I'm seeing fan clubs across the nation. Maybe a 501st-style organization, depending on the full plot of the film. We'll see. More shortly.

Awesome newsletter! I really liked the Chew on This section and the whole look and content of the chewer. Thanks for putting it all together! Though, I may suggest adding some sort of graphic to split the sections up.

Still nothing yet. I tried resubscribing and it says I'm on the list. Maybe my mail server is just being funky....

Why thank you. And that is a good idea, melyssag.

You may be pleased to know episode 10 is SENT! Enjoy the special interview! No really, enjoy it.

Mailing List is the best it has ever been.
Good God this must take you a long time. All those damn links. I freaking love it. It's scanable to see if anything recent was missed. Quite a few main page articles would have been lost forever to me if I didn't get this. Thank you.

Aww thanks guys! That really does mean a lot to me. And I'm expecting it to get even better in a few weeks; finals are coming up, meaning no more school to tie me down!!

On that note, issue 12 is going out now!

Spiderman - Newsletter feedback

I saw the screening and have to admit that I was disappointed.

I was glad so to the story of the man behind that mask, but at times it became...boring. To me, the story was about the bad guys spiderman met along the road to figuring out the value of all the relationships in his life.

However, the special effects were OUTSTANDING! And, the Sandman was incredible.

No Late to the Party link this week?
So, uh... should I NOT read the newsletter anymore if you're not going to give a little spoiler warning?

28 Weeks Later opens today right? Sorry if I didn't catch a preview showing, but that is fucking ridiculous.

Edited to add: The Zombie Terror article contains spoilers for 28 Weeks Later.

Dudes, you're right. My bad. I honestly don't know how I missed the latest Party. And I will try to have a spoiler warning whenever necessary from now on.

Although Devin should probably be faulted as well because his review gives it away even more so.

No thanks to my lovely little PC (fuck you!) I finally got this week's newsletter out!!

I hope you guys enjoy it! And keep sending me Chew On This submissions. I've got some more on the way, but you can never have enough goodness.
Hey man, the newsletter's goin' good but I must say you gotta bring back the top board quotes of the week. I especially liked how you started out, with your favorite Chewer quotes in their remarks on the most discussed stories of the week.
Thread Starter
I agree. But it's always been a matter of time. As you can see by my post count I've never really interacted with the boards, but now that summer's here (well, one more week for me) I'll have tons more time to put into the Chewer. So there will be many quotes from the boards and this thing will just be packed with content. I may even be able to work in some trivia or something.

Thanks for the feedback! It helps a lot when you guys tell me what's what.

I'm just dropping by to give my general thoughts on the newsletter. I know you're planning on including more reader driven articles, which I think is a great idea. Frankly, as it currently stands, I'm not a huge fan of the format. I think anyone who has taken the time to subscribe to the newsletter probably visits CHUD daily, so all the links and snippets from news stories and reviews seem like a waste of time. Since I've already read everything included in the newsletter by the time it pops up in my inbox it's kind of a disappointment.

Anyway, more original content and less rehashing of the website = greatness.

Number 21 is being sent right now. Let me know if you like the increase in fresh content and especially if you want to be a part of it.
You know what? I usually read the newsletter, if I'm in a hurry I might skim through it quickly. But I've sort of been spoilt by CHUD, you guys put out great stuff on a daily basis. This week's newsletter was really great work, and I'm liking the new content a lot. Thank you.

And if you pull a late to the party w.r.t. Bergman, I'll recommend starting with the Seventh Seal. There are other films of his that might touch me deeper, but that is the most recognisable one.

I have to say, though very well written I completely disagree with the TV rant. It sounded like a death knell for broadcast television, which is just ridiculous when there are still tons of great shows on the networks. People have proven that they're more than willing to pay for shows through iTunes and DVDs, so why switch things up? The only way a great show like, say, Friday Night Lights will stay on the air is if they make loads of cash off DVD sales, so I'd gladly buy ten of them if I could.

That being said, people really should stop bitching about Lost.

Thanks for the feedback! You have no idea how much I appreciate it. I sometimes get scared no one's actually reading this stuff.

Here's my response, which you can also find in the latest issue, which is going out now:

Quote:
Apparently my piece on the Fall TV season sounded too much like "a death knell for broadcast television" and I agree I may have come across a bit harsh. I can't argue that there aren't "still tons of great shows on the networks," but I can argue that ratings are still rather stagnant. And even though "people have proven that they're more than willing to pay for shows through iTunes and DVDs," something more needs to be done to spread these shows like wildfire. I'm not asking to "switch things up" in the sense of getting rid of DVDs, but I do mean thinking outside the box.

Since shows are already available free to download illegally, why not tap into this market and provide shows free with advertising? As I said before, the best road to success would be to make it as open and accessible as possible. Allow anyone to embed these shows on their own sites (exactly like YouTube), getting a cut of the ad rates in the process (much like how Google does their ad business) which in turn encourages more and more people to spread the show and spread the word.

I admit I may have gone overboard asking for every episode to be available, but having a few would be nice. It would allow people to be easily introduced to a show without losing their money and would inspire them to go out and purchase whole seasons on DVD. Because of ads the networks would still be getting a cut. It's basically transferring the broadcast plus TiVo model over to the Internet. Not much of a difference. And it can only increase revenue.

But I do seriously stand by the TV-industry-committing-suicide statement. Just check out Variety or any other publication that covers Hollywood and you'll hear the same thing: people aren't watching TV like they used to. Their depression is even starting to rub off on me

Once

Excellent newsletter!

I just had to agree with you on "Once". If "Falling Slowly" had not have won the best song Oscar, I think I would have lost all respect for the Academy!
Excellent movie and absolutely excellent music. I can't wait to get the soundtrack.
