White House Spokesman Blasts Sen. Boxer's Exchange With Secretary Rice

WASHINGTON — The White House fired back Friday at Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer's verbal slap at Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, calling the California Democrat's caustic comments about Rice's family life "outrageous."

Boxer lit into Rice on Thursday with bitter diatribe during a heated line of questioning before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee looking into Iraq policies. At one point, Boxer turned to the broad question of who pays the ultimate price for war. Rice has never married and has no children.

"Who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price. My kids are too old and my grandchild is too young," Boxer said. "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family. So who pays the price? The American military and their families."

Does that seem offensive to anyone? Because I've been trying to see how it's offensive and I just CAN'T. Boxer is telling the truth, she's not ripping on Condi for not having kids. No surprise, this article came from Fox News, where it's a huge deal.

P.S. Bitter diatribe????

That wasn't even a comment about Rice's family life.

It's a stupid comment that distracts from the real issues.

Really? I think the real issue is that people who have nothing to risk put other people in harm's way for their ideological causes and fiscal gain. That seems like a huge issue to me.

Only in our current political climate can an altogether relevant comment be looked at as as an insidious attack.

Sen. McCain is a war veteran and has a son who is a Marine (that has gone or is going to Iraq), does that mean his position on the "surge" is more valid?

The idea is not a good one in itself, Boxer's little dig there is just silly at best.

Funny that there is no outcry over Laura Bush's recent comment in People magazine about Condi's personal life:

Quote:
Dr. (Condoleezza) Rice, who I think would be a really good candidate, is not interested. Probably because she is single, her parents are no longer living, she's an only child. You need a very supportive family and supportive friends to have this job.
I guess if your Republican you can comment all you want about another party member's private life but a Democrat does it and people are outraged.

Rove is off his game. Boxer makes a cogent point that most people probably agree with. It's a perfectly fine talking point for the robots that need something fresh to say, but anyone even remotely on the fence will see through it.

I thought that Boxer was giving it to Condi for working for an administration that won't allow her to have a family.

So Rice is gay, then?

No, because he's a Neo-Con hack.
