mother's parents were born in Ireland, so I qualify for citizenship by descent, but the shit you got to go through to prove it would cost a couple grand AND take up to a year to process. It's something I will do someday, although I don't have it in me to fully renounce my US Citizenship. I like voting.

leaving isn't the answer. Although I'm Canadian, I went to school in the states and love the concept of the country if not the execution of it under Bush. The question becomes, what can the average citizen who is sick to fucking death of this big brother bullshit do about it? Does anyone really expect the dem's to repeal any of this?

Yeah, Bush has put that "signing exception" on nearly any bill that's passed in the last three or four years, so really, he can do anything in the name of the "war on terror". And to think, that's him being upfront. Imagine how many secrets he's not protecting with this signing exception bullshit.
