2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Season - Page 5

The race for the majority was boring. It was basically "follow the leader" all afternoon with the exception of the first 25 laps and the last 10. In the closing laps it took Gordon & Co. too long to break out into their own group. But holy shit was that an exciting finish. It was almost as good as Dale Earnhardt's charge to the front with five laps to go back in 2000. He came from 17th to first in four laps.

And Van Jones, here's the final eight laps to Sundays race: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Uwu2WyqE5pk

As you can see Johnson almost fucked up and let Blaney steal second. Damn, what a finish.

I didn't find the race boring at all. There was always something going on and I found it nice that not one person was leading for the entire race (especially at the beginning and end).

Stewart totally off'ed himself by ducking down to block (or draft?) Johnson there at the end. And how Kasey dropped from around 5th place to finish 19th (?) is beyond me.

I also love how the new spoiler has become the most deadly thing about the race. "Hey Kyle Busch, I can't see you flipping me off!"

And dammit Kyle Petty... when did you become as nice as Carl Edwards? Now I feel a little bad. Nah... I take that back.

Overall... a fun race. All of my "favorites" got what they deserved.

Dude, thank you. I was kicking the wall in anger. And yes, that was a pretty damn exciting finish. Shame for Montoya as well, ended up 14th after running up front all day. Jeez, Gordon's a real racer, though. He's got second behind his teammate, and he abandons it and crosses two lanes in the blink of an eye to jump in front of Stewart just in time. Then ducks back down to tow Johnson to second. You've got to respect that.

Patrick Carpentier has signed with Evernham Motorsports for next season. So that's what? Five open wheel guys in a year to sign on with NASCAR. Not so much a "hick" sport now is it? Columbian, Scottish, Canadian... it'll be really interesting to see how some of these guys cope next year. Man... 2008 is looking great already!

Yes.. YES... OH GOD YES!

Two in a fucking row!

As much as I have a dislike for Kyle Busch, I give him credit for not dumping Gordon when he sputtered on that restart. Newman blowing by them all pissed me off so much. I was furious. I was thinking, "Great, another race Gordon has given away this year." But then all of a sudden Newman slaps the wall. I give credit to Clint Bowyer as well since on that last green-white-checker restart he got into Gordon and could've moved him into the wall but he didn't.

Notable mentions: Dave Blaney backing up last week third place finish with a sixth place run. Michael Waltrip backed up last week's strong run with a tenth place finish. Bobby Labonte comes home 12th. Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart get some good runs despite contact on pit road hurting them earlier.

Another great finish this season. This Chase so far is the best one since it started. Too many things have happened and having, of all people, Clint Bowyer in contention with greats like Johnson and Gordon makes it all that much sweeter.

Interesting note... if the Chase for the Nextel Cup was never implemented Gordon would have won the Cup in 2004. Stewart & Johnson would have won in their respective years (2005 & 2006) anyways (they won the Chase those years). But this year Jeff Gordon would have clinched the Cup by now or within the next few races and would have taken home his seventh Cup championship, tying Earnhardt and Richard Petty for all time Cup championships. Just found that interesting.

I really wanted Newman to win, especially after making the move around the top. But, as my dad always says (he's a Newman fan), he always finds a way to lose it.

It took me all night to try to figure out what the hell was on Kahne's car since there wasn't a single moment spent talking about the guy. Glad to see him get a solid finish in.

Far out that was a great burnout. Gordon really wants the title this year. Interesting to see more and more 'incidents' happening in the pits as the pressure builds up. It's one of those problems with no easy solutions, though.

"That was a great race!" - Jerry Punch

No, it wasn't. How many cautions in the last 50 laps? Nine or so? More?! Christ. What a joke. And of course, who brings out the final caution? David Ragan! Why is he still allowed to drive a Cup car?

It was a good race ruined by a very shitty and very frustrating last 50 laps.

Check out the Kenseth/Edwards scuffle video. Good times!

Yeesh. Whatever it was, it must have been pretty bad to piss Carl off that much.

Perfect shot of what Junior's entire season has been like.

yay for Johnson, I guess. Now I'm really starting to not want Johnson to win this Cup title. 9 points back. Gordon's team better step up these next few races because they've been out run by Johnson the past few races.

And as much as I don't like Kyle Busch I felt pretty bad for him during that final pit stop. You were in contention to win and then one team member lets everyone down. Then Truex Jr. too.... wow. Has no clue what's happening to Hamlin and runs right into the back of him.

Definitely some crazy finishes in this years Chase races.

Mad finish to that one. Amazing how quickly a victory can slip away when you get a couple of late cautions. Gordon and his team managed to pull themselves out of the fire, too.
