What is there to look forward to?We all get our scoops from various sites,so I'm sure we've all missed some things.

Everyone loves their Twin Peaks season 2.
I just heard about the 1942 ARABIAN NIGHTS Febuary 6th.
I remember in some interview with whatever studio owns it,DARK OF THE SUN is set to be released this year!!!I can't wait.
and I e-mailed Criterion and ARMY OF SHADOWS is on their upcoming release for 2007.
and personally I really love mitchum's work in THE YAKUZA.

Word up.

Criterion: Yojimbo/Sanjuro next week. Bicycle Thief next month. The Naked City in March.

February: The Departed (will probably get double dipped), The Prestige.

March: Borat (will probably get double dipped), Casino Royale

The Kubrick Special Editions in October. Cool Hand Luke SE. I wish I remembered all the other titles on WHV's calendar.

Hopefully they'll announce the reissue of Twin Peaks S1 with the pilot so I can finally buy it.

The Monster Squad is apparently finally getting released on DVD in 2007 (according to an interview with Don May, although he has nothing to do with the actual release), so that's my #1 of the freaking year.

Of all time I go with DIE HARD. Up pretty high, and my favorite crime drama, is HEAT.

THE DEPARTED was brought up and I'll definitely be getting that one. I don't think it will be double-dipped anytime soon as it's being released on both a single disc and a two-disc special edition.

BLU-RAY!

Actually, while I have rented some Blu-ray discs, I refuse to buy any when they're double the price of regular dvds. I was going to get Crank on BD but it was like 30 vs 15 on reg dvd. With the cost of the players they should make the discs the same price as regular.

Isn't From Beyond coming out this year?

I've been waiting for that to come out on DVD for quite a while now.

Right on.As of now I think HEAT's still in my all time top 3...right after 1. RIFIFI and 2. TERMINATOR 2...strange addition to any man's list i know.

I think they figure if you're able to drop $500-$1000 on a disc player, you can afford $30 discs.

Hey, back when DVD was first out, they were that much.

Indeed. This is something of a holy grail. Very very exciting for cinephiles, and all of you not versed in Jodo will have your minds blown. These DVD's will be a MUST.

Still in the air about that. I believe they're gonna show "The Holy Mountain" theatrically first, at least in NYC.

With the exception of The Fountain and The Departed, U93 and Children of Men are Universal titles whom exclusively distribute to HD-DVD.

Even though Warners were one of the last to abandon snap-cases, I have to admit, I think they've done a great job with their DVD releases--both new and classic--in the past few years. The "releasing both editions at once" is a good move as long as you don't buy the wrong edition--something that's happened to me a couple of times, with CONSTANTINE and BATMAN BEGINS.

Now, if we could only get a new release of L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.

Also, Branagh's 'Hamlet' on DVD is very, very cool.

The first release of LA Confidential was pretty good (despite the lack of a DTS track, which is the usual Warner way), if i remember correctly. I'd have to check the specs of it in my collection, it's been awhile.

Got my Host today...loved it.

Rath, there's talk of a 10th anniversary L.A. CONFIDENTIAL SE, so that'll probably be out next year.

Warner Bros is also rumoured to have a couple of cool special editions in the works - DELIVERANCE, EXCALIBUR and POLTERGEIST are on my wishlist. And, of course, I'm gagging for a fully-loaded BLADE RUNNER package.

You know what needs a special edition, though? RISKY BUSINESS.

(And maybe THE LAST BOY SCOUT...)

Also eagerly awaiting the uncut FROM BEYOND. And it'd be killer if Subversive gave Richard Stanley's HARDWARE the same deluxe treatment as DUST DEVIL.

Boy have we got some great DVD news for you film geeks today! ABKCO Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment have just announced a pair of titles that we've been waiting for on DVD since Day One of this format... El Topo and The Holy Mountain! No kidding! Anchor Bay will release a special limited edition collector's box set, The Films of Alejandro Jodorowsky, on DVD on 5/1 (SRP $49.98). The set will contain El Topo, The Holy Mountain and Fando Y Lis on DVD, fully restored and remastered from new HD transfers in anamorphic widescreen video, with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 audio. The box set will also include 2 music CDs containing the soundtracks for El Topo and The Holy Mountain, as well as a DVD of Jodorowsky's never-before-released first film, La Cravate. El Topo and The Holy Mountain will also be available separately (SRP $24.98 each). The El Topo DVD will contain audio commentary by the director, the original theatrical trailer (with English voice-over), a 2006 on-camera interview with the director as well as an exclusive new interview, a photo gallery and original script excerpts. The Holy Mountain DVD will include audio commentary with the director, deleted scenes with commentary, the original theatrical trailer (with English voice-over), the Tarot short with commentary, a restoration process short, restoration credits, a photo gallery and original script excerpts. Fando Y Lis will include audio commentary with the director and the La Constellation Jodorowsky documentary. Subtitles on the discs will be available in English, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Awesome news indeed! To which Todd adds, "Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!" and faints dead away in shock. This is, you see, his long awaited Holy Grail of DVD.
May 1st is going to kick 27 different kinds of ass.

do we have confirmation on kubrick, because i need my ultra-violence
post #35 of 35
Warner Home Video confirmed the Kubrick SEs were in the works during their last chat at Home Theater Forum. As far as the October date goes, I'm not sure that's been etched in stone yet. But the first wave of Kubrick SEs (2001, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, THE SHINING, EYES WIDE SHUT) have been in the works for quite some time, so we should be seeing them this year. I would hope.
