Alf's revelation/question was worth the 25 awful and 3 decent quests preceding it.

I had an amazing time, 100 times better than I could have imagined.

I'm surprised at all the horror stuff going down. Now I'm sorry I missed it.

Yeah, it was way more horror-oriented this year. Everything about it beat last year's- they really fixed the place up. Didn't take you 15 minutes to walk through the swarm of people like it did last time. The guests were a billion times better, also.

I hope this thing keeps building up, it's a great time.

It looks like it will. There's a lot of online post-show press for it this year.

Didn't indulge in too much of the horror stuff this year (I just stopped by the After Dark FIlms table - a piss poor representation, mind you - and grabbed some stuff & entered the raffle for a t-shirt). But I did have a good time, and plan on going again next year. The 2 drawbacks, as I see them are:

1. The hour long wait to get in. We got there at 11:30, and the place opened at 10 AM. And Al does not exaggerate when he says the line really was 7 blocks long. Although the line moved pretty good, I do not see why it took 1 hour to get us inside. I overheard someone say later in the day that there wasn't a wait at 1 PM, so maybe we'll just arrive in the afternoon next year; and

2. There seem to be fewer and fewer actual comic book vendors each year, and more and more cross marketing stuff.I don't have a problem w/ RPG publishers, film companies or anyone else being there, mind you, but I go mainly to buy books, and the more actual comics being sold, the better, IMO. That is the reason this con is there in the 1st place, right?

But again, overall a positive experience, even if there was no way in hell I was getting a ticket to the SK panel discussion by the time we got in.

So that's what the notorious Alex R looks like!

I helped set up a "Comic Con" at a school library one time. Alex, I can definitely relate to ya. So many bad questions...

Hah! I'm wondering if I walked right by Iggy. Iggy- you see a guy with a shaved head and a big goat' smoking cigarettes near the line? I was there looking for friends for a while and laughing at the overweight jedi battles.

Detonathor- I feel for you. You know, even the horror cons I've been at haven't been as bad as the comic ones. Something about the fanboys that can't be beat...

Quick video I whipped up...

Just ignore the bad quality and my giggling...

Part 2. No excuses for the lateness of this thing, so I'm giving away some schwag to make up for it... check the article.

I'd love to go to one of these things. I know a lot of it may seem lame and there will always be way more uber-geeks then I am comfortable with, but still - to relish a day with fellow geeks sounds fun. Obviously you get out of it what you put in, but I'd probably take it like Alex. Just hang back, make fun of the ubers, and visit the things that seem cool to me.

Good job on the article.

Thanks man. If I were to really rip on the geeks I could probably get another whole article out of it. Like the fat, sweaty, ADD-riddled guy who started freaking out when he didn't know where the autographing session for Hostel Part 2 was and started screaming at the security who were trying to help him. Or the fat Annakins that were walking around (maybe half a dozen of them.) Or the pimple-faced kids gazing at a female cosplayer's boobs and wishing that they could one day touch them.

But those things are always a blast. A lot of the stuff is the same ol' same ol' every year, and seeing celebs gets boring after a few times but just to see it all in person is pretty damn fun. Lot of nice, cool people there too.

Great shot of us (Alex and I) from behind. Also confirms to my wife that I was there and not at some strip-club that smells like comic books and NJ Transit.
