Buckethead

I have been a big fan of Buckethead for years, I swear, the guy is an alien from the planet Shred. I was watching a clip of him jamming at what looked like an outside barbeque, playing "Tubular Bells" and the "Theme from Halloween" when I though I'd throw out the question: Does anybody know who he really is? I once heard a crazy rumor that he was an alter-ego of Steve Vai, but that was debunked.

I must admit, I can't really just listen to his music, I gotta watch as he plays to get the full effect.

Does anybody know who he is for real?

I met Buckethead a few years back when I was working my second job at a Saturday Matinee (they're FYE now). He shyly asked me where the porn was. All we had were softcore Vivid titles. Later he bought a basketful of tapes.

He most certainly was not Steve Vai.

No idea, but I kind of wonder of Wes Borland stole Buckethead's idea or the reverse. Or perhaps they are the same man? *Ques Suspense music*

In any case, this and the guy who always leaves roses and Brandy at Poe's Grave. We have no idea.

But hell, we got the identity of Deep Throat, it's probably only a matter of time.

It was weird, he introduced himself as Buckethead but he wasn't wearing a mask. He did, however, have a bucket on his head. He came in with the guitarist for NIN who was touring at the time in Houston, although he wasn't opening for them or anything. One of the weirder experiences I had working there. We'd get all sorts of celebs coming in because the store was in the same mall as the high-brow hotel the Westin Oaks. Christina Aguilera came in and bought Madonna's new album (MUSIC) and said, I quote, "Let's walk the mall!" It was kinda awesome seeing that ego just go unfettered.

But yeah, it was Buckethead. He liked his porn.

I found this through Google. Could be him I guess:

I believe they were in G'n'R at the same time, so that might explain the connection.

That's probably it. Their version of Night Train for the Rock in Rio show kicks ass.

Buckethead was shredding long before Wes Borland started wearing make-up on stage. I remember reading my dad's "Guitar Player" magazines with Buckethead on the cover when I was 13 or 14, I've heard there's actually rumors that it's been a couple different guys through the years (ala the guy who leaves the brandy and roses on Poe's grave).
All of that aside, I was glad when he left G'nR', he's way too talented tolet Axl Rose boss him around. I'm sure it was a better paying gig for the guy, but I'm pretty happy that he left to go back to his avante garde shredding ways. I wish I had the time and ambition to practice 18 hours a day, then maybe I could be good enough to play in the same time zone as that guy.

He sounds a lot more personable and approachable judging by these recollections than I recall; he used to be such an enigmatic figure he didn't even talk; he spoke through his manager (this was around when he'd frequently do guest spots with Primus when they did live shows).

I was channel surfing a while ago and came upon the middle of a SoundStage special with Bill Laswell. I don't recall when it was recorded but among the guests was of course Buckethead. The funniest thing to me was after his guitar solo he did the robot dance and then a nunchaku routine. Gotta love it.

I remember an interview awhile ago where the interviewer was talking to Buckethead's manager (or so he was led to believe) and he deduced that it was probably Buckethead himself.

(I think I already posted this sometime, somewhere, but oh well....)
