He hasn't done a good film in a decade? So Adaptation, Matchstick Men, and The Lord of War don't exist?

I like Matchstick Men an awful lot and there's a couple of ok ones in there (EDIT: see post above that was typed simultaneously), but you're right mostly.

Wait...Why are they remaking this? What could they possibly bring to the the table that the first remake didn't? I'll say it again like I did in the Halloween thread, at least I'll still have the original remake. And fuck Nicolas Cage.
Oh come on! He was awesome in Adaptation! And Leaving Las Vegas. Lord of War. Granted, those movies are surrounded by utter crap (like Snake Eyes - I loathed Snake Eyes), but he still has had some great roles after Face/Off.

You might wish to take a closer look at the article, this is an opera version of The Fly directed by Cronenberg with music by Howard Shore.

I have no idea if Cage is capable of doing this, but I like him as an actor so I'm interested.

I said GOOD movies.

Alright, I'll give you Adaptation. Forgot about that one. But the man is all kinds of wrong to handle a dramatic part like this. Overacting bastard...

Nope- read it again. This is another remake. Cronenberg's doing a Opera version (opening in Paris and LA next year) and has nothing to do with the remake, but he hears what's going on with it.

I won't give you Adaptation. Cinematic navel gazing at it's worst. Matchstick Men was decent but it was in spite of Cage not because of it.

Well, shit on me, my apologies to Izzim. Just this morning I was thinking that no one was really going to try and remake the film anytime soon and I guess I was wrong. Doesn't matter, if they want to just go, if you'll excuse the pun, bugfuck crazy with the concept and not even consider rivaling the Cronenberg version then another trip down the same road may be worth *something*.
Besides, the concept originates from George Langelaan's novella, so you can simply call it another adaptation versus a straightfoward remake of either the '58 original or Cronenberg's film.

Have you read that novella? I'm interested in how close the other two were to it. I'd agree that a new look at this film would be the only way to go with it, but I really have the suspicion that we'll be seeing Cronenberg-lite here.

I still like WINDTALKERS.

I'm quite ashamed of this, but the first time I read it was as a feature on the Special Edition DVD release of Cronenberg's version. It's not brilliant, but it's a fine, breezy read and the 1958 film is definitely closer to the original text.

As much as I love Cronenberg's film and don't feel a second remake has any reason to be made, I'm going to have to be the voice of dissent and say that watching Cage in full quirk mode slowly transforming into a fly may very well be just as entertaining as watching Goldblum's performance.

Cage's last few films may be the equivalent of celluloid excrement but fusing him with fly DNA sounds like the recipe for something legendary. The film may very well be awful and ultimately unnecessary but the idea of "Cagefly" definitely piques my interest. It should at least be good for a few laughs.

Leaving Las Vegas is excellent, as is Adaptation.

This will not be.

So...waitaminute...are they remaking the original novella, the '58 film or Cronenberg's opus?...or a new and entirely different tangent?

...and screw Cagefly...give me Walkenfly!

But YOU!!...... only know society's STRAIGHT line about the flesh? You can't PENETRATE...PENETRATE beyond society's sick...grave......fear OF THE ...flesh. Drink deep...DEEEEP or taste not, the PLASMA ...........................spring."

Lord of War. More like Lord of Shit. Adaptation? More like Shitation. Wait, I like Adaptation. Well Snake Eyes was more like CRAP Eyes! They need to do a Face OFF special edition cus that movie is the bombdizzle for shizzle dizzle, know what I say my nizzle? For rizzle. And for the record, Ghost Rider was one of the most boring action films I have ever seen. Everything you hear about how the action scenes are harder to sit through than the other scenes is fucking true. I got up to get a refil on my cherry icee when he was motor biking up the building. I saw the trailer so I already know that the crappy actress from Hitch is standing with a bunch of pigs looking in disbelief. Johnny? IS IT JOHNNY? HOLY COW! IT IS! I think Nic Cage should do a live action version of Captain N the Gamemaster, which you can now purchase the show on DVD. Is Jeff Goldblum too busy to do this? Why are they even doing this? Con Air, more like Con Shit.

*Golf Clap*

Funny thing is, if there were more spaces in between words. You would've sworn Shatner was playing Brundle.

Hmmm?

Lord of War was flawed, but pretty good, regardless.

Oddly enough, if I knew this remake was gonna be handled by somebody with some actual gods-honest interesting ideas for the concept, I think Nic Cage could handle it.
Basically, I think Cage just wants to work, and it's not like there's a stockpile of great scripts out there. Making movies is a lot more fun than sitting on your couch.

I actually just re-read this about 8 months ago. Jackknife is correct that the 1958 version is pretty faithful to the source material ( Save some unfortunate atom mixing with the family cat that occurred). An update of the original might be interesting, but an update of Cronenberg's is completely unnecessary.

I'm more annoyed about a remake of a remake more than the casting of such.

Nicholas Cage is capable of being a good actor; he just seems to have lot it over the last 10 years. I mean, the man won an oscar once.

No problem man. The funny thing is, I went and re-read the article and thought I was missing something. I read it like 5 times and then just gave up. Thought I was going crazy.

Cage doing Insect Politics sounds strangely interesting. I'll give this remake of a remake a chance, but it will in no way reach the quality of Cronenberg's film.
