Jason Kidd: "Wife Abused Me"
NBA star seeks divorce, claims to be victim of "extreme cruelty"
JANUARY 10--Basketball star Jason Kidd, who was once arrested for domestic abuse, claims that his wife has turned the tables on him, forcing the New Jersey Net yesterday to file for divorce. The 33-year point guard alleges that wife Joumana has become "increasingly controlling and manipulative" over the past few years and has kick, hit, and punched him. According to the athlete's divorce petition, a copy of which you'll find below, Joumana's "extreme cruelty" also included throwing household objects at her husband. Kidd also alleges that she tried to monitor his whereabouts by placing tracking devices on his cars and stealing his cell phone from his locker. The complaint was filed in Bergen County Superior Court and will likely trigger a counterclaim by Joumana, according to Raoul Lionel Felder, one of her lawyers. In January 2001, the 6' 4" Kidd was arrested in Arizona for punching Joumana in the mouth during an argument apparently triggered by Kidd's consumption of a french fry from his young son's plate, according to a police report. Kidd later copped a plea and was ordered to attend anger management classes. In a 911 call to Paradise Valley police (which can be found here) Joumana told an operator that her husband, who then played for the Phoenix Suns, had a "bad history" of abusing her. "I told him that this would be the last time," Joumana claimed, "and he did, he popped me right in the mouth." (6 pages)

It's no fun when she can take the punch, huh, Kidd?

I wonder if the tracking devices and cell phone theft were related to her frustration at all the skanks he banged while she was (ostensibly) raising his kids.

Yeah because reporting an out of control spouse is the epitome of being a "pussy." I wonder if she had tied him up and raped him with a broom would you have titled the thread "Jason Kidd: He was asking for it."

This must have hit too close to home for B_Metal.

Awww suck my balls. One wrong doesn't make another o.k. Sounds to me like BOTH of them had some issues with anger. Convicted or not it doesn't give her the right to kick, hit, or throw shit at him. I love the mentality that women hitting men is excusable. How would you feel had he never touched her? Would it still be fine that she committed spousal abuse? Just curious.

Not at all. I just find it funny that people in this day and age still find it acceptable for a woman to hit a man. Whether it makes him less "manly" or whatever a woman hitting a man is still against the law so far as I know and any women who hits a man should be handled the same way the man would had he hit her.

Well i'm not an advocate of domestic abuse in any form but I found it ironic and karmic that Jason was the one who filed for divorce and claimed spousal abuse when it was documented that he was the one who got treatment for his domestic abuse " problems ".

This is a simple case of what goes around comes around.

So that's how things work in the world now? If someone does something to you then you have the right to do the same to them? I guess that's one way of looking at it, but the law says something else. It may be ironic and karmic but it's still illegal for anyone to abuse their spouse. Sorry if that riles you up but I don't think allowing either spouse to abuse the other is alright.

Being beaten by his wife doesn't make Kidd a pussy. Being a New Jersey Net does.

Thems fightin' words!

I hope the Nets aren't doing the fighting. Unless Jayson Williams is allowed to bring a shotgun.

I'm not sticking up for illegal behavior. I find it amusing is all. You want to pinch me or tell me to suck your balls again be my guest.

My problem isn't in the amusement you found with the situation it's the "he's a pussy for reporting his wife abusing him" part I don't care for. No one should be afraid to report an abusive spouse, whether they be man or woman, straight or gay.

I agree no one should be afraid to report abuse. Kidd could have called 911 and done something more than whine about abuse in his DIVORCE papers. If his wife is a psycho or has mental/emotional problems its important for him to take action so she can get help. Afterall this isn't his sister its the mother of his children.

Kidd is someone who has abused and I find it humorous.

Fair enough. You'd be surprised how few men will report abuse because of the label they'd receive from doing so. I have done some volunteer work with victims advocates when I was finishing my degree and you'd be surprised how many men are abused compared to how many report it. Granted far more women are abused but men do get abused by spouses, just very few will ever report it.

