The Official Sewer Chewer Newsletter Thread

Thread Starter
Well the Sewer Chewer newsletter is back in action. The first one goes out Thursday and if you haven't read my long-winded intro, I basically see the newsletter as being an extension of the boards.

I don't want just links to stories. I want to add in some reviews by you guys, Hellos to grandma, words of wisdom (or "wisdom"), rants...anything!

I mean the newsletter IS named after all of you, so why shouldn't it include you? I might also pick out some choice quotes of the week from the boards too.

So please post some stuff in this thread and I'll be sure to add it in each week.

And if you haven't subscribed to it yet, go here.

Issue 1 sent. You should now all have it in your inboxes.

Let me know what you think and if there were any formatting errors I should know about.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Wow. I knew I missed something. My deepest apologies. I was in such a rush today, not just the newsletter but everything. I can assure you the Special Edition will be top priority next week. I also forgot to list the Creature Corner headlines!

Fucking awesome job.
I like the newsletter, but I like having it be an addition to reading CHUD, not just a recap. I liked adding quotes from the boards, that was a nice touch that could be expanded. Maybe something more along those lines, maybe a recap of some of the better discussions happening on the boards, with links.

Great job overall, and maybe I'm just missing the point. But it would be cool to have a little more content for those that already read CHUD every day.

Thanks, Ian!!!

Stew, I totally agree. This first one was just sort of a test, just to see what needed to be done to produce the thing. From now on it will have much more original content.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Keep it coming.

I really like it and I'm glad it's back. Good luck on this.

I just realized because of the newsletter going out again that Jason Thompson has been MIA since the end of January. He had been working on building the Sewer Chewer for like a year to get it started and then it just fizzled. Where did he go?

Thanks!

I'm not sure. That'd be a question for Nick, not me.

Issue 2 will enter your inboxes shortly.

I added some new features and instead of listing the DVD reviews alphabetically I decided to go from highest to lowest score. Let me know what you think!

Enjoy it!

I just got back around these parts. Life has been kicking me around lately and unfortunately I let things slip with the newsletter and site, which I apologize to everyone for. I'm just now finding time to get back into the habit of checking the site/boards but I had to let Nick know that I couldn't run the Sewer anymore. Hopefully I will find time soon to once again contribute to the site in some fashion.

As for the newsletter, I like the new look as well as the addition of the images, quotes, ect. Good luck with keeping up with everything.

Like the ranking for the DVDs. Actually, I like the whole aesthetic of the thing. Great job. The "In Theaters" section is a great addition.
Excellent job. Really like the new additions and all the different little elements. Glad to see this back in the in-box.
I'm digging the message board discussion recaps. Helps tie it to the Chewer community more.
Are you intending to archive the Newsletters on the site?
I don't know when it was written, but the newsletter failed to mention that the Shia LeBouf thread ain't so anymore. It's now the official "Short Round Battleground". Pick your side, spit some venom, and let the raping of childhoods begin.

Hope all is well now.

Thanks guys! I'm going to continue tinkering around with it, adding new features and whatnot. I see it possibly becoming a guide for Chewers, like what to buy on DVD, what to see in theaters this week, etc. And I'm glad you like the recaps. I'm going to try to have more of them as time goes by.

Yes. I intended to start the archive this week, but I just didn't have enough time. Hopefully it'll be up by next issue.

haha yes I know. I was going to include it, but in the end I decided to leave that out because it just didn't flow well. I guess I should refrain from writing history books, with my apparent rampant revisionism.
I just wanted to chime in and say the newsletter is awesome and congrats to RabidCow for doing a stand up job.

Jason, I hope everything is working out for you and thanks for getting the newsletter going again.

Try checking your spam filter and add chewer@sewerchewer.com to your address book. If you don't receive the next issue (goes out this Friday) then let me know and I'll look into what's wrong. Thanks for telling me.

The new issue has gone out. My net connection crapped out so it's missing a lot of features that I've been trying to cultivate (message board quotes and the In Theaters section) but I think it's still pretty decent. You should be receiving it soon if you haven't already. Let me know what you think!

Issue 5 is moving through the tubes. You should get it now or in the next few minutes, since it takes about 20 to send it to everyone.
These are good. They're sexy-looking e-mails. Great job.
very nice, it's actually worth reading (which is saying something).

one formatting problem: starting with "This Hollow World" all the text was strike-through (horizontal line through the text). i use thunderbird (latest version) email client. if you want more details email me at joe@joe.to or send a PM.

Issue 6 is sending right now! Keep anxiously checking your e-mails!! It will change your life.
It did! It did!

I've told you it before, but I have to say it again. I am loving these newsletters.... each one's getting better and better. I'm not just saying that cause you're linking to my articles either, they're really damn good.

Keep it up man!
I know it's a lot of work to compile these, but right now, there's not much here that someone who reads the site and the boards on a daily basis hasn't seen before they get this. There needs to be more newsletter-exclusive content.
Thread Starter
I agree. I've been looking into what could be added to make it more worthwhile, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any ideas?
Well, on the one hand, it might be nice to see some counterpoints to the main articles. Say for example Devin says "I hate Movie X." It'd be neat to see one of the other writers chime in with "I like Movie X because...." On the other hand, they're already churning out enough stuff for the main site that they may not have time for something like that -- in that case, maybe open up something like it to the Chewers (something a little more well-formed and thought-out than a post in the discussion thread).
I agree with Richard. If you're doing the newsletter, don't be afriad to throw a little of yourself into it. I am really digging the format, especially the links to MB discussions, which does a lot towards making this feel like a partof the CHUD community. But even just saying "I disagree with Devin/Micah/Nick on Movie X" would spice it up a bit. Or maybe do one little feature that the main site doesn't cover, maybe obscure trailers that got released, something to that effect.

Overall though, this is probably the coolest inarnation of the newsletter yet. Keep up the good work, but feel free to experiment a little.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll try to work those, or something similar, in over the next few weeks. In the latest edition of the Chewer (going out right now!) I announced something along the lines of what Dickson said. I'm looking for anyone interested in participating in a for-and-against type of thing you see in some newspapers. I or you guys or whoever picks a CHUD-relevant topic and one Chewer argues for it and another against.

Let me know what you think and if you're interested!

If you need an piece about Short Round, you know where to find me.

I'm always looking to be contrary.

Another good letter. I didn't see that The Lookout was reviewed, so I'll have to check that out.

How about a quote of the week?
Great job, guys. I, for one, am thankful for it. When I can't be here, this gives me a heads up on some of what I'm missing.

All right, there's not really much time to coordinate a Chewer vs. Chewer type of debate this week, but I would like to feature a well thought out opinion piece by one of you. Whether it's the aforementioned Short Round piece or anything film-related, please send it my way (by PM), preferably by Thursday night, but Friday morning is good too.

I'm thinking of calling this feature "Chew On This." Feel free to tell me to what degree of lameness that is.

I eagerly await Ripoll's editorial on Short Round.

Not a problem.

But the shittiest thing happened yesterday. I started the "send process" and left my computer and didn't come back until late last night and I noticed somehow it got paused halfway through! So some of you received the newsletter on time in the afternoon, and the other half of you received it late last night. My apologies. I have no idea how that happened.
You may want to do some checking, because I haven't received it at all yet.
Very nice guys. Dickson, nice editorial, a nice counterbalance to the typical doomsday prenunciations regarding "Grindhouse" being flop. And Joe, I'm digging the countdown to "The Happening". You'll likely be the only one in the online film community to cover it like that, which is cool.
