Pan's Labyrinth!

Okay, I haven't seen it yet (not out in NZ cinemas until April), but having stumbled across this, I may not be able to wait.

That site lists it as coming out mid-February, with Yesasia saying the 22nd or 23rd. Either way, gotta love those Koreans, they sure know their dvds. This looks exceptional.

Wait for it in the theatre. It's worth the experience. It's big and fantastic (in the fantasy sense).

I will, but c'mon, that looks so purty, I'd buy it just to look at!

Read the description:

Quote:
a story of a young girl who travels with her pregnant mother to live with her mother's new husband in a rural area up North in Spain, 1944, after Franco`s victory. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own.
I've read that exact description in my local paper and in blurbs from other papers. I like how they (they being the anonymous blurb writers) have decided that it is completely in her imagination, thus predisposing the audience that way. Why? And is there some AP hack who writes these blurbs and sends them out to all the papers, or are they sent by the movie distributors?

They like to ruin the spirit of hope and keep us oppressed.

I want to buy this, but I'm a bit hesitant. Does anyone know if the special features on these DVDs have English subs?

Almost never.

Yeah, that's the deal breaker for me.

Hard to say, I'm betting the extras will be in Spanish anyway, so it remains to be seen if there will be English AND Korean subs. But considering the film will have English subs, and the packaging is in English, and Korean dvds are becoming very popular, I really hope so.

Yeah, if you haven't seen it in theaters don't see on it DVD first. Though I thought that the special effects were small in comparison to the reality segments they were awe-inspiring. I'll buy a US version only. Asian DVD's usually offer only one good thing I always hope for in my DVD's and thats DTS but they skimp out on the good stuff and you never really know if your getting your stuff from a reliable source. Who can you complain to later on?

I don't know, Korean DVDs tend to have incredible Audio/Visual aspects and in some cases they outstrip the western release (Band of Brothers being a point in case). Hell I'd even buy a DVD from HK if I knew which company had made it because they're really starting to up their game.

I've never had any issues with Yesasia, their site is informative and tells you exactly what you're getting in terms of format. As for the quality of Asian dvds, shop around and visit sites like DVDBeaver, which often compares different dvds from all around the world.

I have the HK dvd of Hero, and it's fantastic, lots of extras (some subtitled), exceptional sound and picture quality, and no Quentin Tarantino in sight.

Korean and Japanese dvd companies are amongst the world's best in my opinion.
