DEAD SILENCE from the "Saw" boys

James Wan and Leigh Whannell are returning with "Dead Silence", which seems to be about an evil spirit and her army of killer ventriloquist dolls.

Site with flash trailer here.

Looks kinda... eighties?

Here's the CC article from yesterday: http://www.creature-corner.com/?type=news&id=2099

B/T the Jigsaw puppet and this, the director has a hard-on for creepy Pinnochio's huh? Despite not being impressed by Saw, I'll definitely check this out for the concept and trailer alone.

An entry with Making Contact & Magic for a "creepy dummy" marathon?

"Puppet Master" & sequels
That's a marathon in of itself. I think Full Moon has got to have the record for quantity of evil toy/doll/puppet movies.

This looks far more to my taste than Saw, that's for certain.

Cool flick. I've really enjoyed it the few times I've watched it.

It doesn't, however, have the cool traps and quality Danny Glover (*kaff*kaff*) performance one gets with the SAW franchise.

Burgess Meredith makes up for all that, though.

Edit: Just realized you meant "Dead Silence"....duh....and yeah...trailer looks right and proper creepy. I wonder, though, if I can work it so that my two teen daughters can meet the "cut your tongue out" lady. That'd save on my cell phone bill big time.

I caught the restricted trailer on the official site, and it looks like it's gonna be a great flick. Not many killer ventriloquist dummy flicks out there, so it's an interesting change of pace for them.

Looks like a little "Tourist Trap", mixed a little "Puppet Master", and it has the dubious honor of featuring the bobble-head from "They".

I only cared enough to watch the first 'Saw', and despite my love for 'Tourist Trap' and killer puppets in general, I don't think I'm going to be able to get behind this one.

Probably. But the "Child's Play"/Chucky franchise is catching up.

I was very intrigued by the original trailer for Saw too, so I don't hold out much hope for this. The most I can say for these guys so far is that they make movies that cut down into really good trailers. When they can actually make a movie that works at feature length, they'll be getting somewhere.

Then again, Eli Roth and Rob Zombie both overcame premieres that I couldn't stand, so I'll be happy to be proven wrong.
