Anybody Reading Blade's New Series?

I was just wondering if anybody else is following this series. I think it'd be right up the alley of many CHUD regulars. It's a really fun series and really nails the character. Marc Guggenheim is doing a great job writing and Howard Chaykin's art is sooooo good. The latest issue was pretty cool, and was a tie-in with Wolverine's Civil War arc (which is easily one of the best parts of Civil War). Really nailed Wolverine, too.

Basically, this series has it all...fun, action-packed stories, great art, and a great main character. What do you think?

I just read the latest one. I didn't like that the cover didn't happen in the book at all. Grumble.

Yeah, but what do you expect? Comic covers are notoriously unreliable at previewing what actually happens in the book itself. I still think it's a great cover and lets you know that Blade and Wolvie are gonna come to blows in it. I really liked their fight, although I didn't like Blade thinking they're evenly matched. I suppose he would think that himself, but without a doubt Wolverine would fuck him up. Just look at the position they were in at the end. Sure Blade had a neat idea how to finally kill Wolverine, but Wolverine just need to do a quick decapitating swipe from the position he was in and that's all, good night Blade!

I'm really really liking this Marc Guggenheim guy. Want to see more of him, and I was very excited he's going to be back on the Wolverine main series when Jeph Loeb is off it. I'd also like to see him tackle some of the Origins stuff.

BTW, what did you think of the issue itself?

I'm with it, but I'm a Chaykin completist. Be interesting to see Chaykin's take on Blade after Bite Club.

I read #4 the other day, and I liked the posessed Santa stuff.
WHAT'S HE DOING TO BILL??
I also liked the online dating bit in #3. And yes, Chaykin's doing a good job.

One of Marvel's most fun books and yeah Guggenhiem is going to get me to pick up The Flash again after the OYL misfire...so here's hoping for more goodness.

Guggenheim is working for Marvel and DC? Interesting.

Anyway, if you guys like this current Blade series (especially the latest issue with Wolverine), I highly recommend his Civil War Wolverine stuff. Really fuckin' good, and fun too.

Yeah, I'm curious to who's going to snatch him up for exclusive first, my money is Marvel will since he's done more work there...but hey who knows.

My guess would be Marvel too, and it's not just wishful thinking on my part. As far as I know, Marvel is much more aggressive about tacking people down to them, and on top of that, Guggenheim is on Blade for the foreseeable future and will be taken Wolverine back from Jeph Loeb apparently.

Yep. Fuck Jeph Loeb.

Guggenheim is going to do some DC stuff on The Flash, while Loeb is on Wolverine from Issue 50 for what looks to be a six issue arc.

The new Blade Marvel series is decent. It's just not a book that has really set the world on fire. I give it another 6 to 9 months before it gets canned.

Blade #5, the CW tie-in, did really well, apparently.

All low sale titles did well due to Civil War. Hell, check out the number spikes on the She-Hulk and Black Panther for other examples.

The long-run test is keeping numbers within a healthy range until the summer months.

Try to think positive.
