Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Holy shit. If you, like myself, are stupid and have never seen this film, SEE IT. Easily in my top 10 horror movies of all time. That whole videotaped scene made me sick to my stomach. I can't remember the last time I felt sick to my stomach watching a horror movie. Brutal, uncomprimising stuff. And Michael Rooker is just amazing. "Oh, that's right, I stabbed her."

I've been sitting on the sequel for probably 6 months now because I'm afraid. Afraid of where they could take this classic.

Nothing but love for this film. Now do you get the love for the Rook, Ripoll?

Oh definitely. He was good in Slither, but this is another level. Any other must-see Rooker performances I should check out?

It's not a Rooker film, but go take a look at Man Bites Dog (C'est arrivé près de chez vous). It has Henry beaten by a mile in the disturbing stakes - it's about a serial killer being trailed around by a documentary film crew, who gradually become complicit in his kills. Plus it's a pretty sharp black comedy.

Yeah, it's on my queue. I definitely need to see that at least before I see Leslie Vernon.

It's not horror but there's good Rooker to be had in ROGUE FORCE. A low-rent HEAT knock-off with Rooker as a cop trying to track down a vigilante squad led by Robert Patrick.

For good dramatic Rooker there's EIGHT MEN OUT. He's one of many doing nice work in a terrific cast.

Supporting-wise there's almost too many to mention. You've probably seen CLIFFHANGER but that's a favorite of mine. If you want to see him get extremely up close and personal with Al Pacino there's SEA OF LOVE.

The Dark Half is a severely underrated Stephen King adaptation with some fine subdued Rookerage.

Beat me to it...I just need it on DVD.
My favourite bit is where the two filmcrews meet (I DON'T THINK THAT'S TOO SPOILERISH, BUT IT MIGHT BE)...This film is also VERY graphic and much more disturbing than Henry.
(spoiler)]...The 'filmmakers' "join-in" for one of the atrocities...and whilst I could go on about 'tits and ass' at this point, it's 'tits and ass' in a very real, rape kinda way...

Has anyone here seen the 'Henry' sequel?
How was it? (like I had to ask...)

It sucked buffalo cock. Seriously, keep away at all costs.

Seeing Henry is one of my fondest cinema memories. I saw both Henry and The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and Her Lover in the same night at the Anjelika theater in NYC.

Henry works so well for me because it feels so realistic. I think it's one of the contributing factors to my obsession with security and being leary of strangers. Hell to this day I won't stop and get out of my car to help a stranded motorist because of it.

Now that's a double bill.

(Also, like others here, needs to see Man Bites Dog)

Finally saw this. I had to buy it to do so, and while I ended up selling it, I did really like it. That ending was so fucking great. It was one of those things where you're a little confused by what's happening, but then it hits you in the face when you realize what occurred. Really good stuff. I'd like to see it again, but it's not something I needed to own.

Henry is the best movie ever made about a serial killer and Rooker is masterful in it. Robert McNaughton was touched by the muse with this one, without a doubt. A lot of people like their serial killers somewhat whimsical, poetical or as evil geniuses with master plans, but hitting the truth about them is incredibly rare. Also worth mentioning if realism is your taste: William Friedkin's Rampage, based on the demented serial killer Richard Chase, and the TV movie that starred Mark Harmon as Ted Bundy.

Agree that Rooker is fantastic in The Dark Half, which I just watched for the billionth time on cable. He's also great as Arnold's foil in The Sixth Day.
