Great news: I'm running a 40k marathon in December '07!

Yep, it's official. I'm registered in the Canadian Arthritis Society's Joints in Motion program. I'll be competing in the 2007 New Las Vegas Marathon. It'll be one hell of a year of change and it will be a challenge training for it. Unfortunately I need to raise about $3,900 for it. I have some things in motion with some bands I know and I'm planning a garage sale in the summer. I'm going to ask friends if they have anything that they can give. I might also sell some stuff on eBay. I'm also looking into a bikini car wash. I just don't know where I could hold it and I'll probably get sued if I ask some random hot chicks to get in a bikini for me.

Anyways, I know I'll seem like a shill now but if you would like to donate (much appreciated even if it's like $5 or something) just send me a PM and I'll get back to you.

Thanks again! And I'll probably be starting up a blog to keep track of my training and fund raising.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Eileen again.
Thank you Eileen! I didn't actually think people would start donating so early. This is awesome!

Not to sway anyone or anything... but you do get a tax receipt for donations of $15 or more. Though I'm not sure how that works with U.S. members. I assume you can still claim it. I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed too.

I wish you nothing but the best of luck...my lungs are already wheezing in agony on your behalf.

I'm cheap... but there's $5... you better win the race though.

Best of luck raising the cash and training!

Thank you for the donation! I'll try and win the race if I don't die of heat exhaustion first....

Awesome! Best of luck to you.

I used to run cross country in high school, and for fun/to stay in shape in college... but man, I can't imagine myself running a marathon. The most I was ever running was 5-7 miles 6 days a week.

I wish you the best of luck, and it's great that it is also for a good cause.

You should see a donation from my end pretty soon, I'm just waiting on my new Debit card to come in...but good luck, my friend.

You will surely need it.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to start a NHL Stanley Cup pool? I've searched the internet (my abilities to search suck) and all I can find are internet fantasy sites. I figure when the 300 teams are set to play in the playoff I get people to sign up with a team and pay $2 or $3 to enter. If they get kicked out in the first round T.S.

It would be a 50/50 draw. So lets say Bob picks Carolina and Joe picks Edmonton. If Carolina won the Cup Bob would 50% of the profits from the pool.

This is really the only easy way I can figure as to make a pool for the Stanley Cup.

40k...I thought 'k' meant a thousand...but a thousand what?
Inches, meters, feet, miles, kilometers...
Give us more info!!

The 'k' means kilometers. Sorry, Canada has the metric system. So it's a 40 kilometer run. It's actually 42 (my estimation of converting 26 miles to kilometers was off).

Bumping this mainly because I'm excited that my Oscar Pool at my moms work and my work went really well. Plus it got the word out about what I'm doing and some people at work (some hot chicks actually) seemed pretty interested in what I was doing. Or they were just bored and wanted to kill some time by talking to someone. But I'll pretend that they were actually interested.

It was a 50/50 pool so the winner at my moms work is receiving $36.50 and the winner at my work is receiving $33.50. All in all I was able to put $70 towards the fund raising. I was selling ballots as one for $3 and two for $5 and you could enter as many times as you wanted to. One guy I work with (who has signed up for the same program I have and is competing in the Athens, Greece marathon) bought 8 ballots and put down $20. Too bad he lost. He was close though.

So I'm into my training now. Running three days a week with long runs on Saturday. Lifting lite weights four days a week (probably will switch to three) and doing some cross training on my non-run days which consists of spin bikes, walking or swimming. Or all three.

Fund raising is going slow but I'm confident I'll reach my goal.

Fun times ahead!

Congratulations, Brendan. It's really an amazing task you're taking on, and all to benefit other people, which is even more admirable. As soon as I have some moolah to toss your way, I'll really try to chip in.

Thanks Lisa! I'm having a big garage sale this Saturday so hopefully I can raise alot of dough out of that. Some neighbours and friends have donated lots of stuff for it too. I'm also going to try and plan a car wash sometime within the next few weeks.

The thought of driving twenty five miles tires me. Good luck and don't be like that Iron Man guy from the Powerade commercials, but if you are make sure you tape it.
