Starman (1984)

I was surprised not to find a thread dedicted to this Carpenter film, which is probably just behind HALLOWEEN, right with THE THING, in my favorites of his films.

Anchored by an unbelievable performance by Jeff Bridges. I liked Karen Allen too. Spunky without being annoying. Great score by Jack Nitzsche. The government stuff was a bit heavy handed perhaps but it's always great to see Charles Martin Smith (so great in NEVER CRY WOLF). Beautiful ending.

A warm, engrossing film from start to finish. I'd like to see Carpenter try one of these genre-bending dramas again.

I noticed that the film is airing on TCM this Wednesday at 10:15. The DVD is available but it's nine years old. Anyone know how the transfer is? I'd love to see a spiff-i-fied edition.

I have a love for this film that spans forever. Although I wouldn't say it was Carpenter's best flick, it is my favorite. Yep, love it more than The Thing.

It's not great. The audio is 2-channel Dolby. You get some trailers. The case also proudly proclaims that you get "Scene Selections"! So, yeah, it could use a special ed version.

I heard that Carpenter was moved in as a director pretty late and he wasn't involved in quite a bit of the film.

It is decent. Nothing outstanding, but it works. I'm sure some asshole will remake it.

Did anybody notice Tom(M.C. Gainey), one of the Others from Lost, played a cop in the film?
