Devin, you forgot to mention how all that firing of guns over shoulders was AWESOME.
He's writing a remake of Westworld?! GODDAMNIT!

*throws own Westworld remake spec script into trash bin*
post #4 of 42
Edit- sorry double post
Well, I'm still a fan (as is everyone I've exposed to Equilibrium).
Though yes, apparently I must keep as a dark secret the fact that I like UV too (not as much as the first one, ok, but still I like it).

Hope he'll have the chance to direct again, and with a decent budget and a professional crew to support (I mean from the special effects guys to the editors, and so on)

Countdown to an appearance by JenG in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Countdown to Septim being banned in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

I wonder if Septim is Countess Anna's autistic little brother.

Anyone else first thought that mound of white powder was cocaine? That's what I was thinking until I later read it involved some character named Salt.
I don't know. If you replace the word "salt" with "cocaine" in the article this suddenly sounds like a freakishly better movie.

Wimmer's one of those directors I think should pull back for a bit, like Jackson. Now you're thinking, "what can he pull back too? Steven Seagal videos? Well, yes. I'm sorry, no final edit for UV or not the guy's still shaky on his basics.
Edwin A. Cocaine - CIA Agent.

Ya know that sounds better already.
This is very OT, and I apologise but it has to be said.
Septim: your signature sucks balls, that might be what's pissing people off. Something smaller in a non-heinous color, perhaps?
the name septic would be more appropriate. Well I'm sure Wimmer was increcibly lucky with Equilibrium. Imagine Equlibrium with Milla Jovovich instead of Bale? In that case it would probably suck as hard as Ultraviolet.
at this point, wimmer is a one hit wonder. fuck ultraviolet and all his talk about being kept out of the editing room. nothing could save that film. it was terrible before it went to the editing room.

fuck you kurt wimmer. fuck you for making me believe in you.
I have no sympathy for people who believed in Mr Wimmer after watching Equilibrium.

I'm getting the feeling of deja vu with that line. I swear I read that before on this board many months ago...

It's real vivid too cause cause it's so geeky that it actually ends up being real funny.

I'll just chime in here to say that UV was nowhere near as bad as the geek Internet-dom said it was (Transporter 2 was far far far far far far far far worse). I also find it funny too that there are people that think that horrible wannabe Tony Scott film Crank was great despite it being quite an obnoxious turd of a film (and the worst waste of a matinee priced ticket I could remember) but bash UV as one of the worst movies. UV I thought was ok (the theatrical cut that is, didn't see the Unrated version on DVD) and actually could feel that the movie would work a lot better had the original cut got to see the day of light. Hopefully the fanbase Wimmer already built with the excellent Equilibrium will push for that day to one day come.

Anyway...please continue...

Well IMO Transporter 2, Crank, UV belong on the same shelf. The shitshelf!

Well, it looks as though Dave Davis is moving to JoBlo.

I just may have to follow him since for the most part film discussion around here often seems to be the emotional level of a frat boy who thinks a poor film is the equivalent of been raped.

When one cannot discuss films or filmmakers without the juvenile bravado and insults following from one thread to another then CHUD has lost it's edge. Unfortunately this is not due to it's writers but the fact that too often people are reluctant of a discussion or expressing their point of view here.

We'll all miss your impassioned, reasonless defences of skullfuckingly bad films, JenGe. Godspeed.

"Equilibrium, was a cult film at best. And I think it may have been a CHUD-only cult."

Hardly...

Bye Devin, we rarely agreed but I've found my debates with you thrilling and intelligent. I actually miss them now that you have been writing more for the site and I busy with my sites. I will continue to read your columns and give CHUD as many "clicks" a day as I can. Thank you.
JenGe, this isn't Livejournal. If you're gonna do us all a favor and stop existing around here, just go ahead. Stop making a huge exit for yourself.

In my country the same people who speak big words about, say, tolerance, respect, cultures, rights, the value of opinions, usually end up being the worst examples about the values they profess.

Sadly, this place is no different, at least in attitude.
I'm "intolerant" in real life, a money-driven, cold-blooded right winged bastard, yet I *can* debate something like a movie without feeling the need of proving my intelligence or valour (which I prefer to do -and do- in real life), and I can even listen to the others' points of view (at times).
It felt somewhat funny, the first times I visited this site, being accused of idiocy and all for stating that I did (expect to) like UV.

This tells a lot about this place, and it is sad, for sparks of fresh intelligence can be detected here now and then, I admit.
But habits die hard, it seems. And habits are alike everywhere.

You guys are starting to rival the Christian Far Right as the most annoyingly self-righteous bunch of martyrs in the world today. And that's no mean feat. I like how you seem to hold being able to discuss movies politely on the internet in higher esteem than being a decent human being in everyday life, though. Nice.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all film is created equal."

I have a dream that one day the films of Jean Renoir and John Cassavetes and the films of Andy Sidaris and Al Adamson will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the films of Steven Seagal, an oeuvre sweltering with the heat of being rather lame, sweltering with the heat of suckiness, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that Ultraviolet, Biker Boyz, The Da Vinci Code and Freedomland will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their relative quality but by the people who insist they are good because they enjoyed them.

I have a dream today.
Oh, that Moltisani.

CHUD.com has destroyed my faith in human society, which I must now shun for ever and ever. Goodbye, cruel world!

Well I think being intolerant, money-driven and cold-blooded is fair, and I'm pretty "decent" at that.
I guess I'm often decent even by your standards, it's just that I don't feel I have to, by principle.

Here it goes again.
How intelligent of you.
And mature.
You won.
Happy?
Here's a lesson Dev, intelligence and energies CAN be wasted.

I would definitely be interested in a Kurt Wimmer-directed Westworld remake providing he is reigned in a little and "gun-kata" is not worked into the film. I have nothing against his fondness for it, but it does not belong in Westworld.
