Does anyone else love the dick out of this movie like I do?

Just about my favorite film ever made. So yeah.

Howard Hawks? Check.
Billy Wilder? Check.
Gary Cooper? Check.
Barbara Stanwyck, in one of her finest roles? Check.

A great film, with a smart script, and a wonderful cast. Just magnificent.

A few questions:

1) Why isn't there a DVD in print for this movie?

2) Why on Earth would Billy Wilder be unhappy with the work Hawks did here?

3) Gary Cooper: Best ever at playing a cuckold*-type?

*I know cuckold isn't the right term here, but the only other term that came close to what I am trying to convey was 'dupe' and using that made me feel like a gangster in the '40's.

Unsure. It plays regularly on TCM in a pretty nice, (widescreen, I believe) print. I have a feeling that this is definitely in store for a new release when more Billy Wilder stuff starts hitting DVD (such as Ace in the Hole, A Foreign Affair, and The Major and the Minor).

Is he? I never knew that.

I finally, FINALLY saw this on Turner Classic yesterday. What a magnificent film. Gary Cooper is one of my Golden Age blind spots, so I was floored by the quality of his comedic acting. Stanwyck, of course, is a delight.

There was one moment that seemed very Un-Wilderesque: When the group is sitting around the song dedicated to Professor Oddly's late wife. It seemed almost maudlin compared to Wilder's usual cynicism, but I thought it was movingly under-played by the cast.

Thanks, Damon, for putting this on my radar.

Also available via Netflix instant, btw.
