This is the sort of property where I expect the script to be nigh-impossible to fuck up.

Really? If this isn't in the right hands I could see this easily turning into a bad sci-fi channel film.

The book was a very effective chiller, but more for it's atmosphere than anything else.

Well, I also expect elves to come fix the worn soles of my shoes at night, too.

I thought the biggest contributions to the atmosphere in the book were the characters reactions to the environment, rather than the environment itself. Kinda like how you have nightmares about things that are perfectly normal.

It's a good book, but haveing a music veido director doesn't usually bode well. This is something I would have liked to see Sam Raimi do post Spider-Man.
