Jon's review: http://chud.com/mastercontrol/9009

My two cents: I played it on the 360, with three friends through the whole campaign. It was glorious fun.

I tried this for the Wii, couldn't make my way through it. Then again, I'm not a fan of X-Men Legends either...

Playing with friends does sound like it could be a lot of fun, but does everyone have to be on the same screen or does it split up toejam and earl style? (or did you play online?)

The Wii version could probably cause massive injuries if you played it with 3 friends, cause those stupid moves never work right.

I played through both X-Men Legends games (PS2) and this one (Wii) with my wife.

Not the best games I've ever played, but they were fun. Especially since it is hard to find good two player co-op games nowadays.

I don't get all the issues people had with the Wii controls. Even the guy at the store warned me about them. We had almost no problems. I pulled off the moves with well over 90% accuracy... and if I messed up, I almost immediately knew what I did wrong.

When I talked to some other people that were having problems, it seemed like they were performing a "pre-move" that was being picked up before the actual move. For instance, if you were doing a lift-up move, alot of people actually lower their hand in preperation for the lift-up... but the Wii registers the lowering. I noticed some of my friends having the same issue with Wii Sports Tennis (having the "pre-forehand" backswing register as a backhand and cause an early backhand that misses the ball). Once I realized this is what usually causes the problems, I had no issues performing the moves with the motion sensing.

I'm not sure how much of the review was Wii-specific, and which would have carried over to other versions, but here's my two cents:

1)This seems like a game whose control scheme would be butchered by the Wii. It relies on button combinations and precision, which doesn't seem to be the Wiimote's strong suit.

2)Challenge: the main quest is not that challenging, at all, but many of the comic missions (Which make up about 25-40% of the game) are really tough....particularly if you're trying to progress with a character whom you haven't "levelled" while playing the main quest. I died about twenty times on Dr. Strange's comic mission before I gave up on my dream of obtaining the Silver surfer without using cheat codes. Also, if you want the Main Quest to be hard, try choosing underpowered charaters. If someone manages to beat the game with Elektra, Blade, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Woman, they deserve a special ending.

3)It's a brawling, aracade-y style beat them up with some light, light RPG elements. The dialogue, gameplay, and settings all reflect that.

When I first saw that there were character specific missions, I got excited. But the fact that they use the same enemies and that shitty metal environment from the rest of the game loses major points. It'd be a lot better if they had changed it up from the rest of the game.

I recall it rotating between various overworlds (although there are only eight or nine overworld templates....so there's quite a bit of overlap given the 80 or so comic book missions).

Getting back to difficulty, I wonder if they didn't ratchet it down for the Wii. As I understand it, the Wii is barely capable of animating a fishtank screensaver while powering the wiimote middleware. This leaves precious little horsepower for AI, etc. Also, the developers may know the controls suck, and adjust the difficulty accordingly.

**Another really tough mission: spider-man. The boss is fairly easy, even with his minions, but having to protect your moronic sidekick is pretty tough. I gave up on that one, too.

***It sounds as though Jon believes that the Wii version of MUA is the equivalent of all Final Fantasy sequels: i.e., that the Wii version is a mere shadow of the original's splendiferous, radiant glory. That's if I'm interpreting his opinion correctly (which I am).

Jesus, let it go.

I've played through the game on both the XBOX and then the 360 (so my son could play as Moon Knight - darn kids) and had a blast with both. Playing with friends or family (we had four people play the game almost all the way through) was a great gaming experience.

Also, played almost the entire game on XBOX Live on the 360 - still rocked.

I will say some of the level designs are repetitive, the game is deep and can be played for hours upon hours.

The problem is that most games on multiplayer, if you collect the right people, can be fun for hours and hours. My friends and I could enjoy just about any multiplayer game, just because of the company.

Also, the game is as deep as a $15 plastic kiddie pool.

Got the PC version a couple of weeks back; it really seems like the controls were optimized for a dual-analog gamepad setup.

A worthy point. Although some of our fun was facilitated by yelling at each other during the trivia segments.

Loved that Deadpool was an unlockable in Legends 2, but the unlockables here were really boring. Daredevil and Black Panther? Wholly and completely meh.

OK, so what's the trick to hitting the strength testers in Murderworld? I've been wailing on the fucking thing at every angle for 15 minutes now and the gate won't open. Screw this, I should go to bed anyway.us

You need to grab the giant hammer/mallet that is sitting somewhere in that level. Just wield it, then go hit the strength tester. It takes one hit.
Right, I had the mallet. I eventually figured out that I needed to hold A to build up a super hit or something- a move I've never used or even knew was possible. It would have been nice if the damage meter on the strength tester fluctuated enough to acknowledge that you did hit it, just not hard enough.

I missed whatever was behind door 3 in the funhouse because I went through door 2 first, I hope there wasn't anything cool back there. I'm not going back.

Ohh yeah, that's right. The punch button (B on the XBOX) can be held down to provide a more powerful, regular punch.

The only thing I think you missed behind door three was the ability to play another fun little video game (Arknoid I think - or maybe that's door one). You didn't miss anything big, just more silly stuff. Murder World was one of my favorite levels (except for the constant doppelgangers of your characters making hard to tell who is who)

Or maybe that's where Blade is (I think he comes earlier actually). I am struggling to remember.

Don't forget Silver Surfer. Plus, the fact that you have to earn Ghost Rider, Blade, Dr. Strange, (and a couple more who I can't remember) is pretty cool.

Side Question: Are you able to save both Nightcrawler and Jean Grey? I've only played the level twice and haven't been able to figure out how to save both.
I don't remember Arkanoid (scandalous!). Is it like Breakout? That's what I had to play behind door one to unlock door two. I did manage to snag Blade in the crane game but I don't know if I'll use him. I'm running with the New Avengers and really like them, except for Spidey dying all the time.
I must admit that I only have any interest in this game if it lets me play as Death's Head (the original, not the subsequent incarnations).
I may be digging for excuses based on how dull I found X-Men legends compared to, say, Freedom Force, or Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
I'm spending a lot more time with this game and the shine has really worn off. I think the problem is that when it's fun it's just "hey, this is kind of fun" and when it's difficult or annoying it's "FUCK, I'm going to throw my remote through the TV and use the nunchuk cord to strangle a developer!". The Loki fight in particular is ridiculous.

I hope more developers use the "tilt the 'chuk to rotate the camera" idea, though.
Well, the final boss fight is an exercise in frustration because of camera and design issues but the ending was worth it. I think this is the first game I've played where they actually show you an outcome of a sidequest beyond an in-game text box or receiving some special item. The audio that plays over the credits was really entertaining also. "Nucular."
