Britain pulling out of Iraq

CNN has it listed as Breaking News: UK Prime Minister Tony Blair will announce on Wednesday a new timetable for withdrawing British troops from Iraq, with 1,500 to return home in several weeks, the British Broadcasting Corp. reports.

Did Blair finally grow a backbone or is he trying to save face?

Either way, this is bad, bad news for Bush.

Between this, the continuing farce that is the Libby trial, and the non-binding resolution that Congress convened on a SATURDAY to vote for which lost the newscycle to the latest chapter of BritneyORama, Bush must be having a shitty week.

This is all just a ploy to make sure Prince Harry doesn't have to go to Iraq.

People around Blair are getting arrested for corruption (if I remember correctly) and he knows he's done this year so he's hoping to shore up some bit of his "legacy". The Iraq war has never been popular in the UK so its kind of amazing him being able to make himself "Bush's poodle" so early on and still hold his position.

Britain pulls out of Iraq: Iraq not pregnant.

I'm starting to wonder if they had Anna Nicole Smith assassinated to distract the TV news people.

I'm not entirely joking, either.

Well, she is the perfect target--a media magnet that humanity wouldn't actually be worse off not having around.

Man I totally wanted to use that Pregnancy bit. Darn you, Darn you to heck!

I was just watching the U.S. vs John Lennon yesterday and it was funny how the Presidency then mirrors the one now. Nixon was taking beef for Vietnam and the whole country was in protest yet he won his second term. When he pulled out of Vietnam he replaced that war with one in Cambodia before ultimatly quiting on the Presidency because of corruption. Bush is doing the whole Iraq thing. Number one its not even a question of winning anything, we are just trying to convert Iraq to a democracy which will never happen, and eventually we'll have to admit that and withdraw. The whole country is in protest and still the guy gets a second term. Now when we pull out of Iraq we'll be attacking Iran. All that needs to happen is he must quit and then Cheney will give him a pass. Could happen.

No! Now the "surge" will be negated! Damn you, Blair! Now Bush's plan to add more troops won't make a difference!

I think so too. The Queen is probably putting the full court press on Blair so that the Future King of England doesn't get splattered all over Baghdad.

Harry is like third in line for the throne.

You know, I'd consider this big news but I guess who gets Anna Nicole Smith's kid is more important then world destruction.

Anyways, why is this pull out being hailed as a success when an American pull out would be deemed "cutting and running"?
Cause us real Americans always knew that we didn't really need those snooty Brit pansies anyhow.

Harry's still going out there.
