So that is why almost all of the text is black?
Dude, your shit's all fucked up.
Fixed, have no clue how that could have possibly happened.
I'm surprised Aerosmith didn't jump on the Guitar Hero bandwagon earlier, actually. They had a basic rhythm game included on their Nine Lives album. If I remember correctly, there were only a few tracks you could play but each song had multiple parts. You just tapped any key in time with predetermined beats to "play" the song. There was some special, ridiculously overpriced guitar pick peripheral you could order instead, too.

I would get Phil Collins' Drum Hero if it featured "In the Air Tonight".
Great roundup. Nice job.

And christ, do I hate Aerosmith.
As a child I was in the Aerosmith fan club. Aero Force One.
Incidentally, "Phil Collins' Drum Hero" would be his second video game, after "Phil Collins' Divorce Hero"

I hope you didn't own Revolution X.
No, but I think I'm one of maybe 10 people to purchase "Done With Mirrors".
I put more money into Revolution X at the arcades than I am comfortable in admitting.

Maybe it's just because I'm sick of everything being a franchise but I would rather not see a direct sequel to BioShock. Yes, I loved the world and wanted to see more of the world but the story wrapped itself up nicely, there's no need to return and dilute the mythology. Use the engine and play mechanics all you want but put it in a new place with a new story.

I don't get what prompted this Molinaro guy to write that column. Has there been a general apathy to the news of this football guy's injury? There seems to be no lead-in relating game violence to this tragedy- other than a guy trying to make a name for himself ala Jack Thompson.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I have to admit that playing SPOILERas one of the little sisters all growed up in, like 1980 would be kind of neat, if only to see how the genetic tampering matures with them into adulthood. No need to even return to Rapture, as far as I'm concerned. There would be a risk of diluting, but the developers took such great pains in the details of this game, I doubt they would be careless in that regard.
While I'll agree that the WSVG coverage was terrible, I'd argue that a lot of the problems had to do with presentation. Now, that flaw doesn't just fall upon those covering the event, but the developers of competitive games in general. There were plenty of games on display that simply did not do a good job of clearly defining objectives, let alone clearly establishing who was who and what we should care about.

There is clearly an audience for this type of stuff, though, as entire sites are devoted to movies of particular games, let alone the desire of players of a particular game to see where they stand.

...is that a FREEJACK reference? Nice.

I feel dirty. On the one hand, I can't fucking wait for Halo 3. Jesus H. Christ, I don't know what it is.

On the complete other hand, I hate seeing my favorite past-time invaded by ignorant, frat boy fuckers.

And on yet a third hand, I take comfort in knowing that if the biggest problem in my life right now is this, well, then I guess I'm doing alright.

Quoted for truth. Enjoy it, brother.

Hysterical.

Good stuff. In regard to the LaRouche Political Action Committee crap, the complete ignorance of people never ceases to amaze me.
There was much maniacal laughter in the blue team last night. And that is what's great about playing with you guys. I don't really care that I suck and get blown to bits because how it happens is usually pretty funny.

This:

what the fuck is that, it’s only the biggest fucking game of the year and they have seventeen people sitting around who have absolutely no clue about their department anyway, so put someone on the goddamn phone
is awesome.

Like I needed another reason to think LaRouche is a whackjob.

Nick mentioned this in today's Leak Letter's, but I wanted to echo his statements about feedback. While writing about video games is a wonderful endeavor, reading your comments and e-mails, makes it the experience pure bliss. And don't think I get tired of hearing "good job". I'm a praise whore.

So to everyone that comments, thanks.
Well if you makes you feel better, you whore, I was just on the phone with Sam telling her what a funny motherfucker you were and reading parts of the article to her. I love these articles.

You're like Cassamassina. Only better.
You know I love it when you call me "whore". (I couldn't resist)
While this could also fit into "Shameless Self-Promotion", but whatever, I'm taking some liberties, in the most recent Cheapass Gamer Podcast (CAGcast #92), yours truly gets a nice shout out. It's at the very end and very nice of him to do that.
That's pretty awesome. I'll have to check that out. Remember the little people when you become the toast of the podcastosphere.

I think that's a new word.

Those BAFTA noms are fucked up. Crysis (seriously?) and Kane & Lynch (wtf) as GOTY? Are they on crack? Or horse-shit? Where's Assassin's Creed? If they're going to nominate games they've never fucking played...

JC, what're your in-depth thoughts on the shittery of the noms? Or do you really not care? I don't think I should care, but I feel like the awards process effects the way videogames are viewed amongst the general public. As though everyone expects cutsey little games and fucking Halo to win everything, and as such, they roll their eyes and carry on reading their Ayn Rand (heh) or listening to their cheesball pop.

Wow, that's a little too much bile.

Anyway, good to see the Orange Box listed. Half-Life and all its little children rock my world.

Y'know, I don't think the folks at 2k are going to do a sequel. I don't know what's been reported, but I know what I've been told, and that is that they want to do a spin-off. Not a direct sequel but not a total abandonment of the world/mechanics etc. But yes, a sequel would be wholly unnecessary. How's about a new System Shock? Anyone?

I cant believe it took so long for a Phantom Hourglass post on CHUD. This is like the second biggest game of the year behind Halo 3. Regardless, I'm glad you wrote something up and you like the game, because it is truly a blast to play.
Phantom Hourglass is the second most anticipated game behind Halo 3? Holy hyperbole.

"“Mission Accomplished” banner wrong." is beautiful.
I said second biggest game of the year.. not anticipated game of the year.

The reality is that there have been 50 million nintendo ds' sold in the world. Its the biggest selling console/handheld period. If Zelda's name is a gameseller, its an instant hit and will be one of the biggest games of the year. I"m not trying to hyperbolize.. just trying to do the math.
Oops, I misread your post. Sorry about that.
I wonder if Nintendo will actually market Hourglass so that it does sell as well as Halo. Actually, if it even sells near as well. Let's face it, it's not. Name recognition does not a million seller make. Second biggest game of the year is surely going to be Assassin's Creed? Are you taking into account those games not yet released? Or do you mean, second biggest, so far... We need to know!

These comments on Halo 3 do sound about right.
Granted, I've only played Halo 1, but based on how people are aying it compares, I'd be surprised if it was any less mediocre.

All the backstory that anyone knew going into HL2 on launch day was that Gordon had been involved in a disatrous experiment at a Los Alamos-type facility that resulted in a bunch of creatures being teleported in. At the end, Gordon seemingly stopped the creature behind the invasion and was put into stasis by the G-Man.

And the beauty of HL2 is how it pulls you out of stasis several years later and drops you right into a situation that doesn't initially feel congruent with the end of the previous game, and you gradually piece a lot of it together over the course of the game. And I love how all the characters basically just assume you know what's going on, not knowing you've been in stasis, and thus don't give big speeches catching us up on recent events.

edit: by the way, now that I've finished the new stuff, I'm running through HL2 again, and I'm thinking I might be reaching double digit play-throughs for this game.

What kind of voodoo did you use to get your wife to sit and watch you play video games for hours?
Know what game works well for that, too? Indigo Prophecy. It's like watching a movie. Probably the most cinematic and interesting game for someone not playing to watch.
I would bet Deus Ex would work as well.
Totally agree about the Halo 3 campaign. I was playing the other day, in chapter 5 or 6 I think, and it suddenly occured to me that I was just completely fucking bored by the whole thing.
My girlfriend actually enjoys watching me play God of War. And I enjoy telling her what she's doing wrong in Viva Pinata.

Completely agree. If I don't finish this by Saturday, it's never going to happen. I refuse to abandon yet another Halo campaign!
