Ludicrous gibs news now, with Midway announcing that Unreal Tournament 2007 will be arriving on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 (Gasp!) in the second half of 2007.
I have never played an Unreal Tournament game. Should I be excited that it's now coming to the 360? It's using the same engine as Gears of War, should I expect more GoW goodness?

It's not really anything like Gears at all. It's (at least UT-2k4) a balls out shooter. Like Quake 3, only much better. There are large guns and you run (or drive) around in first person, shooting the shit out of anyone that isn't you (or your teammates). I love 'em. There are some kickass modes, like assault maps where one team defends objectives, like gates and switches and the other team tries to open said gates and throw said switches. There are several of these objectives and it is fast and furious. And then, once the offense wins, or time runs out, it's the defense's turn. And then there's capture the flag and domination and the blitz ball thing...God, I need to reinstall 2K4.

"Fast and furious" needs emphasis. This game was too much for me, and I was a huge Quake Arena nut.
I've only played on the Xbox 1, but I'd recommend renting or buying one of those first to check it out(not the fighting hybrid one). Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the new one will be jaw-dropping to look at, but the gameplay is so fast and nuts that it tends to be a love/hate type of thing with most people I know.

Hmmm.....count me out.

if Onslaught is kept in the game and/or improved it should be an awesome experience. I'm hoping the move to 360 is painless because you cannot beat xbox live's matchmaking services or voice over ip abilities.

Deathmatching in Unreal is too annoying, but having objective based multiplay was one of the strengths in unreal 2k4.

Yeah, I'm going to be a FPS PC douche for a bit and say if you played it on the Xbox, you played it on the wrong damn system. Unreal Championship 2 was tailor made for the Xbox and it was cool, but Unreal Tournaments are faster than balls. Halo is a slog through molasses compared to Unreal. It's made for mice and keyboards, ground up. And while I will lower myself to play FPSes on consoles, the PC is where they thrive. Anyone playing on a console vs. PC, as I heard (or maybe I was dreaming) it was going to be for PS3, is going to lose. A lot.

Onslaught! For the life of me, I couldn't remember the name of it. Yeah, that was a blast.

Yeah I know I played it on the wrong system. I played most of my FPS up until Quake Arena on the PC. I know from watching those tournaments on that HD gaming channel(the name escapes me) that a mouse and keyboard is a must for that game.

The original is still the best. They dropped the ball with UT 2K3 (which was a port of Unreal Championship on the XBox, and felt like it), though.

2K4 was a step back towards the glory days, but didn't quite get there. Still, it was fun enough. I'd recommend trying the demo and seeing for yourself; if you think it's too "fast" the game speed can be turned down when playing offline.

You're on a PC, so you can download the Unreal Tournament 2004 demo. It's my favorite online game of all time.

As long as this new one has the same perfect combat balance, I think it'll be worth a PC upgrade. Onslaught mode with those graphics, holy shit.