Perhaps he caused some damage upstairs when he gave her that innocent little punch in the mouth?

Poor Kidd.

Thats something I was thinking. Kidd might have created this monster himself. Nonetheless we'll never know.

They're divorce proceedings, of course they're going to make mention of abuse. What, should he talk about what a great wife she is while he's trying to pay her off with as little cash as possible?

She can certainly get the attention she needs for her anger problems with the money she'll receive out of this.

If Jim Rome is supporting Kidd on this, then it's obvious that Jason is the crazy rat-bastard here.

Attorney for Kidd's Wife Counters Abuse

Jan 10 4:57 PM US/Eastern

By BETH DeFALCO

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A day after Jason Kidd claimed in divorce papers to be a victim of spousal abuse, his wife's attorney said the New Jersey Nets point guard had no reason to fear the diminutive woman.
"He says he's threatened by her? He's a star athlete. She's 5-foot-2, I think, and 105 pounds," said celebrity New York divorce lawyer Raoul Felder, one of the attorneys representing Joumana Kidd.

"It's shameful what he did here. The truth will come out," said Felder on Wednesday, adding his client planned to file a counter compliant within a week.

The 33-year-old Kidd filed for divorce from his wife of 10 years Tuesday, a day after a court issued him a temporary restraining order against her.

In court papers, Kidd said his wife physically and mentally abused him, threatened to make false domestic violence complaints against him to police and interfered with his relationship with his children.

The papers accuse Joumana Kidd of kicking, hitting, punching and throwing household objects at her 6-foot-4, 210-pound husband as she became "increasingly controlling and manipulative" in the last few years of their marriage.

Monday night, Felder said police showed up at the couple's Saddle River estate and, instead of serving Joumana Kidd with the restraining order, forced her to leave.

"The police put her out of her own home, originally giving her 30 minutes to get out with the three children," Felder said. "It turns out the police misinterpreted the court's order."

Felder said Joumana Kidd's New Jersey attorney, Gary Newman, got a court order changing it Tuesday morning. "She stays in the house," Felder said. "If he wants to see the kids, he has to pick them up curbside, according to the order."

Calling her "a battered and harassed wife in every sense of the word," Felder said it was "absurd" to think that the former Budweiser model was the abuser in the relationship given Kidd's former domestic violence charge.

"He's going to have to deal with the real court and not the basketball court," Felder said.

The Kidds, married in 1997, were involved in a domestic violence matter six years ago when he played for the Phoenix Suns.

In that incident, Jason Kidd was arrested in January 2001 after Joumana told police he slapped her in the face during an argument about feeding their son, who is now 8. The couple also have 4-year-old twin daughters.

Kidd pleaded guilty to spousal abuse, was fined $200 and ordered to take anger-management training.

Kidd's complaint filed Tuesday, however, painted a detailed portrait of Joumana Kidd as a vitriolic, jealous and paranoid wife who suspected her husband was cheating and who was prone to public outbursts and threats.

"The defendant's extreme and unwarranted jealousy and rage has left the plaintiff concerned about her emotional stability," the papers say.

The papers accuse her of installing tracking devices on his cars and computers, of violent rages in public and in front of their children, and of harassing his trainer, friends and family.

Kidd live on the same street as Vince Carter, who's also going through marital problems. You know what this means- some people just can't be neat about swapping.

Kidd's wife is one crazy, power hungry bitch though. She constantly tries to get on camera and used to use their kid to do so. I would bet huge sums of money that she basically tricked or somehow manipulated Kidd to marry here in the first place. Are you guys aware of Doug Christie's wife? Christie was "not allowed" to go out with the team after games and I don't think he was even "allowed" to stay in the same hotel as the rest of the team on road trips. Truly amazing, I recommend some googling of her.

Googling her is what got Doug in the doghouse in the first place.
