fantasy site question

which site is best and why?

I used to use Yahoo! for my fantasy stuff, but I heard that CBS Sportsline is offering free fantasy baseball where you get live scoring for free, too. thoughts on sites? Chud-approved? Chud-unapproved?

I did their (CBS's) football in 2005 and it was terrible. The site didn't work 25% of the time, and the free agent pickup/drop was really strange. Maybe they've upgraded it since then, but I haven't tried it again since. I also remember it was very hard to figure out how to offer a trade.

I've been happy w/ Yahoo for football. I dropped ESPN after 10 years when they went free, because the changes were just annoying.

I remember really liking Smallworld way back when, but being a cap league without a draft, I doubt it'll entice most.

I used Yahoo for baseball for 2 seasons. It's pretty good. They want you to pay for real-time updates but I never cared enough to do that.

I love the CBS sportsline site. I dislike Yahoo (although I'll admit I haven't used it in years). Martianman is right in that the CBS site was down a lot last year. I've used them for years and last year was the worst. They sent us emails explaining that they dropped the ball when moving to a new system and they gave us a big, fat credit to come back next year. I have faith they'll do better.

Yahoo baseball is customizable, easy to work with, and has tons of sorting/monitoring options.

The ESPN fantasy stuff is GODAWFUL. I can't stress this enough, do not use ESPN for fantasy leagues.

Isn't that sad? It was better when it wasn't free. I'd been using them since I got into Fantasy Football way back around '96 with a friend of mine. We were in a 3-year keeper league and in the third year was when they made it free (which we didn't get any credit back for), and my friend and I both concurred--it sucked.

I've used:
Yahoo
ESPN
CBS Sportsline
Fanball

If you are looking for a good, basic, free system... Yahoo is fine.

If you want more customizability (and willing to pay a little), I REALLY liked Fanball for football. I've never used it for anything else, though. We were able to do everything we wanted and more. They even responded quickly to feedback, took suggestions for following years, and implemented the best ideas in the off-season. I think it has grown now, so it may not be quite as personal, but I think it definitely benefited from being a smaller operation in the beginning.

I liked CBS sportsline for baseball... but it has been a bit buggy and inconsistant. Everything eventually gets worked out, but it can be annoying if you are very active.

I didn't like ESPN very much, but I've had the least experience with it of the 4sites I've mentioned... so I'm no expert.

I literally cannot believe how bad of a fantasy sports product ESPN puts out on the market. The fact that EVERY SINGLE COMMAND results in an ESPN pop-up comes to mind as a "feature" I could do without. I foolishly signed up for a five year keeper league, and every year someone is unable to draft their players because they did not complete the log-in process, even though ESPN routinely lets you open the drafting applet and says that you are logged in even though you are not. Every single draft begins us with us frantically trying to reach the player via telephone or email to let them know why they're showing up in the draft queue but are unable to draft (hopefully, now that it is year four, this particular problem is behind us).

I could go on for five or six pages as to why ESPN baseball sucks.

I've used cbs.sportline.com for years. The only real issue I've had with them over the years is when we do a live draft. Last year the servers crashed, but they gave us a discount for this season.

For free, you can't beat Yahoo. Used them for years as well, for baseball and hockey. Don't know shit about hockey, but I'm invited every year to a friend's league. Won it once...that went over well.

For free, use Yahoo. It sucks as far as player news and updates, but it has worked well for Chud fantasy football four years running.

For money, I have used Sportsline for close to 10 years now for all my money leagues and love it. The players news and updates are great. The customizing for your league play is perfect and you can make it do anything you want. There was some technical bugs last season and Sportsline gave us half off next years league as an apology.

ESPN sucks balls. Never use them. Ever.

One more thing - if you want to play with strangers in football or baseball, Sporting News is the best for the bucks.

You can get 5 baseball teams (5 different leagues) right now for $90. First place in each league gets $100 and second gets $25.

I did three football teams for $60 last year and made it to the semi-finals in two of them. Came pretty close. All you have to do is win one league to geet your money back. The rest is gravy. And that is three leagues to play with for a great price.

Sure, you can win a little more in Sportsline for their $29.95 league ($150 prize money), but if you like to play as much as me, three leagues for $30 more is a better deal and a better chance to win one of them.

I'm running a 50.00 buy-in, 25 man roster, yahoo fantasy league (5SP, 4RP, 3Bench, All infielders plus a CI and MI, All OF plus two utility OF, and one UTIL).

If you're interested, PM me. A few slots are left. Draft is March 4th, 8:45 a.m., PST.
