Possible Civil War spoiler?

It might not be related to Civil War, it might also be a "What If ..." story, either way you've been warned:

Huh ???

I don't think so considering we've seen the post-Civil War Iron Man in images from the upcoming 'Mighty Avengers' title.

If it is true, I will abandon Marvel.

That's what I thought, but interesting nonetheless. There's been some speculation Steve Rogers dies, or Stark dies, it's definitely not fan-art.

Latest article in newsarama indicate The New Avengers are still "rebels" and hunted down by the authorities and the "Mighty Avengers" so the real spoiler for me is that the anti-reg side seems to lose, and that Civil War #7 seems to not resolve anything!

Yeah that's what I was confused about, too. It seems pretty obvious the registration side is going to win, so what the hell is going to happen in Civil War #7? A big fight and the anti-reg guys lose and that's it? That sounds really fucking shitty. It'd be different had the story been going differently, but the way it has the anti-regs have to win for it to be worth noting whatsoever. If they don't, this is just a series where they introduced the registration act and that's fuckin' it. They could have done that in a single issue.

or is Steve Rogers going to live and wear armor again (yet he did it before, it was stupid)

How can anyone complain about the anti-reg losing Civil War? That's awesome, and for once it creates an honest to God change in the Marvel universe. We're always promised that will happen in these cross-overs, but this time they meant it! The thing is that in a year or two things will be normal again (or sooner - I think World War Hulk will fix it all), but in the meantime it creates a new status quo where interesting stories can be told. And who expects the "good guys" to lose at the end of a big cross-over? I think it's fantastic.

I just have to wonder, how the fuck do they lose? Pro Reg has got, like, three big timers in its ranks.

That's a good point, and yes it might make for some interesting stories. I'm just wondering what the Civil War series is all about then, 7 issues just so we have the same out of character heroes hunting down their friends? I guess I just have a to be a bit more patient, but hopefully something happens in issue 7.

I actually love the concept of the registration side winning, it's just the way the story has been told, there's nothing to it if it happens.

Here's the story if they do win...Stamford happens and the SHRA is passed. Some heroes fight against it and lose. The SHRA sticks around. How is that a fucking story? It's not.

Like I said, if this had been done in one issue, that'd be fine, but it was drawn out into seven to make as much money as possible.

A clever editorial staff would have had the single issue instituting the act, and the rest of the story told throughout the individual books it affected. This is only partially how it happened, considering the emphasis on the main title, which has ironically become the least necessary part of the damn crossover. Fucking lame.

Something interesting better happen in #7 beyond the anti-registration side losing (which they already have in the first place) to make the main series worth a damn.

EDIT: Jesus fuck I hate being used to being remembered on my own computer. Smeagol again.

Every time I see this thread title, I think, "The North wins."

And it's killing me.

...

Is this a joke?

That art truly sucks. Marc Silvestri is a fucking hack, at least these days.

I'm with Devin here. This all sounds genuinely interesting and cool.

The picture, though... ?

Once again, I don't think anybody thinks the idea of the registration forces winning isn't an interesting one. However, the story as it's been told is a complete pile of shit if they just win, which they already have considering the SHRA was passed and everybody who said it sucks had to go underground. How is the main title changing this if the registration side just wins it all AGAIN? It's a weak story like that because it's 7 issues of jerking you around.

But, we don't have issue 7. I see your point to a degree, but I think the idea of doing this story in a decentralized manner is even MORE of an editorial nightmare than running a big crossover would be normally. However, I have a hard time believing that Millar doesn't have something big up his sleeve for us, if only because he's been the most succesful writer in terms of "event" comics over the last few years. If the story is just a fight where the anti-reg heroes lose, I'll probably be willing to concede a little more ground to you.

All that being said, it will never touch the near record-breaking levels of embarrassing storytelling that D.C. has managed with its run from ID Crisis through Infinite Crisis. THAT was hack writing virtually from front to back. (Actually, issues 1 and 4 of infinite crisis were pretty good.)

I'm definitely holding out hope for issue seven, and I know I'm making presumptions, but given the way these things usually go I wouldn't be surprised to be right.

I'm mostly just preparing for the worst and lowering the hell out of my expectations.

EDIT: It should be pointed out I was a staunch advocate of the Civil War series and most of its tie-ins until we started getting terrible bits of potential spoilage like this.

As for that artwork...It almost remind me more of the Citizen V costume.

As for the anti-reg losing...well yeah, that's been rather apparent with all the post civil war stuff anyways.

Issue 7 - will be a major fight scene and the casulties will be significant on both sides I'm assuming...and hey who knows, maybe it'll tie in on the conspiracy theories surrounding the war from the spin-off books.

I doubt it though.

If Steve or Tony died you can pretty much guarantee they'll be back in a year, seeing as how there is an Iron Man movie in 2008, and a Capt America movie probably in 2009.

I don't think either are going to die. It looks like Tony is sticking around as SHIELD chief and Cap is probably...*sigh*...the new 'Ronin'.
