Crackdown on 360

So I noticed a lot of my CHUD friends are playing Crackdown these days. I'm interested, but I haven't picked it up yet, although I liked the demo.

So what's the verdict? How does it stack up against Saints Row?

Honestly, I haven't played Saint's Row, so I can't do a comparison. I've spent some time with GTA, though.

Crackdown really is lacking some larger storyline and different mission objectives. Killing bad guys and bad guys with more armor (bosses) does get a little repetitious. While I was never a fan of the hooker escort stuff of GTA, Crackdown could use something like "stop the baddie convoy" or "steal this vehicle out of a fortified location".

That said, Crackdown is a helluva lot of fun if you get creative with it. There are so many ways you can go about taking down a boss that are fun. To quote B Metal from the Crackdown thread:

"While it's light on missions, it does leave you with so much you can do if you put your imagination to it. Raiding one of the Muerto hideouts I decided to try something cool. So the place has a guarded gate and a ton of baddies at said gate. My resolution? I put all 8 of the sticky 'nades on my car and drive it towards the gate. I dive out just before I hit it and as it goes through the gate I set off the charges killing like 15 baddies in the process, making it much easier to get through the front door."

Some of the rooftop races (another way to increase your agility levels) have you bouncing around through gang central. So not only are you trying to hit crazy jumps from building to building, but you've also got guys slinging bullets and rockets at you. The game also has some of the best Acheivements to unlock.

Me, I'm having a blast with it. I can see hanging on to this one for a while as it's got that great "screw around for a half hour" when you just don't have a lot of time for an (admittedly) more-involved game.

This game is extremely frustrating for the following reason: There's just not enough to do. And there COULD have been.

I love the graphics/art design. I somewhat like blowing up stuff and killing gang members. And I LOVE to collect me some agility orbs (462 out of 500 collected...something like that). But the game can be beaten in 8-10 hours and after that there's not much left.

I've hopped on top of trucks that have been speeding down the freeway and just shot out car tires, and I've thought to myself: There could've been an awesome car chase scene in this game. There could have been interesting boss battles that required ingenuity and different tactics (see: God of War, although that's a COMPLETELY different type of game...however, since Crackdown is weighted so heavily on boss battles, it deserves mentioning because Crackdown's boss battles suck). There could have been a better, more integrated story to help you care about the characters. (As it is, characters like your agent are literally interchangeable).

Crackdown gives you a great city, and a lot of "could have beens" but not much else. It's still fun, but you shouldn't spend $60 on this game. Rent it for a weekend, beat it, and move on with your life.

Oh yeah, and it comes with Halo 3 beta...that might be worth it, depending on how bad you want it.

yea so i hate to be "that" guy, but there is another crackdown thread...which at the time of this posting is right underneath this new one.

Okay. On top of one of the buildings was a swimming pool, and floating in it was a rubber duck. I managed to be able to pick it up, and I threw it at bad guys, actually killing a couple.

Why the hell wasn't this an Achievement? It would have been the best Achievement ever.
