Halle Berry Urges Fans to Write to Fox to Make X-Men 4

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Xmenfilms.net has posted the transcript of what Halle Berry said to the audience, when she won the "Favorite Female Action Star" at the People's Choice Awards. The actress reached out to all X-Men fans to write letters to 20th Century Fox to let them know that people want to see X-Men 4:

"I had no idea you guys loved Storm so much! Wow, thank you, thank you. I want to thank Tom Rothman for allowing me to play Storm, and Brett Ratner for allowing Storm to finally use her cape and fly this year." said Halle Berry at yesterday's People's Choice Awards.

"But I have something to ask you guys. You guys really love X-Men? Ok, here's what you have to do. Write letters. Every one of you in this building who love X-Men and want to see X-Men 4, write a letter to Tom Rothman at Fox and tell him so and you will get another one, and I'll be there too."

You can write or e-mail 20th Century Fox regarding X4 at:

20th Century Fox Theatricals
ATTN: Tom Rothman (X-Men 4)
P.O. Box 900
Beverly Hills, CA 90213-0900
foxmovies@fox.com
I mainly like this story because of the "(X-Men 4)" in the Tom Rothman address. For some reason I get a kick out of that.

That and the fact that Berry seems to be pandering for work.

She just won a People's Choice award! A People's Choice award! I think she's set for life at this point.
Or am I overestimating the power of this mighty award?

This is really a slap in the face to all the people who were petitioning for Catwoman 2.

God I hated Storm in those movies.
She just wants to be the fricken lead in X4. And I hope no one gives her that chance.
Well, so long as Hugh Jackman can wear a wife-beater and sport that funky hair-do there's no way in hell she's ever going to be the lead in any X-men film.

Yeah, but who knows what Rothman will do next.
I think he should change his name to Wrathman and be a supervillain.

I'll watch X-Men 4 if Storm gets her jubblies out.

Gambit wasn't introduced into the X-Men until the early 90s, and he never really picked up a huge amount of popularity like Wolverine did.

They stuck with the originals, for the most part, and grounded the movies in that.

Besides, a huge chunk of Gambit's storyline in the comic books is his romance with Rogue and the rest of it is his involvement with Mr. Sinister. Neither of those would have worked out too well for these movies.

Ergo, no Gambit.

More Storm?

Thank you very much Global Warming. Now go away.

What I find interesting is that she actually thanked Rothman for letting her play Storm, shouldn't that honor go to Bryan Singer?

She's put waaaay too much faith in geeks to mount a grass roots campaign like this, or her fans at this point, assuming she still has any.

Which makes it seem that Singer might have had nothing to do with casting her as Storm anyway. It could have been Rothman all along, considering the treatment he gave Singer on both X-Men films.

This even more stupid considering her bad attitude when she was making the first film. She was cast as Storm, then won a Golden Globe for "Dorothy Dandridge", and subsequently, most of her interviews and press were pretty much along the lines of "Um, yeah, I'm in this comic book movie, it's silly" type shit. She was embarassed to have anything to do with it until it became a surprise hit, then she wanted to rip them for more money for a sequel. She likes "X-Men" now because its the only thing she's got going.

Storm is boring in the movies, but a pretty interesting character in the books.

Gambit is just boring.

I have to agree;Storm in the films is not have as interesting as in the comics.
I don't understand the passion for Gambit. He is just a standard issues "Charming Rogue"(no reference intended to The X Man charcter Rogue)
that has been popular in literature like forever.
I would much rather see Kitty Pryde get a bigger role in the films. It kind of puzzling she had such a small role since she is one of the more popular X men.

Storm is boring, and Halle is horrible as her, and is horrible in a wide range of films, but...

I just can't bring myself to slam Halle Berry. I'm not sure why. Pity? Her real-life mutant power must be that it's impossible to hate her.

One day, there will be a thread on the X-Men movies without some sad sack coming in to lament the lack of Gambit in them. Honestly, one of the plus points of The Last Stand was that they still hadn't used Gambit. I'd give it a thumbs up if only for that reason alone. Gambit is an awful character. Let's move on, fanboys.

Personally, I wouldn't mind an X-Men 4, provided they come up with some decent ideas of their own. They need to start getting away from comics lore and exist in their own world.

No way, it should be the exact opposite. I want the X-Men to seek magical crystals and battle alien empires and visit the Savage Land and generally stop hanging around inside gloomy blue-tinted "facilities".

They always harp on about how "OMG it's about perescution!!! teens and gays cna relatew to it OMG!!!", when in fact it's about likeable, unique characters with strange powers hanging out together and getting into colourful adventures. No more, no less.

Actually, it is quite a bit more. I'm not saying it's Shakespeare, and they were always more or less about goofballs in tights, but there were always undercurrents about Civil Rights, the Holocaust, AIDS, etc. The movies chose to accentuate this, and it worked remarkably well (until X3's troubled production, anyway).

The kind of whimsy you talk about is more appropriate for the Fantastic Four, or, as I've said before, the Avengers, if and when they make it.

This is why I never read X-Men or Marvel as a kid, I didn't understand the concept behind the characters for the longest time because they were aways mired in alternate realities, alien demigods, Prehistoric adventures, or somesuch nonsense. In fact, I don't own a single X-Men comic outside of Grant Morrison's run; and that's solely because of my love for Morrison, not the characters.

If I didn't know you all-too-well Paul, I'd swear you were being sarcastic. But hey, this is the perfect mindset for the guy who thinks Roger Moore was the best James Bond. I think you're completely wrong, but you're too damn fun.

What you're saying is very true of the original X-Men comics, before Len Wein resurrected it. Wein, and to a greater extent, Claremont, really cemented the alienated youth vibe that made the comics readers latch onto it so madly. Yes, it still had the fun, weird elements that it had always had, but the "loneliness of being different and persecuted" angle was what made the teenagers eat it up. The same is true of the movies. If they drop that, it's just another superhero/action franchise.

Anyway, my point was just that sticking to events that happened in the comics hasn't been all that good for them. They created a sub-par depiction of the Dark Phoenix storyline, which wasn't really necessary anyway. I'd rather see them cook up their own situations for the reality that's been established in the movies before we wind up being subjected to painful crap like The Brood and Apocalypse.

Hey, as long as they get in more Multiple Man, I'm happy. Seriously, every time I see that guy grin, I gotta grin along. That's one charming ass actor.

I think that guy became a McSomething on "Grey's Anatomy".
