Billboard is reporting this rumor so take it with a grain of salt.

Morello Goes Solo, Rage To Reunite?
January 19, 2007, 5:05 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Guitarist Tom Morello takes the mic for the first time on "One Man Revolution," his debut album as the Nightwatchman. Due April 24 via Epic, the 13-track set was produced by Brendan O'Brien and sports acoustic-based compositions that are a far cry from the heavy guitar rock Morello has purveyed in Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave.

The artist has been utilizing the Nightwatchman moniker for the past three years for performances, and has of late been hosting a Tuesday night residency at Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe. Among the guests that have dropped by recently are System Of A Down's Serj Tankian, Cypress Hill's Sen Dog and Perry Farrell.

Morello will tour this spring, including an appearance at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, in mid-March. But perhaps of most interest to hardcore fans are rumors that Rage Against The Machine may be reuniting for the first time in six-plus years to play the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival this spring.

An event spokesperson was not available for comment on the possibility of a Rage performance.

After Rage split in 2000, Morello formed Audioslave with his old band's rhythm section of Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk. However, Audioslave is on hiatus while frontman Chris Cornell records a solo album and has no plans to tour in support of its third album, "Revelations," released last fall.

And while Audioslave refused to play Rage songs live on its early tours, the band eventually began incorporating them into its sets in summer 2005.

As for Rage frontman Zack de la Rocha, little has been heard from him since the breakup, although he is said to be on good terms with his ex-bandmates.
I haven't really heard much of whether or not their tight with Zack nowadays but I remember reading, a few years back, where Timmy C talked about his disappointment over losing his closest friend and how he hadn't spoken to Zack since their breakup.

Here' a link to an interesting, if overly fawning, update on de la Rocha's whereabouts.

There's not enough evidence to support this theory other just wishful thinking. I'm leaving it in the rumor category for the time being.

If this means Chris Cornell will focus more on his solo career, then I couldn't be happier.

We've needed a band like Rage for a good 7 years now. But all their good anger was wasted on Clinton.

I'd rather have At The Drive-In reunite than Rage. Much, much better band.

This means KROQ (106.7) will play Rage non-stop from up until the show. I will be changing the station in response. I never cared for their stuff and found their politics to be BS.

Of course, KROQ tends to overplay certain songs and groups (Points to Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Thank goodness for 103.1

Listen to Fucked Up.

and I would love to see Rage again, I just don't have any desire to go to coachella

I would be sooo there.

But unfortunately it happens to be that I live on the other side of the world.
Now If they only continue to record a new album this world would be a better place.

If I hear that "heyo whats your name-o" shit one more fucking time I'm gonna punch the shit out of Kevin, Bean, and every other employee they have.

RATM on the other hand I'll be happy to hear more of. This is far better than a Police reunion.

ANYTHING is better than a Police reunion. The world doesn't need more Sting material.

Do you think they'll ever play RATM's cover of "Fuck the Police" because that would be highly appropiate.

No offense to the one or two Police fans on this board or anything.

This might be too obvious to even bring up and maybe it doesn't even amount to anything at all. But doesn't it seem as if all is not well in the Audioslave family?

Sequence of events from 2006 - 2007
*Audioslave released new album - "Revelations" in Sept. 2006
*Immediately following the release of "Revelations" - the band announces that there are no plans to tour behind the album (which I consider their best so far by the way).
*Chris Cornell records another solo album with some upcoming shows planned
*Rumors that RATM will reunite for upcoming Coachella Festival are confirmed

Just the lack of an Audioslave tour part alone has seemed strange to me ever since I read that news. Based on what we know about Zack and the rest of former-RATM, it appears that Coachella will be a one-off deal but why even bother for just one show? But somewhat strangely - I don't really care what all of the events that I've mentioned here will ultimately mean for either band. If Audioslave were to break up so that RATM could reform, I'd kind of miss Audioslave but the loss would probably be for the greater good. I like hearing solo Chris Cornell just as much anyway. And I still think that Zack's vocals complement the style of the other guys better than Chris's do.

Based on how everything else is going -maybe Chris will go uncover Kim Thayil under whatever rock he's been hiding. Doubtful but it does make me wonder yet again what Kim has been up to. There has been no defunct hard rock band since the end of Led Zeppelin that I miss more than Soundgarden.

As for The Police, I'm not sure what kind of chemistry is possible between those 3 guys anymore. But based on all of their classic albums, they're still one of the greatest pop-rock bands of all-time. Sting's solo stuff? Some of it is ok but I could do without most of it.

Audioslave toured for basically a year before Revelations. I wouldn't read too much into Cornell doing his own thing for awhile.

Didn't even care about Audioslave after the horrible Out of Exile. And I'm a huge Rage fan.

But then again, I wish the 90's would end already.

Maybe Tom, Timmy C. and Brad can seduce Zack back into a full blown reunion...Zack's obviously proven he's incapable of releasing music on his own.
I disagree and disagree again.

1) In my opinion, Revelations is their best album. If nothing else, it holds up to repeated listens better than the first two. So I don't think they lost anything after the first one. Out of Exile isn't great but it was pretty good.

2) I'll take the classics that the 90's gave us over most of what the new millenium has offered up so far.

Allmusic.com has a new Rage Against The Machine due out on August 28th, I believe it's called "The Lowdown"
It's just a biography/interview CD.

I've got tickets to the Alpine Valley show tonight but I'm getting worried it's going to be canceled due to rain.
